Welcome to Wattle Grove and the Triple Treat Sale.
It has been a year of change for Wattle Grove a major part of which has been moving our base of operations from Oberon, NSW to the Garoo area 30 minutes south of Tamworth. It is an exciting change that provides us with scope and proximity and the benefits of a warmer climate. It has also reignited our passion for the commercial sustainability of the Speckle Park breed. There is no doubt there have been challenges in the past 12-24 months, as there have been for any non-black breed. Many an hour has been passed discussing the absurd notion that a cattle industry whose primary commodity is beef is focused more on coat colour than the quality of the cattle and the beef they produce.
One thing that hasn’t changed in our operation is our absolute commitment to breeding and selling the best cattle we can. The Wattle Grove Accreditation program is utilised daily to assess our breeding herd whether in the yards or in the paddock. This completely objective assessment provides you, the buyer, with peace of mind and surety that what you see is what you get. There are no algorithms, no selective data just honest, objective assessments based on industry standards. We encourage you to grab a copy of our Wattle Grove Accredited booklet and read more about our program.
The bulls and females we are offering this year have been rigorously selected. They are functional, fertile and jam packed with performance pedigrees. The genetic packages offer buyers an exceptional opportunity to purchase the best of the best from the Wattle Grove and Codiak Acres herd. Many of these combinations will not be available again so now is the time to invest in the future of your herd.
This year we welcome selected clients to join us as guest vendors selling commercial progeny of their Wattle Grove bulls. They offer cattle that have been selected for their performance and functionality and we welcome commercial buyers to inspect and purchase these high quality commercial cattle.
The sale will be conducted by TopX Roma. Lincoln McKinlay is assisting and provides a contact for buyers wanting independent assessment of the cattle.
Speckle Park provide performance, doability, hybrid vigour and exceptional carcass attributes. Wattle Grove provide longevity, integrity, honesty, hospitality, incomparable after sale service and GREAT CATTLE, GREAT PEOPLE, GOOD TIMES

Putting on a sale is a mammoth task and even after all the years we have been doing them they don’t get any easier. Thank you to our amazing family and WG team. We have been blessed with children with an active interest in the cattle industry and Wattle Grove. We do not take that for granted. They each contribute in their own way and bring with them skills, enthusiasm and humour. Thank you to Hugo and Liv who now manage “Tarwarri” full time and are an integral part of the Wattle Grove team. Thank you to our sale day helpers, we love and appreciate your commitment to our vision. Thank you to Steve and Kel for your skill, knowledge and hard work for the many years we have worked together. And thank you to you the supporters, buyers and underbidders. We look forward to assisting you on sale day and beyond.
HERD HEALTH
All bulls have had Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluations including semen testing for motility and morphology. All purebred females have had internal palpation to ensure reproductive health. Vet checks were completed by Rosewood Veterinary Service. Certificates are available by request. All purebred cattle have been blooded and vaccinated for 3-day, Vibriosis(bulls only) and Pestivirus and have been treated with Cydectin drench and 7in1.
FERTILITY GUARANTEE

RAW DATA
Ultrasound scanning will be completed on all purebred sale animals with results available on sale day.
ESTIMATED BREEDING VALUES (EBVS)
Breedplan EBVs are available on each registered animal through the SPI website. Each lot has a unique QR code that can be scanned and will take you to their listing in the SPI herdbook.
WHEN YOU GET YOUR CATTLE HOME
Speckle Park cattle have a very strong herd instinct. For some of these animals it will be the first time they have been separated from their mates and that can cause stress and unusual behaviour.
We recommend having appropriate cattle in the yards to welcome your purchased cattle home. We also recommend learning about our temperament scoring system to ensure you purchase an animal suited to your program. Details can be found on page 6.

INTRODUCTION:
WATTLE GROVE ACCREDITED
The Wattle Grove Speckle Park Accredited program is a proprietary grading system that focuses on phenotype, temperament, and saleability.
Developed over the many years of breeding and selling Speckle Park and underpinned by industry accepted standards, Wattle Grove Accredited gives buyers the peace of mind that all animals, genetics and meat with the Wattle Grove Accredited tick have been assessed and meet the highest industry standards.
The focus in our breeding program has always been on structural integrity, longevity, production, and temperament. Strong herds are built on strong foundations and there is no denying that the structure of any animal is the foundation their production is built on. No figures in the world can fix bad feet or a weak spine.
As part of the accreditation program cattle are assessed on 16 physical attributes including structure, condition, muscle scoring, reproductive development, outlook and saleability to achieve an overall average score from 1 to 6. 1 being excellent and 6 being very bad. This number becomes the Wattle Grove Accredited Score.
Temperament is assessed and is provided as a stand-alone score. This allows for complete transparency on an individual animal’s temperament.
Wattle Grove Accredited animals are required to conform to structural requirements to ensure high levels of mobility, production, and adaptability to their environments. As a result, they have the potential to be more efficient and profitable as a production animal and they should thrive in a reproduction setting with increased longevity and profitability.
The assessment process and score allow cattle to be assessed objectively to assist with breeding, culling, and purchasing decisions.
With a focus on excellence and commitment to the highest standards of quality and integrity, we believe the Wattle Grove Speckle Park Accredited program is an excellent tool for anyone involved in the buying, breeding, management, or sale of Speckle Park cattle.
On each lot in the sale, we have provided the 16 individual accreditation scores along with the WG Accredited Score. This is then supported by scan data and genomic testing. Extensive descriptions of each trait can be found in the Wattle Grove Accredited Guidebook on our website.
We invite you to take the time to read the Wattle Grove Accredited Guidebook and use the information to assess the sale lots yourself.
We welcome your feedback as we continue to fine tune the system.
TEMPERAMENT TABLE
Broken in, pat in the paddock-These will be show stock or animals that have been handled their whole life. A temp score of 1 is hard to achieve.
Possibly pat in the paddock, broken in to lead-Can suit smaller operations, regular handling and can adapt to smaller herds.
Comes up for food can tolerate presence at a close distance-Can suit small and large operations, easy to handle if other cows are present and can have little to no handling issues.
Prefers some distance between them, does not show aggression-We prefer these animals to be sold with a friend and have less handling when at their new home. 5
Prefers a large distance can become aggressive if alone or forced-Only sold with a group of mates and to bigger operations. Once in a mob or working with plenty of cows the temperament score may reduce.
Charge when close, prefers to be as far away as possible-These animals are never sold and will be culled.
THE PROCESS:
How we assess and when:
· Individual assessment on each animal, including donors and ai sires.
· Animals are physically assessed as close to 200, 400, 600 and 800 days.
· Weights are taken on each assessment date.
· Bulls are semen tested and measured for scrotal circumference and capacity from 14 months of age.
· Internal reproductive tests are completed on females from 14 months of age.
· IMF, EMA, and fat depth scanning is completed and used in conjunction with the assessment.
· Abnormalities, treatments and calving are recorded as needed.
· If any animal scores a 6 in any of the attributes this animal will be an automatic cull.
