01 Creative Expression Centre (Year 3, Sem 6, 2018/19)

Public spaces provided within the urban context serves as a space where the communty is able to gather and connect. Be it the audience or the performer, the proposed design of Creative Expression Centre, aims not only for the purpose of gathering and connecting, but also for the user to be able to freely express and experience different forms of art.

The project proposed is ‘Creative Expression Centre’, a community centre for the occupantsto express themselves through different form of arts, physical - public speaking, singing, music - and through media- drawing, painting and through graphic art.

The initial idea was to have the building in a simple geometry block following the shape of the site.

Concept Idea Think Inside the Box With so often the word, ‘Think outside the box is used to describe creativity but mostly if given no direction and only and ending, anyone would become stuck. often times, creativity should be explained in through its counterpart ’Think inside the box’. It is best to produce creativity by giving them constraint. In this theme, by giving a theme, direction , which is their constraint. In my design, the visible spaces are their ‘boxes’ where they can express their creativity through a controlled environment

The building is then pushed to the sides to maximize the biggest area at the center to be used as an open plaza / gathering plaza which is the main space.

Precedent Study Constructivist Architecture

This type of architecture is born through the combination of conceptual design and geometric aesthetics. Constructivist architecture was a boundary-pushing thought which challenges traditional design aesthetics, ideas and notions on how to live. This type of architecture uses bold geometric shape to make an impact.

The building is then separated into two major blocks for open public spaces (cafe, Creative Arts market, common room) and closed public spaces (Gallery, Performance space) which is accesible from the open plaza.

Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU / Steven Holl Architects The building is separated with different blocks on the lower floors where it would later be connected on the topmost floor, the circular block. The seperated blocks divides the function of the building on the topmost floor, this is where it all meets.

Palace of Schoolchildren / Studio 44 Architects Erected between two main roads with two main entrance from opposite sides, the building also serves different forms of arts. the spaces provided are galleries, performance space as well as a souvenir shop.

Another block is the erected above the two blocks across one another. The block is an open hall used for activities, classes, exhibitions and other functions. The block also double as a viewing tower, looking over the whole Kota Tinggi.

02 VANS Larkin Skate Center (Year 3, Sem 5, 2018/19)

VANS Larkin Skate Centre is a youth recreational centre which focuses on recreational activity mainly with wheels, such as skateboards, rollerblading, bicycles and scooters. It is aimed to be able to cater a large number of crowd as well as a safe space for the community.

The project proposed is a skate centre dedicated towards the extreme sport enthusiasts as well as getting it known in a more public light. The main reason in deciding for the skate centre is due to the lack of place for artivities; young and old alike. The other reason being extreme sports is rising in popularity and is more well known now then before.

The integrated recreational centre aims to serve the public for leisure activities especially for users who are from Larkin as well as those who comes to Larkin.

Safe Haven Meaning ‘a place of refuge or security’. The idea is to provide a safe environment for the extreme sports enthusiasts to have fun in a bigger setting without prejudice. The idea is by proposing a building entirely for them.

Mass is created to determine possible areas for space placement.

Mass is seperatedinto two blocks avoiding a rigid design and allowing a more open environment. A bridge is created to connect the two blocks (upper floors).

Two blocks are resizedto fit the building programme intergrated in the design. Bridge on first floor resized to create an open plaza on ground floor.

Mass is angled at 30 degrees outwards allowing a more dynamic design.

An indoor skate park provided which is much more open to the environment and allows daylight to enter the building. the obstacle placement is friendly as the more extreme obstacles are placed further from the audience.

50Hertz Headquater Berlin

Oslo skatehall is one of its kind as it provides a skate bowl made out of timber which not only serves as an entertainment for skaters but also provide an easthetically pleasing view.

The play on slanted column on the exterior of the building provides a beautiful and structural facade which also provides a columnless space within its interior.

Visibility means ‘the state of being able to see or be seen’ and the element of the concept brought into the design is when entering the building, spaces up until the top becomes visible from below and vice versa. Though some spaces are visible from certain views.

Within this context too, seperation between private and public spaces are mostly divided by walls and windows though the levels have been specified for its usage and privacy.

A Southern Chapter Office in Johor Bahru is to be designed to house Southern Chapter Members’ Service Centre, Administration office, mini Conference Centre and Training Centre for the future of architects particularly in the southern state of Malaysia. The building’s linear design as well as the usage of raw material is what I have followed in creating my design. As well as the usage of louvres in several parts of the building allowing air to pass through the buildings mainly in open spaces.

Desa Mahkota School The buildings is purposedly facing north and south as to avoid the morning and afternoon sun the existence of fins and overhangs functions to decrease the sun’s glare and solar heat gain. The classroom are also lined in a single row in which the elements I have taken to be included in my design.

05 Pagar Residence (Year 2, Sem 3, 2017/18)

The KALAM International Residence is proposed to accommodate overseas students who finds interest in studying about the Malay World through its architecture, culture, community as well as heritage.

Project Brief KALAM CENTRE was set up in June 1996 on the foundation of numerous intricate measured drawing works done by the students of the Department of Architecture out of concern for the rapid disintregation and elimination of Malaysia’s architectural heritage.

The KALAM International Residence is proposed on the basis of accommodating overseas students who finds interest to study what is studied by KALAM;

Concept Idea Buah Cempedak Diluar Pagar, Ambil Galah Tolong Jolokkan, Saya Budak Baru Belajar, Kalau Salah Tolong Tunjukkan.

The representation of the malay poem comes from the existing cempedak tree at the proposed site. The cempedak tree sits outside the ‘Pagar’; the proposed building.

The last two lines of the poem represents the residents who have keen interest to study about the Malay World.

Sepang House The play of two axial lines are used to differentiate the spaces as to separate two spaces according to its usage -Social and Private- as also taking site analysis and context to be implemented in the final design.

The Sepang House building plan plays with axis and the form of the building, Its tilted columns are eye-catching and makes the building look more interesting.

Bondy Social Housing The spaces are then separated by connecting bridges between private and public spaces which also creates a void between said spaces.

The Social Housing gives off a simple look vut what makes it interesting is the movable trellis which is placed at the balcony of each housing that is able to provide privacy to its residents.

Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup Sculpture project. The first 3D project made with a partner entitled, ‘Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup’, a famous popular Malaysian Folklore. What we did was depict a famous scene from the story, the part where the two children’s mother gets eaten by a huge rock.
