Happy Pride, Orlando

DEAR FRIENDS,

Aswe gear up for this year's Pride festivities, I’m reminded of the incredible power we hold when we live authentically and stand together. Each October is both a celebration and a call to action — a time to honor the journeys that brought us here and to continue shaping a future where everyone can live openly, safely and proudly.

This year’s festival theme, “We The People,” is more than a statement — it’s a commitment. It affirms that all people, regardless of identity, orientation or background, are woven into the fabric of our shared community. It is a declaration that our stories, our voices, and our rights matter.

In a world that often moves too quickly, I encourage us to approach this month with mindfulness — to listen deeply, to learn from one another and to hold space for both joy and healing. Our strength as a community comes not from uniformity, but from our incredible diversity and our commitment to inclusivity in action, not just words.

Come Out With Pride is here because of you — our volunteers, sponsors, partners and every person who shows up in love and solidarity. This month and always, let us remember that when we show up for each other, we make the promise of “We The People” real.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Thank you for being you.

AJ

EAGLE (SHE/HER) BOARD PRESIDENT COME OUT WITH PRIDE

COME OUT WITH PRIDE, ORLANDO!

Iam overjoyed to celebrate Pride again with you this year. It is my absolute pleasure to invite each and every one of you — our community and our allies — to join in the festivities of our 2025 celebration.

The Board of Directors and I deeply recognize the sanctity of our Pride space and how vital it is to come together. Pride is not simply a party — it is a living, breathing act of resistance, joy and community power. Here, you are seen. Here, you are celebrated. Here, you are free to be your most authentic self and to love boldly.

We know these are challenging times for the LGBTQIA+ community, especially here in Florida. We face harmful rhetoric, restrictive policies and the constant attempt to erase us. But let me be clear: we will not be erased. We are resilient. We resist. And above all, we remember the power of our collective voice.

In June 1969, at the Stonewall riots, brave Black and Brown trans women and queer leaders sparked a movement that would ripple across the world. Their courage reminds us that Pride was born not from comfort, but from resistance. Today, Pride continues to be both a celebration and a call to action — a time to rejoice in our victories, honor those who came before us, protect our most vulnerable, and demand equity and justice for all.

To those who are struggling — our undocumented siblings, those facing economic hardship, our trans and nonbinary community members fighting for their rights and access to genderaffirming care, and anyone carrying

pain and fear in these uncertain times: we see you, we stand with you and we will not leave you behind. Our liberation is bound together, and our strength is found in solidarity.

This year, our theme is We The People. These three words are not only the foundation of our democracy, but also a declaration that our community belongs fully in the fabric of this nation. We The People means every LGBTQIA+ person, every family, every ally. It is a rallying cry to stand together, because when we are united, we are unstoppable.

As one of the largest Prides in the Southeast, we anticipate this year’s celebration to be spectacular — bigger, brighter and louder than ever.

Did you know Come Out With Pride is powered by a small but mighty team — our Board of Directors, myself as Executive Director and incredible volunteers? We are dedicated to keeping Pride free and accessible to all, but we cannot do it without you.

Please consider joining our volunteer family or supporting with a donation to help ensure this vision continues.

This is your Pride. This is our Pride. Together, We The People will celebrate, resist and rise. I cannot wait to see you in community on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

With Pride and solidarity,

As Mayor of the City of Orlando, I am proud to welcome you to the annual Come Out With Pride Parade and Festival. Each October, this event in downtown Orlando is a powerful expression of love and unity.

During Come Out With Pride, residents and visitors from all walks of life come together to celebrate the history, achievements and unwavering resilience of Orlando’s LGBTQIA+ community. Together we showcase that Orlando is a place where every person is respected, valued and encouraged to be their authentic selves.

With all that is happening in our state, country and around the globe, it is so important that we highlight Orlando’s collective values and let every person know that our city is and will always be a community where LGBTQIA+ residents and visitors are welcomed, seen and heard. That’s why Come Out With Pride is more than a celebration; it’s a declaration of our city’s commitment to inclusion.

Please join me in thanking Come Out With Pride’s staff, executive committee, board, volunteers, partners and sponsors. Their efforts and dedication have ensured that this event has remained incredibly impactful.

I hope that you experience a joyful and empowering Come Out With Pride.

Sincerely,

CARING IS UNIVERSAL

August 27, 2025

Greetings!

Welcome to Orange County for this year’s Come Out With Pride celebration.

Orange County has long been celebrated as one of the nation’s most traveled destinations, known for its iconic theme parks, vibrant arts scene, diverse culinary experiences, and thriving cultural landscape. However, what truly defines Orange County is the strength of our public, private, and philanthropic partnerships. These relationships form the foundation of our community and fuel our shared growth and progress.

