Registration is now open for all activities. Payment is required at the time of registration. Please choose one of the options below to register today.

• Online Visit www.waukee.org/parksandrec to pay with a credit or debit card. Credit and debit card payments are only accepted Online. Scan the QR Code with your smartphone to register now!

• Mail Printable registration forms can be found at www.waukee.org and mailed to Waukee Parks and Recreation at: 805 University Avenue, Waukee, Iowa 50263.

• Drop-off Printable registration forms can be found at www.waukee.org and dropped in our drop box in the lobby of the Public Works building at 805 University Avenue.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

When do I register?

Most classes fill up fast, so don’t wait too long. For most programs, registration will stay open until one week prior to the start date, unless the program is already full.

What is your cancellation policy?

Programs, activities, special events, and festivals that are canceled, postponed, or changed in location will be announced as soon as possible. Please check our Facebook, Twitter and website at www.waukee.org for updates.

What is your photo policy?

Photos taken of participants and guests in programs, activities, special events and festivals may be used in promotional materials, press releases and on the City of Waukee’s website and social media.

Do you send program reminders?

Please mark your calendar after signing up for a program. The City of Waukee Parks and Recreation Department does not send program confirmations or reminders to individual participants.

What is your refund policy?

Refund requests must be made prior to the first day of the start of the program. A $5 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of class. Once the first day of class begins, refunds are not issued unless the class or program is canceled by the City of Waukee Parks and Recreation Department. Refunds will be issued by check if original payment was made by check or cash. If payment was made Online with a credit card, then credit will be put back on to the card. Please allow two to four weeks for refunds to be processed.

Special Events and Festivals Haunted House 2014

The Waukee Park Board will sponsor a Haunted House at the Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter house on both Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25. Enter if you dare, but be prepared to be scared. This Haunted House is not suggested for young children.

WinterFest 2014

Santa Claus is coming to Waukee! Come visit Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas and warm up with hot cocoa, hot cider and cookies. There will also be an ice sculptor, carriage rides, music and more. Please bring a nonperishable food item or toy to help support the local Waukee Area Food Bank.

FamilyFest 2015 Paint-a-Pumpkin or Create-a-Carving

Help your child create a spooky Jack-o’-lantern without the mess in your kitchen. We’ll provide all the supplies to make their pumpkin the most spooktacular on your block before the trickor-treaters arrive. After their creation is complete, we will take a picture and enter it into our Pumpkin Contest. Spine-chilling snacks and devilish drinks will be provided. (Adult supervision is required with each child under 6 years old.)

“Plant Some Shade” Tree Program

Waukee is proud to partner with MidAmerican Energy and the Iowa DNR to offer the “Plant Some Shade” program. The program allows MidAmerican Energy Company customers in Iowa to purchase up to two trees for just $30 each, with the remaining cost funded through a grant from MidAmerican Energy. Waukee is now one of only 11 communities in Iowa who are providing this service and any MidAmerican Energy customer can participate. Order your trees by visiting www.waukee.org/plantsomeshade starting September 5.

Youth and Adult Sports Parent and Child Blastball

Not quite sure if your child is ready for T-ball? This is a chance for your child to learn the game of baseball and softball with the comfort of you as their partner.

Each participant will do the drills with a parent and parents will participate in most activities.

This is an introductory clinic to teach young participants the basic skills and rules of basketball along with practicing sportsmanship. Each week participants will be introduced to new skills and drills leading up to playing games at the end.

2015 Girls Recreational Softball League

Waukee Parks and Recreation offers a recreational girls softball league and girls from Kindergarten through 8th Grade are eligible to play. We separate participants into five separate leagues. The season will run from the middle of April through the first week of June. Online registration begins December 1, 2014, and ends February 17, 2015. Register your daughter for the grade they are currently in for the 2014-2015 school year. Please call the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department with any questions about the upcoming season.

Adult Coed Indoor Volleyball League

Waukee Parks and Recreation will be offering one indoor coed volleyball season Sunday afternoons at Waukee Middle School.

There will be a B-league (more competitive) and a C-league (less competitive). Regular league play runs for 10 weeks with a season-ending tournament. Bring your children and take advantage of the on-site babysitting service for $1 per child.

This early childhood program teaches the basic fundamentals of Taekwondo and Karate in a developmentally appropriate format to suit young children. The class will focus on building proper use of martial arts, self-respect, self-discipline and coordination of mind and body. The instructor, Dickey Renshi, has been teaching martial arts for more than 25 years and is an early childhood elementary school teacher. He is also a threetime inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Class length is 30 minutes and sessions are ongoing throughout the year.

