Children’s conflicts over toys, space, and friendships create many challenges for teachers and parents. Join us as we dive into an effective six-step mediation process that adults can use to support young children at these tense and emotional times. This process is now being used in public schools, early childhood centers, Head Start programs, and homes across the country, with toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary students. Through real life stories, role plays, and classroom scenarios, teachers will gain strategies to help children resolve conflicts and make the most of these valuable learning opportunities.

Time: 8:30 am - 1:00 pm Facilitators: WISD Staff SCECHs: 4

Individuals must bring their BLUE CARDS to show proof of certification within the last 24 months. This enhanced NVCI refresher program is a review of a safe-nonharmful behavior support system that aligns with Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS). The training covers information related to responding, decision making, and controls. The major focus of the course will be on the prevention of negative behaviors rather than the reaction to negative behaviors by teaching participants about CPI Crisis Development Model, precipitation factors, setting limits, communication and the importance of re-establishing a therapeutic relationship after a crisis. The program also teaches physical intervention strategies (disengagement and holds) to be only used as a last resort--when an individual presents an imminent danger to self or others. All physical interventions taught are designed to be nonharmful, noninvasive, and to maintain an individual's dignity. The philosophy of the program is to provide care, welfare, security and safety for all. Individuals will receive their new BLUE CARD upon completion of the course.
