2022 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Exhibitions

Prior to moving to its new home at Schupf Arts, Ticonic Gallery hosted five exhibitions in the Hathaway Creative Center, including The Farm Tools Project, a visual exploration of the use of hand tools and sustainable agricultural methods on small Maine farms, and Piecework: Hathaway Stories + Storytellers, a multi-media depiction of the labor conditions and female Franco-American workers’ stories at the Hathaway Shirt Company. Ticonic Gallery opened its new space at the Paul J. Schupf Art Center with the Common Threads exhibition, which showcased the individual and collective stories gathered throughout the summer and provided a glimpse of the community’s shared hopes, dreams, and ideas for Waterville.

Clay Studio

In 2022, Ticonic Clay Studio launched a new visiting clay artist series taught by ceramic artists from around the state. The day-long workshops focused on specialty ceramic methods and techniques, including wild clay, pinch pots, and creation of unique, undulating clay vessels. With the opening of Schupf Arts, the clay studio now has its own designated space, allowing for expanded class offerings and increased benefits for studio members.

Education

The Ticonic Classroom was bustling in 2022 with artmakers of all ages and skill levels participating in a wide variety of educational programming. Highlights included two sold-out artist and maker camps for youth during April and summer vacations, a series of well-attended watercolor workshops in conjunction with MidMaine Regional Adult Community Education, and the reinstitution of regular Community Draw events, which provide artists of all skill levels the opportunity to sketch live models, outfitted with costumes provided by the Waterville Opera House.