Bricks 4 Kidz® Building Series

At Bricks 4 Kidz® after school and evening classes, students build models and simple motorized machines in a wide variety of themes using LEGO® basic and technic bricks. With our signature kits and model plans, a different model is built in each hour-long class and a variety of themes are offered throughout the year. Educational benefits include problem solving, early engineering and architectural concepts. Bricks 4 Kidz® believes that kids learn best when engaging in activities that they enjoy.

Dates Thursday Evenings Fall Session October 2-23 “Laws of Motion” Who says physics is boring? Test out Sir Isaac Newton’s Laws of Motion with models that help illustrate concepts like force and acceleration. During this unit, kids will launch LEGO® bricks with the catapult model, give their mini-figures a ride on motorized see-saw and swing-o-rama rides, and even build a push or mechanized lawn mower model.

Winter November 13–December 11 “Factory Fun” Session 1 Have you ever wanted to operate the big machines in a factory? Come build kid-sized versions of these clever creations. Models include a scissor lift, various conveyor belts and even a robot! You’ll learn engineering challenges involved in machine design and perhaps be inspired to design your own.

Winter February 5–26 “Forces of Nature” Session 2 Fasten your seat belts; we’re in for some wild weather! This unit is all about the amazing and powerful forces of nature experienced around the world. Each model represents the motion of that particular weather event, with a seat for a mini-figure to take in the action.

Youth Camps and Activities Tot Lot

Romp, stomp and play! We have the setup to meet your children’s activity and social needs this fall and winter. With toddler toys ranging from blocks to tunnels and mats, there’s no shortage of action here. We provide the fun, parents provide the supervision in this open gym for toddlers where kids love to play and parents get to socialize with one another. This is a nonstructured activity. Tot Lot will be canceled when Waukee Schools are delayed or canceled due to inclement weather.

Parent/Child Tumbling This 30-minute, developmental play-program is a very basic beginning program for little ones designed to get them exploring large motor movements in a group environment emphasizing balance and coordination through basic tumbling moves, exercises and songs. Children will also practice listening and turn-taking. A parent or guardian must accompany their child during each session. The child must be of the required age prior to the start of the session.

This 30-minute program is designed for little gymnasts to learn and increase their basic tumbling motions. They will improve upon their tumbling skills and movements, coordination, strength, and balance by learning somersaults, front flips, back flips and more. Students will receive a B4K balloon and a temporary tattoo.

Youth and Family Trips Seven Oaks Boone Ski Trip

Students can spend a full day skiing at Seven Oaks in Boone, Iowa. We will enjoy lots of skiing and a mini lesson.

Participants must dress warmly. Kids are welcome to bring spending money for lunch and snacks, or bring their own sack lunch and snacks.

Travelers are welcome to bring food and beverages on the bus.

Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

We will be joining Ankeny’s Parks and Recreation Department on a trip to Minneapolis on Sunday, October 12 to watch the Vikings take on the Detroit Lions. Come cheer on your favorite team! The game will be held at the University of Minnesota Stadium (outdoors) while the new Vikings Stadium is being built. Game time is noon; the charter bus will depart early Sunday morning. There will be one stop for restrooms and food each way and travelers are welcome to bring food and beverages on the bus. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Fee includes transportation, parking and ticket to the game. Registration will open once tickets are released.

Senior Activities and Day Trips Senior Social and BINGO

Come join the Plus 50 Club for our monthly social meals catered by the Waukee Fareway. The social is held at the Waukee Community Center at 675 Walnut Street at noon on the first Friday of each month. The cost to attend is $4 (includes meal and Plus 50 Club donation). BINGO will follow the potluck at approximately 1:00 p.m. Come for a good meal and stay for a great social hour.

Join us October 11 for the 45th Annual Madison County Covered Bridge Festival! The Madison County Covered Bridge Festival is a time-honored tradition and celebration of history and heritage. See talented artisans present unique examples of their crafts, such as basket weaving, wood carving, spinning, and weaving, as well as painting, sketching and jewelry making. Enjoy sensational talent from area dancers, singers and performers. Take a tour of the world-famous, historic covered bridges, and enjoy a stunning display of handmade quilts. The Covered Bridge Festival also features a wide variety of food, live music, stage performances, a parade, a car show, a spelling bee and much more. Guided bus tours of the bridges are also available for an addition fee.

Sugar Creek Golf Course The City of Waukee Parks and Recreation Department maintains Sugar Creek Golf Course, a beautiful 9-hole, Par 34 golf course that is open mid-April through mid-October. Facility Rentals City of Waukee Rentals

Waukee Community Center.............................675 Walnut Street Waukee’s new Community Center, formerly the Waukee Fire Station, is available for rent. Inside the 2,800 square-foot building is a refrigerator, sink, microwave, oven and warming drawer. The building has 12 round tables and 90 chairs; making it an ideal location for family reunions, small wedding receptions and business meetings.

