Bellbrae Primary School. The project was initially delayed while the school awaited the outcome of another grant application. Finally, work got underway in June this year , starting with the planting by the Grade Six crew. The project coordinator emailed us, saying, "We still have a few more plants to go in, and the kids have been loving getting their hands dirty! Thanks again for your generous donation. It is really starting to make a big difference to the appearance of the front of our school."

“The climate-resilient garden project at the school is a fantastic addition to our outdoor common spaces. The development of play/learning spaces is aimed at informing our students about the need to adapt and be environmentally friendly.”

Bellbrae planted this dedicated climate-resilient garden bed near their front entry common space to educate the children and provide a gathering space to discuss learnings. This space is now a common area for students to play and roam incorporating Warners plant life and other sensory climate-resilient plants to enhance their play.

What is ‘One Tree Per Child’?

One Tree Per Child aims to get every child to plant at least one tree before they leave school. Founded by Olivia Newton-John and Jon Dee, One Tree Per Child has planted trees in 10 countries. The video below shows the success of the program globally and just some of the children who’ve planted trees.

This initiative aims to get families, schools, community groups and local councils involved in planting trees to benefit local communities and promote the well-being benefits of getting into the garden. Jane and Jimmy Barnes are on board as the Australian Ambassadors to the program and will be promoting it through their social media channels and traditional media. The promotional poster (left) going out to all GCA members shows Jimmy Barnes planting a tree with his grandson. Warners are proud sponsors of this program since becoming Associate Members of the Garden Centres of Australia group.

The Front Sales and car park project is progressing well after overcoming numerous unforeseen obstacles along the way, from “underground rivers and swampland” to torrential trench collapsing rain events. The results are outstanding. It’s wonderful to see the space filling now with stock and ‘Pa’s Shed’ and the surrounding gardens taking shape.

A huge thank you to everyone for your hard work and effort in bringing this project to life It is looking so good now, but there is plenty more to come… watch this space.

HAARS NURSERY VISIT

Bec, Maya and Kathy were recently given a detailed tour of Haars Nursery, by Kylie Balmain, their Key Accounts Manager. They’re seen here ‘frocked up’ in the ‘Mother Stock’ Greenhouse.

They had the chance to view the Despatch processes, propagation, and potting lines.

It was wonderful opportunity to learn how another Nursery manages these areas of their business.

Our annual winter lunch will be on Friday 30th August. This year it will take on extra significance as we officially celebrate John and Michaels contribution to Warners Nurseries over the last for decades.

Look out for a reminder in Teams with more detail.
