16TH NOVEMBER 2018 5PM-9PM DONCASTER MINSTER Inside and outside the Minster will come alive with interactive light installations, performance and the stunning Museum of the Moon.

Part of the week-long Festival of Light running 16-24th November.

The event is free, but tickets must be booked for a half an hour slot for Museum of the Moon.

What is Culture Crawl?

Culture Crawl is an alternative night out where you can immerse yourself in Donny culture, discover new venues, view and buy art made by local creatives and meet a diverse range of interesting people. The event will take place across various shops, cafes and bars in the town centre and aims to help people rediscover the town.

Culture Crawl kicks off on Tuesday 30th October from 5pm onwards, What age range is Culture Crawl Suitable for?

Children are welcome to attend Culture Crawl and some of the venues and locations will be providing activities for children. Not all venues are suitable and children should be accompanied by an adult at all times.

How to do get there?

By public transport — Doncaster is less than an hour away from Sheffield, York and Leeds and an hour and a three quarters from London, Kings Cross by train. The transport interchange connects the train and bus station to the Frenchgate Centre and the rest of town. By car Doncaster boasts excellent links to the motorway network including the M18 link to the M1 ( jnc 3/4), A1(m) ( jnc 36) and the M62.

Where to park?

We recommend parking in the Frenchgate Centre car park. The Centre is ideally located in the heart of Doncaster with two secure car parks, a rooftop car park and a multi-storey car park. The tariff is only £1.40 per hour.

1. C-View (DN1 1AF) Formerly Doncaster Art College is now home to artist studios and exhibition spaces.

Still Drawing presents the work of Graham Firth (printmaker), Al Heighton (Illustrator) and Andrew Farmer (painter); a trio of artists well respected on the Doncaster art scene, nationally and internationally.

Although very different in technique and style, all have a fascination with ‘people and their environments’ and are often found drawing in public, documenting the world around them. Don’t forget to visit the studios of artists Terry Chipp and Adam Berry, plus photographer Gary Wilkinson Revu Photography. 5:00-9pm

8. Taste Eatery (DN1 3JU) Holistic therapist Suzie Wassil will be hosting Divination Dishes enjoy a Samhain Halloween tarot reading from 5pm -7pm Tim Taplin and friends will be performing on the night.

Expect a brilliant night of homegrown talent. 5pm - till late.

3. Unitarian Church (DN1 3PB) Explore one of Doncaster’s best kept secrets as the Unitarian Church on Hallgate presents a ‘Night of Lights’ showcasing the floodlit and fairy-lit artistic talents of its members.

There will be live mural painting, by Josephine Copley, mini-exhibition of art and Brian Morrell on cocktail piano (in the bookshop).

This incredible singer/song writer has the best vocal trills in town, not one to miss. Outside the Deli expect a special treat from Mamma Wheatley’s Craft Club. 5pm -7pm

2. Frenchgate Warren Draper Photographer and Doncopolitan founder, is back in the Frenchgate taking new portraits for phase 2 of her ‘Faces Of Frenchgate’ exhibition. If you fancy having your portrait taken freeof-charge then pop along. 5:00-7pm

This map is your guide to Doncaster’s second Culture Crawl event. It’s up to you what you decide to visit and explore on the night but, if you are a hardcore Culture Vulture, we recommend meeting at C-view at 5pm and following the route in numerical order, exploring each venue as you go. Culture Crawl is curated by local creatives Rachel Horne and Danny McMillian.

It’s a free night out for residents supported by local business. It’s a chance to explore a different side to your town. 4. Dreambakes (DN1 1TS) Imogen Carline’s artwork will be on display. Imogen is a 16-year-old artist with severe ASD. Previously featured on the front cover of Doncopolitan Issue 30, Imogen uses her art as a way of communicating the world around her. Imogen is prolific in making artwork which is bold and joyful, often inspired by characters from CBeebies. Imogen’s dad, renowned blues and roots musician Frank Carline, will be performing at the event from 6pm onwards. Street food vendors Pinch N’ Pull will be outside serving up some high quality nosh. 5:30-8pm.

5. Little Theatre (DN1 1JD) Fluid/ity is Doncaster’s first drag collective exploring gender, drag and sexuality through art and fashion. In collaboration with clothing label Offend Your Eyes the collective is taking over the Little Theatre with artwork and performance.

From 8pm there will be a screening of the classic documentary Paris Is Burning which explores drag culture in New York in the 1980s followed by live ball walk from this uber inspiring collective. 5.00pm -late.

6. Sciculuna’s Deli (DN1 1QZ) Angie Gill, Gary Smith and Tracy Cooper are enthusiastic photographers and for a long period of time have been members of the TTL Camera Club in Doncaster. They specialize

7. Doncopolitan (DN1 2QP) “Wonk Out Donc”, curated by exploratory music collective Wonky Planet. Line-up includes Weetlemen including Bleeding Tooth (7:00pm), John Merrick’s Remains (8:00pm) and Mangabros 9:00pm. Born Thick is back featuring new work from Grimes & Jones, Rachel Horne, Marcel Prevaritura, Jo Carline and Wall Of Yawn. Spice Yorkshire will be presenting a small installation exploring the history of the drug Spice and its impact on the town. 6pm -10pm

9. The Point (DN1 2DR) Artists Rooms presents the work of high profile artist Bill Viola. Viola is internationally recognised as having been instrumental in the establishment of video as a vital form of contemporary art. His videos focus on universal human experiences—birth, death, and the unfolding of consciousness—and his pieces are shown in museums and galleries worldwide.. 5pm -8pm 10. Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery (DN1 2AE) Explore the museum’s collections during the evening while checking out this year’s Open Art Show, featuring the work of over a hundred artists.

5pm - 8pm 11. Cast (DN1 3BU) The Love Story Project, Cast’s Nook Bar - FREE Share your family’s love stories!

Cast is collecting real-life local accounts of how your parents and grandparents met and fell in love, the stories will form part of an enchanting exhibition that will be at Cast in November as part of our celebrations around internationally renowned show “Old Stock – A Refugee Love Story”. There will also be an enchanting performance of candle lit folk music in Cast’s café bar throughout the evening, free of charge. 5pm onwards 12. Greenhouse (DN1 3LH) Doncaster’s only vegan restaurant is hosting The Greenhouse of Horror with spooky face paints, No Whey Vegan Cheese, a Halloween hamper giveaway, pumpkin carving for kids and buffet.

5pm -8pm 13. Masons Arms (DN1 3PB) Abstract painter Neil Rands, whose work is currently on display in the Mason’s famous yard will be live painting on broken guitars from 5pm onwards. Doncaster’s Folk Club will be hosting their regular Singaround from 8.30pm.

Expect a traditional folky vibe and find out more about Doncaster’s annual folk festival.

14. Vintage (DN1 1HT) Breaking Beats alongside local MCs will be hosting an Hip Hop open mic night at one of Doncaster’s favourite live music venues.