Rental fees: Half-Day Option One: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. $80 fee/$150 deposit Half-Day Option Two: 5 p.m.–10 p.m. $80 fee/$150 deposit Full-Day Option: 8 a.m.–10 p.m. $180 fee/$150 deposit Meeting Option: $25/hour *Additional set up time may be requested for a fee of $25/hour. *Audio/visual equipment can be rented for an additional $50.

Ridge Pointe Park Pavilion......655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard The Ridge Pointe Pavilion sits on a 21-acre park with a covered concrete patio overlooking the park. Inside the 660 squarefoot pavilion is a refrigerator, sink, and microwave along with restrooms that are shared with park users. The Pavilion has six round tables and two rectangle tables, two charcoal grills, and is heated, making it available during the winter as well. The pavilion is ideal for graduation parties or small celebrations.

Rental fee: $65 fee/$150 deposit Centennial Park Enclosed Shelter..............1255 S. Warrior Lane The enclosed shelter is located on the southwest corner of Centennial Park with a playground and restrooms nearby. The shelter has a small deck overlooking the park and a charcoal grilling area. Inside the shelter are 12 picnic tables. The shelter does not have heating or air-conditioning and is available to rent April 1–October 13.

Rental fee: $40 fee/no deposit Centennial Park Open-Air Shelter..............1255 S. Warrior Lane The open-air shelter is in the heart of Centennial Park and is surrounded by an open grass area, a disc golf course, ball fields, playgrounds and restrooms. The shelter has 11 picnic tables and two charcoal grills. This shelter is available to rent April 1–October 31.

Rental fee: $25 fee/no deposit

Windfield Park Open-Air Shelter..............114 Windfield Parkway The open-air shelter sits in the middle of the Windfield neighborhood on five acres of open grass areas with a ball field, backstop and two playgrounds nearby. There are 10 picnic tables and two charcoal grills at the shelter. This shelter is available to rent April 1–October 31.

Rental fee: $25/no deposit

City of Waukee Facility Rental Policies

Waukee Community Center Reservations can be made one year in advance of the reservation date. Reservations are confirmed when completed form and deposit are returned to the Parks and Recreation Department. Payment for the center needs to be received at least one week prior to the reserved date. A Parks and Recreation staff member will unlock the center at your reserved time.

Ridge Pointe Pavilion, Centennial Enclosed and Open Shelters and Windfield Shelter Weekend shelter rentals can be reserved six months in advance of the reservation date. Weekday shelter rentals can also be reserved in advance; however, weekday reservations are not accepted until after March 1 for the months of March– July and after August 1 for the months of August–February.

Reservations are confirmed when completed form, payment and deposit are returned to the Parks and Recreation Department. Keys, if applicable, can be picked up the week of the reservation.

Centennial Park..........................................1255 S. Warrior Lane Centennial Park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities. The 33-acre park is equipped with two sand volleyball courts, three ball diamonds, a 12-hole disc golf course, three playgrounds, one basketball court, a creek, a covered bridge, one open shelter and one enclosed shelter.

There is plenty of open green space for playing soccer or enjoying a picnic with your family. Centennial Park has it all!

Warrior Park.........................................................1050 4th Street Warrior Park is a seven-acre park with four ball diamonds, one playground, and a specially engineered sledding hill for winter activities.

Songbird Park........Behind 1070 1st Pl.,East of Southview Drive Songbird Park has been recognized as a “Backyard Wildlife Habitat” and certified as such by The National Wildlife Federation. This three-acre habitat is certified because of the conscientious planning, landscaping and sustainable gardening where wildlife may find quality habitat, food, water, shelter and places to raise their young.

Windfield Park..........................................114 Windfield Parkway Windfield Park is a five-acre neighborhood park in the Windfield development featuring an open shelter, picnic tables, two playgrounds, a backstop and an open field for recreation.

G.E. Davis Park................Intersection of Walnut and 7th Streets G.E. Davis Park sits in front of the Waukee Community Center and honors George Edward Davis. Davis served as the mayor of the City of Waukee for 30 years.

Ridge Pointe Park....................655 SE Legacy Pointe Boulevard Ridge Pointe Park is a 21-acre park that serves as a flat open field for soccer practice and open play. Southfork Park................................................Southbranch Drive Southfork Park is a three-acre neighborhood park with amenities including a playground, the Gordon Christianson open shelter, picnic tables, a grill and benches.

Historic Downtown Triangle Park.......Ashworth Drive and 6th St. Triangle Park is a half-acre park nestled in the heart of downtown Waukee featuring a large gazebo and serves as host to many community events throughout the year.
