WHS Students and Parents – Since we will be using a Distance Learning approach to education at Waterford High School for the near future, here is the weekly class meeting and office hours schedule, along with the answers to some of the more commonly-asked questions about it: Daily Schedule: It is important that you establish and stick to a regular routine to continue your learning, since you will be learning online at least until April 20 and potentially for much longer than that. To help you do that, we will have regular meeting times for each of your classes and daily teachers’ office hours for you to contact any teacher you need. During office hours teachers will be available by email, shared Google Docs, or video-conferencing with students as needed. The weekly rotation of class meeting times and office hours will be: Day

Stay Healthy: I hope you are all safe and healthy during this challenging time, both physically (focus on social distancing) and emotionally. If you find that you are struggling emotionally with the change in your routine, lost access to friends, sports, the arts, or whatever else gives you purpose, understand that this is a perfectly normal response to what we are all experiencing. If you need support of any kind, please reach out right away to a trusted adult. At WHS your school counselor is a great place to start, but feel free to reach out to your Advisory teacher, a school social worker or psychologist, or the school administrators if you need anything. We are all here to help you in whatever way you need – all you have to do is ask!

Google Classroom: All of your classes will be taking place through Google Classroom while we are learning from home. Many of your teachers already used Google Classroom, so there is nothing new for most of you to learn. Google Classroom will be the primary way for teachers to post assignments, interact with you, and collect assignments. Class Attendance: We will be paying attention to attendance, so please do your very best to be logged on and participating in each of your scheduled classes at the correct time. If you simply cannot be present when a class is scheduled to meet, email your teacher as soon as possible to make sure that you know what the assignment is and to ask any questions you have about the work. Why are we tracking attendance? Because your success is very important to us, and the best way for us to know whether you are engaged in your learning or if you need support with the distance learning approach is by knowing whether you are participating on a regular basis. Connecting With Your Teachers: The most important way to connect with your teachers and your learning is to be present for your classes’ virtual meeting times. Teachers may be posting assignments, asking you to complete a blog post, posting videos, or inviting you to a Google Meet or Zoom video-conference during your class time. At other times, you may be connecting with your teachers through email or by collaborating on a shared Google Doc. Teachers may also be using video-conferencing to have conversations with you during office hours. Staying connected with your teachers will be essential, as we are all learning how to do online learning together, and they will be learning from you while you are learning from them. Marking Periods: Quarter 3 will end with all of the work that was assigned prior to the closure, and Quarter 4 work will begin with the first distance learning work that teachers assign. If you have any work that was assigned but has not been turned in yet, we will still accept it until Friday, April 3, so get that turned in as soon as you can!