This year’s theme for Come Out With Pride is, We the People, a powerful reminder that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their identity or background. It reflects the strength we find in unity and the importance of standing together as one community.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident or visiting Orange County for the first time, I extend a warm welcome on behalf of the 1.5 million residents who call Orange County home. Once again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy everything our community has to offer.

WHEREAS, community leaders in Central Florida recognized the need for a Pride celebration centered on fostering acceptance and visibility; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, Come Out With Pride, Inc., an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, was established to create a positive impact for LGBTQ+ individuals in Orlando and the surrounding region; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, Come Out With Pride has grown into one of the Southeast’s premier Pride events, drawing more than 230,000 attendees to its annual parade and festival; and

WHEREAS, Come Out With Pride remains committed to creating inclusive, welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies; and

WHEREAS, the 2025 theme, We the People, highlights the strength found in unity and shared purpose, serving as a reminder that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect; and

WHEREAS, October is recognized as LGBTQ+ History Month and includes National Coming Out Day, offering an opportunity to celebrate LGBTQ+ visibility, history, and achievements.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry L. Demings, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Orange County Mayor, do hereby proclaim Saturday, October 18, 2025, as

COME OUT WITH PRIDE DAY in Orange County, Florida.

DONE AND ORDERED this 27th day of August 2025.

JERRY L. DEMINGS, ORANGE COUNTY MAYOR

Grand Marshals

AJ BLOUNT AND BRITNEY THOMPSON

Known for their impactful roles on Netflix’s “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” Orlando's AJ Blount and Britney Thompson have become powerful voices for visibility and a strong representation of queer love.

By sharing their love story with authenticity and courage, they’ve inspired countless individuals and shown the world that queer love is valid, beautiful and worthy of celebration.

The couple has lived in Orlando for almost 10 years and has no plans to leave anytime soon. Thompson notes that they have attended Come Out With Pride for many years and being named as grand marshals is a “dream come true.”

She adds that Pride in Orlando holds a special place in her heart.

“When I first moved to Orlando, which coincides with when I first came

out, essentially, I went to Pride my very first year living here," she explains. "I felt so welcomed, I felt so seen, I felt so represented because I didn't have any queer representation in my entire life.

"Then being at a parade filled with people that looked like me, acted like me, loved like me and that had different identities, it was just freeing,” Thompson continues. She says it boosted her confidence to see LGBTQ+ representation because she saw people living as their authentic selves.

She saw couples holding hands and waving Pride flags and it made her feel

comforted, she recalls.

Blount says that being recognized as a grand marshal is an honor because Orlando is a place that celebrates those that show up for their community. She says the city will only continue to build greatness.

“I think being a grand marshal just truly means you show up for your community ... on a daily basis as far as being you are,” Blount says.

On the Netflix series, Thompson, a registered nurse and an entrepreneur, gave her longtime partner of five years, Blount, the ultimatum of committing to marriage. They were one of the six couples who put their relationship to the test.

The couple is currently engaged and planning their wedding.

For this year, Blount says she is looking forward to meeting and connecting with the Black and Brown community in Orlando. Thompson says she loves to meet those in the community and make connections.

“I'm looking forward to representing such an underrepresented community,” Blount explains. “I'm excited to connect with those that potentially watched the show, that potentially rooted for us, that know love is far and wide. I'm excited to meet them and answer questions if they have any and just connect.”

“I think what I'm looking forward to the most is people seeing me on the float, maybe recognizing a familiar face and then afterwards or during just being able to say that warm hello… I'd just want to give everyone a hug if I could,” Thompson adds.

The couple shares the excitement and anticipation for Come Out With Pride as they have worked together in the past and held events together. Blount says the safe environment that has been created allows for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community to thrive as there is something for everybody.

Blount wants those in the community to be proud of who they are. She notes that the most important thing that we can do in our community is be kind to others as Pride is about love and acceptance.

“Remember more than anything that we are never alone,” Blount says. “I think that Pride is about celebrating yourself and supporting each other with as much love and respect as you can.”

Grand Marshals

JEN COUSINS

As a proud mom of four, Jen Cousins has been a fierce champion for LGBTQ+ rights, public education and the fight against censorship.

In her testimony, she voiced that she felt the need to travel to Tallahassee with the other concerned parents, students and advocates.

She has been involved in LGBTQ+ rights since she was a teenager as she identifies as pansexual. Cousins became deeply engaged with the Orange County School Board when the book “Gender Queer,” a graphic memoir by Maia Kobabe about sexual identity, was banned in her school district.

“I've just tried to use the privilege that I have of being able to be a stayat-home mom to put all of my time into fighting these things,” Cousins shares. “I’m standing in place of people who can't or are afraid to.”

With two children in the LGBTQ+ community, Cousins says she’s incredibly proud to raise them in a safe and loving environment.

She knows many kids go through difficulties when it comes to letting people know about their authentic

selves and if she could, she would open her home to all of them.

