The Waterford Fund plays a pivotal role in supporting curriculum innovations that stimulate intellect in our students. Thanks to professional development made possible by the Waterford Fund, Lower School Math Tutoring Director Rayann Sandstrom introduced Math Investigations into the curriculum. These collaborative, hands-on tasks foster deep problem-solving and critical thinking skills, encouraging students to explore complex mathematical concepts and take ownership of their learning. Through the Waterford Fund, our faculty are empowered to bring the most engaging and intellectually stimulating methods of learning to the classroom.

The Waterford Fund fuels meaningful learning experiences that ignite passion and nurture a love of learning. In Middle and Upper School English, students are using writing as a tool for thinking, engaging in collaborative assignments that foster a deeper appreciation for its power—not just as a skill, but as an essential tool in any career. Thanks to the Waterford Fund, our English Department was able to host faculty from the Bard Institute for Writing and Thinking for a tailored professional development experience, which has enhanced how students are learning about writing this year. As a result of experiences like these, Waterford students graduate as passionate lifelong learners and independent thinkers, equipped with a strong command of writing and a broader, more worldly perspective.

The Waterford Fund is instrumental in supporting programs that foster community while shaping the character of each student. Thanks to generous contributions, Waterford has expanded its Middle School Theater offerings, ensuring all Class VI students have a foundational experience with theater, and can choose to participate in a robust theater program for the duration of their Middle School years. This program not only introduces students to the technical aspects of theater but also provides a transformative environment where they learn the value of collaboration, creativity, and self-expression. In these moments, students discover their unique voice, develop confidence, and experience the powerful lessons of working together in a shared purpose—essential elements that shape character and prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
