Situated at the end of Masar Destination, Masar Mall is the fusion of a visionary future and a deep respect for the rich history, culture, andtraditions. The primary vision driving Masar Mall is to establish itself as the largest commercial destination, becoming a focal point within the growing community. The goal is to provide an active and vibrant experience for people, residents, visitors, and pilgrims of Makkah.
Architecturally, Masar Mall reflects the distinctive characteristics of Makkah. The design draws inspiration from the city’s roofscapes, clusters, and asymmetry, seamlessly integrating Makkah’s Islamic patterns, modules, and traditional materials. This synthesis of contemporary vision with cultural authenticity sets the mall apart as a unique and culturally rich space.
The mall’s concept is deeply rooted in the ambiance of Makkah’s old souqs, where the spirit of community, connectivity, and accessibility thrived. The design incorporates shaded and well-defined alleyways, reminiscent of traditional marketplaces, creating an inviting and engaging atmosphere. Natural lighting is thoughtfully integrated to enhance the overall experience, playing with light and shadow.
Rhythmic store frontages contribute to the dynamic aesthetic, mirroring the liveliness of a traditional marketplace. In essence, Masar Mall is more than a commercial space; it is a living tribute to the convergence of past and future. CULTURAL CENTER
about-
The design represents embrace, people coming together to celebrate diversity and different cultures. Two structures coming together, despite their differences.
The structure is planned with the goal that the northern façade presents the striking perspective on Dubai Creek, uncovered to the visitors as they circulate through the structure and move between spaces underneath, which is the central plaza and amphitheatre.
the space’s layout and color palette are determined by Shibui’s seven elements: simplicity, implicity, modesty, naturalness, everydayness, imperfection, and silence.
The foyer is accented with an oriental styled shoe cabinet, and one of the walls is adorned with a sashiko pattern, a traditional Japanese embroidery pattern. Through the moon gate, the foyer overlooks the karesansui, and as you enter from the stepped flooring, you’ll see an open floor plan that connects spaces in a way that’s both different and unifying. Chaishitsu is a tea parlor in Asian culture that seats people on the floor to enhance posture and keep them closer to the earth. A screen separates the tea room from the living area, which contains furniture made of natural materials such as timber.
The breakfast bar receives natural day light from the north-east, allowing the area to be lit by naturally. A beautiful Japanese fan and an artwork on either wall encloses the dining area. It has a translucent opening through the shoji screen that provides access to the garden.
