Congratulations to 5th grader Grace Brown! Grace was honored by the Waterford Rotary Club as Great Neck’s Student of the Year!

A HUGE Thank you goes out to all the donors and students and staff that helped make this event such a success. The Great Neck Kindness Council would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Reed, Mr. Kinder, and Brianna Hogarty for going above and beyond for this fundraiser. Due to our combined efforts, Great Neck was able to raise $2,303 to benefit Boston Children’s Hospital!

Congratulations to second grade student Adalynn MacKinnel and fifth grade student Evelyn Pezzi who were honored as this month’s Waterford Wonders at the Board of Education Meeting.

Attention 5th Grade Parents/Guardians:
This letter is to provide you with information regarding your future 6th grade student. The Waterford Board of Education, in compliance with the Connecticut School Health Law (P.A. sec. 10-204 and 10-206), requires health physicals during the 6th grade. The physical is considered valid if it is completed any time after the last day of the student’s 5th grade school year, which for this school year is June 12th. Please note that the physical must be completed before your child’s entry into 7th grade.
The following are the requirements needed for 7th grade:
Health Physical dated after June 14, 2024, with proof of blood work (Hematocrit or Hemoglobin) on the physical.
Proof of three doses of Hepatitis B
Proof of Tdap vaccine
Proof of three doses against Polio; last dose must be given on or after 4th birthday
Proof of two immunizations against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
Proof of two immunizations against chicken pox (Varicella)
Proof of two immunizations against Hepatitis A
Proof of Meningococcal vaccine (McV4)
Entrance into 7th grade will be denied without compliance to these health physical requirements.
If your child has medication in the health room:
All medication must be picked up before the end of the school year. The Health Room is unable to hold medications over the summer for any reason. Any medication not picked up by the last day of school will be discarded per State of CT guidelines. The Health Room will close for pick up on 6/11/25. Please make arrangements to pick up your child's medication prior to closing.

Absences: What to Know
Attending
school
every
day

is important for building good habits
Being in school every day allows a student to:
Be part of a community
Learn and grow with friends
Build connections with teachers and other trusted adults
Everyone misses school sometimes, but regular attendance should be the goal.

How many absences are too many?
Missing even two days of school a month disrupts routines and creates a habit of missing school—also called chronic absenteeism. Send your child to school every day so they get the full benefits of learning.
