Message from a Grateful Scholarship Recipient

A

s a junior in high school, I spent weeks at a time as a patient in and out of St. Louis Children’s Hospital. When residents and medical students checked on me, I would ask questions about where they studied, their career interests, and how they got to be where they were. I was intrigued by the prospect of a career where I could use scientific knowledge to care for patients like myself. After this experience, I remember thinking how incredible it would be if I someday had the opportunity to study at WashU and become a physician.

When I applied to medical school several years later, I was drawn to WashU for several reasons, including its cutting-edge research, renowned faculty, and close proximity to my family. I felt a special fondness for this institution after having spent time in the hospital getting to know the members of this wonderful community. When I was admitted, I was ecstatic. Then came the logistical planning—how would I afford this opportunity?

Thanks to you and your philanthropy, I am pursuing my younger self’s dream. I am studying and doing research at the world-class institution that helped me regain my health, hoping to give back by caring for future patients.

Every scholarship story is different, but the common thread is that we each are drawn to this remarkable institution, and our dreams are made possible by the vision and generosity of donors like you.

Annual Scholarships offer donors

the opportunity to sponsor a named scholarship on a renewal basis. Every annual scholarship gift is recognized with membership in the William Greenleaf Eliot Society.

Annual scholarships received by the end of the fiscal year ( June 30) will be awarded to a student that same fall.

Donors will receive a student profile in the fall that includes biographical information and a note of thanks from the student. The donor and scholarship recipient will be invited to the annual scholarship recognition dinner.
