02 Otari Wilton Bush A true treat, so close to the city and yet what feels like miles from the daily grind.

Otari hosts many paths and walkways which are available to all, although some tracks get pretty steep!

Check out the 800 year old Rimu tree or take the canopy walkway and tune into the sounds of the beautiful native birds such as Tui, - and Pı-wakawaka (fantail), Kereru providing magnificent views of the forest and valley below.

03 Terawhiti Wilf Glover Turf Enjoy a game of football at the Terawhiti Wilf Glover Artificial surface. Perfect for football training and social activities. Located next to Mud Cycles and directly opposite the Karori Park Residences.

04 Skyline Walkway The Skyline is arguably Wellington’s best walk, and it is literally on the doorstep of Park Avenue.

This track runs along the ridge between Makara Saddle in Karori and Old Coach Road in Johnsonville. Whether you fancy taking on the full 13.4km (approx.

6 hours) track in one day or not, you an easily access and indulge in the stunning rural, city and coastal views. On a clear day, views of the Kaikoura ranges, the Marlborough Sounds, Wellington city, and the Tararua and Orongorongo ranges will take your breath away.

05 Wrights Hill Fortress Reserve The reserve is best known for the extensive World War II fortifications built to protect Wellington from a potential Japanese invasion.

The fortress is mostly underground, it contains numerous tunnels, command centres and gun emplacements. This reserve also is an excellent viewpoint, with bike and walking tracks.

Currently being restored by members and volunteers.

A fantastic piece of history right on your doorstep.

06 Zealandia Zealandia is one of Wellington’s best days out, situated right next to Karori, pack a lunch box and get ready to be wowed.

Zealandia is a predator-free, 225-hectare ecosanctuary of lush forest and native bush, and is home to over 40 rare species of native wildlife. Walk amongst rare birds like Hihi, Ka-ka-riki and Takahe and spot prehistoric reptiles like the Tuatara.

18 Makara Windmills & Track Makara is home to many fantastic walks, mountain bike tracks and stunning views from Kapiti Island to the Kaikoura Ranges.

Makara is also home to the Makara wind farm. With 62 wind turbines, generating enough electricity each year for about 73,000 New Zealand homes.

One of the walking tracks takes you up close to the People’s Turbine, which offers substantial views of the wind farm, views of the coastline and Makara Beach.

19 Makara Peak Mountain Biking Park Makara Peak Mountain Biking Park is the largest trail network in the lower North Island.

250 hectares of regenerating native bush and there’s even a 72m swing bridge. Makara Peak has something for riders of all ages and abilities.

There are wide, flowing tracks with gentle gradients that are perfect for beginners, children and families.

20 Karori Golf Club Karori Golf Club is set in the scenic Makara hills, surrounded by native bush clad hills where the only sounds you hear are birds.

Karori is a relaxed golf club, open to visitors and members. Karori Golf Club also has a nine hole Pitch and Putt course suitable for all ages.

21 Karori Swimming Pool This facility has a 25-metre heated indoor pool, learners’ pool, teaching pool, toddlers’ pool, hydroslide and spa.

Recipe: Feijoa & Chia Seed Pudding Feijoas are a New Zealand staple.

Try this delicious and healthy breakfast alternative recipe which is packed with delicious nutrients of omega fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Ingredients 300g Feijoas, peeled 50g water 1/2 cup chia seeds 1 tbsp Honey 1/2 tsp Vanilla essence 1 pinch salt 400ml coconut milk fresh fruit, mint to decorate Instructions Blend Feijoa flesh and water, cook on hob for 5 minutes. Add all other ingredients and mix together.

Cool down at room temperature and, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours! Serve with fresh fruit or berries.
