FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions What is your cancellation policy?

Programs, activities, special events and festivals that are canceled, postponed or changed in location will be announced as soon as possible. Please check Facebook, Twitter or www.Waukee.org for updates. We reserve the right to cancel a program or an activity that does not meet the minimum number of participants necessary to offer the program.

What is your program refund policy?

Refund requests must be made prior to the first day of the program or prior to rosters being made for leagues. A $5 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of the program. Once the first day of class begins or rosters are formed, refunds will not be issued.

What is your facility rental refund policy?

Facility rental refunds may be issued for reservations only when cancellations are made 10 business days prior to the date of reservation. There will be a $5 cancellation fee for any shelter or pavilion refund. Community Center cancellations later than 10 business days prior will result in forfeiture of both deposit and rental payments.

What is your photo/video policy?

Photos/videos taken of participants and guests in programs, activities, special events and festivals may be used in promotional materials, press releases, and on the City of Waukee’s website and social media channels.

Easter Coloring Contest Help the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department spread some Easter cheer around Waukee’s Downtown Triangle Businesses by participating in the annual Easter Coloring Contest! To participate, please email mstotz@ Waukee.org or visit www.Waukee. org/festivals. The contest will start February 16 and the last day to submit finished coloring pages to our office is March 18. A winner will be announced at the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26, and will receive an egg’cellent Easter basket filled with goodies.

Live Healthy Iowa 5K Run/Walk Join along with Live Healthy Iowa for a 5K Run/Walk and a 1K Fun Run on Saturday, April 9 starting and ending in Centennial Park.

The 5K will serve as an end to Live Healthy Iowa’s 10 Week Wellness Challenge. Adult challenge participants will receive a $10 discount on registration. To register, visit www.livehealthyiowa.org. Kids Day at the Dallas County Fair Join the Waukee and Dallas County Parks & Recreation Departments as we host a kids day in conjunction with 4-H Clover Kids and the Dallas County Fair. Festivals Celebrate Waukee: Unlock Yours Celebrate Waukee is back for its second year! This annual, familyfriendly event will kick off with a Friday night Movie in the Park brought to you by the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department.

Saturday morning the festivities will begin in the Historic Downtown Triangle District with a pancake breakfast, 5K fun run, along with other activities for everyone to enjoy. Around midday, a parade will take the fun to Centennial Park where attendees will find a wide range of activities for all ages – including inflatables, food, drinks, live music, fireworks and much more. BACooN Sizzles Waukee The City of Waukee will once again play a special part in the BACooN Ride with Centennial Park as home base for the 2016 ride. An exciting party the night before the event will kick off the weekend full of bacon and bikes.

All bacon lovers are invited and those who attend the party on Friday night will enjoy Kansas City’s top-rated 80s band, The M80s, along with mouthwatering bacon delicacies from a host of vendors, and a beer garden with a variety of local and national brews. 4th of July Celebration Waukee will host an all-American celebration in honor of Independence Day! Activities start at 3 p.m. with the annual parade through downtown ending at Centennial Park, where the fun continues for the rest of the day and night with inflatables, music and plenty of food!

Ball Field Rentals & Reservations Ball Field Rental Ball fields in Centennial and Warrior Parks are available to rent beginning June 20. Please contact Parks & Recreation Supervisor Josh VandeKamp at jvandekamp@Waukee.org for more information about fees, etc.

Ball Field Practice Time Teams who would like to reserve a ball field for practice will utilize a call-in system starting in mid-March. The call-in dates and times are detailed in the graph below. Teams are allowed one hour of practice time per week (M-F).

Weekends are available on a first come, first served basis, outside of Parks & Recreation Leagues. Teams may reserve Centennial Park fields #1-3 and Warrior Park fields #4-7.

Reservations are only accepted by PHONE at 515-978-0007.

Teams must complete a Ball Field Reservation Form at www.Waukee.org/parksandrec and return it to the Parks & Recreation office at 805 University Avenue prior to calling in to reserve a ball field.

Youth Sports Mini Sluggers T-Ball Mini Sluggers T-Ball is open to boys and girls ages 4 and 5. The program will run five weeks with a Tuesday night league starting June 7 and a Thursday night league starting June 9. Mini Sluggers gives kids the opportunity to participate in a summer T-Ball league while teaching them the basic fundamentals of the game through practices and games. Foam bats and balls must be used in this league and will be provided for each team. Participants will be split up on teams and scheduled into a five-game season. Children must be 4 years old by July 7, 2016. Each participant will receive a team t-shirt.

Youth Sports Youth Soccer Clinic Join us for this three-session fundamental clinic for kids ages 4 – 5.

Children will learn the fundamentals of soccer including: basic rules, dribbling, passing and throw-ins. Participants will also learn how to play an actual game of soccer. Shin guards and cleats can be worn, but are not necessary for this clinic. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch! Participants will receive a t-shirt. This is a great introduction to our Little Kickers Soccer Program.

Little Kickers Soccer This is an introductory soccer league for kids ages 4 – 5 (must be 4 years old by 9/29/16). The program is designed to teach kids the basics of soccer while having fun. Game play will be 4 vs.

