CYNTHIA RYAN’S BLACK & WHITE BIRTHDAY Mansion on O Street | PHOTOS BY KWESI ABBENSETTS SOIREE OF SOCIAL CHANGE: Inspired by Truman Capote’s iconic Black & White Ball (circa 1966), Schooner Foundation principal Cynthia Ryan took over the entire Mansion on O Street to celebrate her birthday with Washington’s politically active & internationally engaged community. Encrusted and feathered masks were provided for the revelers who danced late into the night, among them the Clinton Global Initiative’s Girls and Women’s Program Penny Abeywardena, Rebuild the Dream founder Van Jones, Democracy Alliance’s Alexandra Visher, Women for Women International founder Zainab Salbi, and the Wallace Global Fund’s Ellen Dorsey. In lieu of birthday presents, guests supported the Fonderie47 Foundation that finances removal of assault rifles from the Congo, transforming them into exquisite gold and metal jewelry like the Philip Crangi earrings worn by Cynthia.
