A Whole New World

Inside this Edition:

As I sat down at the beginning of March to work on this article, I had just returned from a beautiful vacation with friends in Puerto Vallarta; the topic for this edition was one I was excited to share and was looking forward to writing. If you know me well, writing is not my favorite activity and one that I try to delegate as much as possible; little did I realize what life would look like a mere two weeks later.

This week marks for many, the fourth week of not working; the fourth week of watching the numbers here in Washington and across the country rise, sharply in some areas, with no end in sight. Now with the lengthened “stay at home” order and the added restrictions on outside activities, creating further concerns about what lies ahead, this has us asking the big questions. How we will survive professionally, financially, emotionally, and spiritually? #whatsnext

I addressed you during a Facebook live session in March. It seems more like a year ago and not three weeks. During that announcement, I spoke about WDHA starting small group sessions that would meet three times a day, every day through the Governor’s mandate of May 18, 2020. These sessions were designed to give you, our members, the opportunity to stay connected during the downtime; to share your concerns, support one another, and help fill the void of not being with your work families. What these sessions have morphed and grown into is more than I could have hoped for. They are full of laughter, discussions about the future, supposition on how dentistry will look when this is over, a safe place to share our fears, agonize about unemployment, and a sanctuary of TLC and support. And those who are homeschooling (bless you!), it gives you adult conversations and a little break from the kiddos. There are now CE sessions being offered every week to help you meet your licensing requirements. These are FREE to our members, many of them being provided by fellow members. Each course includes a post test in order for the credit to be utilized towards licensing requirements. The topics are varied, interesting, and thought provoking. I am excited to learn from my friends and keep my brain happy while we wait out this pandemic in the safety of our homes. I am also incredibly proud of the caliber of speakers we have within our midst. Please take the opportunity to join us and see for yourselves what amazing colleagues we have across the state.