4 with four quarters of eight minutes continuous clock with no goalie. Teams will consist of seven or eight players with plenty of playing time for each player.

2016 Fall Girls Recreational Softball League Waukee Parks & Recreation offers a fall recreational girls softball league, and girls in 2nd through 8th grades for the 2016-2017 school year are eligible to play. The league will be a shortened six-game season that runs September 12 – October 3 (games played on Monday and Thursday nights). Practices will begin at the end of August. Teams will be formed at random. Space is limited. Registration opens June 1.

Adult Sports Results Boot Camp Achieve your fitness goals by joining Results Boot Camp! Results Boot Camp focuses on working participants at their respective levels while making sure they get results. Participants will perform circuit training, high intensity interval training and endurance training. Attendees will be given workouts for off-days, along with nutrition coaching. NASM-certified private trainer AJ Hanson will be the instructor. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Men’s Softball Leagues – Wednesday Nights Adult Men’s Softball Leagues fill up fast, so sign your team up today! The Wednesday night league is played on Field #1 at Centennial Park and space is limited to 8 teams. The Spring Season will begin on April 13 with a 7-game schedule. The Summer Season is scheduled to begin on June 1 and should be completed by August 24, with a 10-game schedule and single elimination seasonending tournament included.

Bags League – Wednesday Nights Bags League is played on Wednesday evenings at Centennial Park. The league has space for 16 two-person teams. Coed Sand Volleyball Leagues League play takes place at the sand volleyball courts in Centennial Park on Thursday nights starting at 6 p.m. or Sunday nights at 5 p.m. This is a “call your own” league, so no referee will be provided. Youth Camps & Activities Tot Lot Romp, stomp and play! We have the set-up to meet your children’s activity and social needs this spring. With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action here. We provide the fun. Parents provide the supervision in this open gym for toddlers where kids love to play and parents get to socialize with one another. This is a non-structured activity.

Tot Lot will be canceled when Waukee Schools are delayed or canceled due to inclement weather. It will be open the week of Spring Break.

All-Star Sports Camp This half-day camp is perfect for any sports enthusiast. Each day, participants will be engaged in activities including soccer, flag football, disc golf, kickball, capture the flag, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, Lacrosse, yoga and other classic physical education activities.

Summer Fun Camp Join us for an action packed week of summer fun. Participants in this camp will enjoy three days of field trips to an aquatic center, an indoor activity center and much more! Youth Camps & Activities Racing Challenge with Radio Controlled Cars Performing as engineers, participants will work together to design a logo and modify a race vehicle for superior performance.

Teams will use diagnostic techniques and equipment to tune a 1:10 scale radio controlled race car to perfection. After racing their cars and assessing results, teams will use math and physics to calibrate suspension, adjust tires and alter other factors to improve performance and aerodynamics.

Fall Foliage Cruise We’re hopping on board with InboundIowa for a three day Fall Foliage trip to Eastern Iowa. Intermediate Junior Golf Camps The Intermediate Junior Golf Program is geared towards students who have some golf experience or have attended our camps before. The 12 hours of instruction covers golf rules, etiquette and course management, along with six basic golf skills—putting, chipping, pitching, fairway irons, woods and sand play. Instructors will coordinate the lessons to include fun contests and golf skills competitions. The week concludes with our popular Iowa PGA Skills competition. Waukee’s Community Center, formerly the Waukee Fire Station, is available for rent. Inside the 2,800 square-foot building is a refrigerator, sink, microwave, oven, warming drawer and coffee maker. Those tables will seat 48, and there is additional seating on the patio. The Pavilion features two charcoal grills. Winter reservations are welcome as the Pavilion is heated for winter months.

The Pavilion is ideal for graduation parties or small celebrations. This is an all-day rental from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Reservations are confirmed when completed form and deposit are returned to the Parks & Recreation Department. Southbranch Drive Southfork Park is a three-acre neighborhood park with amenities including a playground, the Gordon Christianson open shelter, picnic tables, a grill and benches. In 2015 a “Little Free Library” was installed for neighbors to share and borrow their favorite books.

Songbird Park

Behind 1070 1st Pl., East of Southview Drive Songbird Park has been recognized as a “Backyard Wildlife Habitat” and certified as such by The National Wildlife Federation.

This three-acre habitat is certified because of the conscientious planning, landscaping and sustainable gardening where wildlife may find quality habitat, food, water, shelter and places to raise their young.

Ridge Pointe Park

655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard Ridge Pointe Park is a 21-acre park that serves as a flat open field for soccer practice and open play. It features two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, a walking path, a backstop, the Pavilion (available to rent year-round) and a “Little Free Library� where you can share your books with others in the neighborhood.

605 SE Driftwood Lane Grant Park is a one-and-a-half-acre neighborhood park that was remodeled during the summer of 2015. The remodeled park includes walking paths, new playground equipment and a halfcourt basketball area.

public art installation at the City’s trailhead. The project site has been strategically selected as the largest public gateway to the Trail, providing access to both the western and northern routes of the 89-mile system.

The project is integrated with the Waukee and greater Des Moines regional trail systems, offering additional unique recreational and cultural opportunities to serve this rapidly growing urban area.

Fundraising for this Art Project continues with a groundbreaking construction goal during the summer of 2016.
