Kevin Max aka King K is one artist to watch this year. Straight out of the United States of America and now based in Nairobi Kenya, he has just released his double mixtapes ‘This Style Aint Free’ and ‘One Pain’ which are being received very well locally and internationally. Both mixtapes showcase his musical prowess as a lyricist, as he plays around with different sounds, rapping about various life issues. From the cover of the first mixtape “This Style Aint Free”, he raps about heaven and hell as depicted on the bible with the gun on it(representing all the violence in the world). The second mixtape “Óne Pain’’ cover depicts all the pain he has been through amongst other types of pain, as shown with the image of a woman in pain on one of the handcuffs with the Eye of Horus on the other one. In the track ‘This Style Aint Free’ he raps about his rise to fame saying his style didn’t come for free. He then goes on to talk about the human nation under God’s protection in the track ‘Únder God’. He then moves on to talk about a real-life situation that he went through and how God took him out of it in the track ‘’Drowning in Hell’. Other tracks on the mixtape are “Purple Skies”,” J. Love”,” Hell of A Night” which talks about the party life, facing the devil and the sexual encounters he’s had with various women, “By Any Means”, “Drip/Backstage Show”,” E.M.T(Enter My Throne)”,” On My Level” and “Prodigy”. On his second mixtape- “One Pain”, one song that got my attention is “Nevertheless (When G’s Cry)” which talks about his unconditional love for his mother, as well as a tribute to all the fallen gangsters in the world. Other tracks include “Pastor K”, “Onyx”,” Announcement”, “Everyday Tings”, “Now Back to The Tape” and “In My Shoes”.