Cousins has worked alongside parents, teachers and community leaders to protect and strengthen schools. She calls the work she does a “non-stop fight,” as she brings awareness to so many issues.

As co-founder of the grassroots Florida Freedom to Read Project, she combats censorship in the school district. FFTRP was formed in 2022 and rapidly grew to tackle censorship statewide and has collaborated with national groups.

FFTRP collaborates locally with Come Out With Pride, The Center Orlando, Zebra Youth and The Orlando Strong Symposium. It also works with existing parent groups statewide on a range of educational issues, including efforts to “keep or get back books that have gone under challenge or have been banned.”

Cousins testified before Congressman Jamie Raskin’s Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties about the harms of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay or Trans” law and her family was the lead plaintiff on the lawsuit.

She has spoken at numerous Florida school board meetings, the Florida Board of Education and at rallies in support of LGBTQ+ rights.

In 2024, she helped form the Central Florida Steering Committee of GLSEN and also accepted a role on the Orlando Steering Committee of the Human Rights Campaign, furthering her impact in creating safer, more inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ youth and families.

just burns me with such rage to watch the way that they are treated and the threats being made to them; just the basic human dignities that they're being denied.”

It's clear that her courage, leadership and unwavering commitment to the LGBTQ+ community have made her a voice for equality and justice. As a grand marshal, Cousins says she is humbled and appreciative of the support she receives from the Orlando community.

She also notes that transgender rights should be advocated more in this year’s Pride as there have been so many political polices targeting those in the community.

“Look at what we've seen with the new administration coming forward,” Cousins explains. “With my own child being non-binary, to my best friends who are trans people — I have so many friends in Orlando that are trans — it

Cousins says it may feel like there are new obstacles every day but that doesn’t mean she will stop fighting and she hopes the community doesn’t either.

She’s noticed many friends and families flee Florida because they are scared of the political changes in the past couple of years, the advocate adds.

“We're not going to stop fighting, the elders, but one day we are going to have to,” Cousins notes. “And we need everybody to keep learning and to keep fighting.”

HEATHER WILKIE

DEBBIE SIMMONS AWARD RECIPIENT

Heather Wilkie, executive director of Zebra Youth, has worked in activism for 15 years and is honored to be celebrated at Come Out With Pride.

Although she is leaving her position at Zebra Youth, she says recognizing that it is time for new leadership is part of being a good leader. She calls the moment bittersweet as she is concluding nearly a decade of leadership.

Wilkie began with Zebra Youth as a graduate intern. During her time, she guided the expansion of multiple housing facilities, ensuring more LGBTQ+ youth had access to safe and affirming spaces.

“Knowing that this is the end of a chapter at this organization but

knowing that I will continue doing great work as an activist in the community, it's kind of something that doesn't ever leave you,” Wilkie shares. “So, I'm very honored to have received this recognition.”

The Debbie Simmons Community Excellence Award is the highest honor presented by Come Out With Pride. It celebrates local individuals who have gone above and beyond for the LGBTQ+ community over their lifetime.

The award is named in honor of Debbie Simmons, past president of the

demonstrate long-standing leadership through advocacy, philanthropy and the cultivation of queer joy.

“I got to learn a lot from Miss Sammy from seeing her over the years and helping me when I was a newcomer,” Jones shares. “Being recognized for the Miss Sammy Award means a lot because this is an individual who I learned from; someone who gave back to her community through her art and her talent.”

Initially born in Jacksonville, Jones moved to Orlando in 1996 to live in her truth and become her authentic self.

Jones says it's a blessing to be a part of the Pride parade and is looking forward to spending time and camaraderie with the community. She notes that in Orlando, there is a “blue bubble,” and that means the community has to fight even harder to protect each other.

“Pride is definitely a protest and we should not forget the reason why

it started from Stonewall,” Jones says. “And for me, I want to keep that protest going and just be able to be proud of the people we are, the people that we love and the people that we affect by speaking love in this community.”

With the political climate, Jones wants the younger generation to know that there are more tools available now to do the research and to understand one another.

“Freedom is a constant fight; it is not something that we just win a battle and then we think it's done,” Jones shares. “... we have to continue to live proudly and be great examples of humanity.”

Metropolitan Business Association, now The Pride Chamber, and a founding member of Come Out With Pride.

Wilkie says she looks forward to being with the community, as it is an important time to support and fight for the LGBTQ+ community.

When Wilkie thinks of what Pride means, she thinks of community, support, validity and acceptance. She calls it a day that the community can come together to recognize and celebrate the joy that is Pride. She also notes that it is important to remember that change is not always linear.

She explains that sometimes to move forward, you may have to take a couple of steps backwards, even when it comes to the political system and changes.

“You have to keep fighting,” Wilkie says. “You have to keep that momentum because ultimately we all want the same thing in our community and that's to see each other thrive, have experienced joy and have equal rights.”
