Next week, our school will participate in Start with Hello Week, a national initiative that teaches students the power of simple, friendly actions to build connections and reduce social isolation. Each day, students will practice small but meaningful ways to include others like greeting classmates, inviting someone new to join in, or showing kindness through words and actions. By learning that a simple “hello” can open the door to friendships and belonging, our students help create a more welcoming and supportive school community. Helping Kids Talk About Their Day
Sometimes children focus on one tough moment and forget all the good parts of their school day. Try asking questions that help them reflect on the whole picture:
• What was the best part of your day?
• What made you laugh today?
• Who did you sit with at lunch or play with at recess?
• What’s something new you learned?
• Was there a moment today that was tricky? How did you handle it?
• If you could relive one part of today, what would it be?
• Who was kind to you today? How were you kind to someone else?
These simple prompts can turn quick check-ins into meaningful conversations.
