







Jamu is a Javanese term for medicinal products grown from native herbs that do not use chemicals as additives. The word Jamu comes from traditional Javanese language "jampi usada" which means "prayer for health".
In medieval times (15-16 AD), the term usodo was rarely used. Conversely the term “jampi” is increasingly popular among the courtiers. Then the term "herbal medicine" is introduced to the public by "traditional healers".
Jamu is the perfect combination of knowledge and ingenuity which has been passed down through the ages.

StoryThe exertion of jamu is depicted at Borobudur’s relief panel. They dated way back around 600-800 AD from the Majapahit era. According to the scene, the usage of jamu was limited exclusively to the royal of Kraton. Hence the term perjamuan in Bahasa Indonesia, as it contains the word jamu where it also translates as: to regale.
It was until sometime around the year 1500, when Sultan Agung of Mataram declared jamu is generally available. He granted 8 recipes for people to practice, spread all over the kingdom through Jamu seller called Mbok Jamu.
The Sultan wishes for health and well-being of the nation could equally share all over the archipelago.
