MANIFESTO As a student who is accustomed to thinking ecologically. My projects are to make the landscape more sustainable and be able to show strong adaptability to future crises and current crises. I would like to use the landscape to protect the local ecology and wildlife diversity as much as possible. This collection of works will introduce four projects. JAKARTA FLOATING SPACE As the climate changes, the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta, is now facing the threat of the inundation of cities with rising sea levels.

Based on this background, we hope to create an infinitely expandable floating space and make it become a shelter for homeless people. In addition, by transforming and changing the basic modules, it can also have the functions of regenerating the local ecology and recycling marine garbage. As well as providing a considerable number of jobs for homeless people.

SEA LEVEL RISING OF JAKARTA Jakarta, is the fastest sinking city in the world. Most of the land to the north will be lost.

The subsidence of the ground is exacerbating this change due to excessive drilling for water. Jakarta has the most population in Indonesia with more than 14 million people.

This means that there would be more than 3 million people lost their home due to sea level rising

River dadap brings the most number of trash into the ocean. Trash and waste is the most serious environmental issue of Jakarta. Every year, there are tons of trash flows into the Java sea, which contains 78% plastics waste in percentage. It means that the eight rivers bring 26 tons of plastics waste to the ocean each year.

Jakarta is currently facing a serious pollution problem, that is, water pollution mainly caused by garbage pollution. The eight rivers that flow into the Java Sea are all polluted to varying degrees.

Residents dump garbage into the rivers and then into the sea.

Based on the preliminary analysis, we selected river dapdap as the design site, which is the most polluted river. We hope to minimize the amount of garbage flowing into the sea through design.

Indonesia has the largest archipelago in the world, which can form powerful ocean currents that move between thousands of islands. So this country is rich in ecological resources and can be used as an ideal place for tidal energy. Besides, Indonesia has the largest area of mangrove forests in the world, but studies have shown that the area of mangroves is currently being greatly reduced.

CIRCULAR SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROCESS SYSTEM STRATEGY

According to the local site conditions, we wish to recycle the waste like plastic, that has drifted from Jakarta. Then use some technique for secondary processing to make it become the original material of our floating modules. Because there is an existing original mangrove belt in the south of the site, our restoration system used a kind of device called ‘TetraPOT’ to cultivate mangrove, which has been tested in the world. Link our floating modules with the original forest through the cultivated mangrove forest. So that they can become the nature reserve park for the floating system.

NEWARTER RIVERSIDE PARK The waterfront town of Newark in the United Kingdom is often affected by flooding, resulting in low land utilization. The large lawn near the river embankment cannot keep the ecological diversity. In order to make full use of this grassland, I plan to transform it into a resilient and sustainable open park.

The park will have different landscape during flooding or droughts, which can provide surrounding residents with a place to play and gather.

The small town Newark-On-Trent in the United Kingdom is affected by floods every year. So the green space opposite the town’s castle has almost been discarded. My purpose is to redesign this green space and make it become a resilient and sustainable landscape park so that citizens come back again.

RUILI PANGOLIN RESERVE Pangolins are one of the most smuggled wild animals in the world. When pangolins are considered as the most likely intermediate host of the Covid-19, the conflict between the wildlife and the city once again becomes the issue.

At this project, we will research pangolins as our object to establish an area of interest to explore the possible coexistence between humans and animals.

DESIGN EFFECT To view the timed pangolins, our observation structure uses unidirectional glass so that people can observe and research pangolins closely under low interference.

Underground observation sites are mainly placed near the vicinity of the white nest because termites are the main food sources of pangolin species.

WINTER BOTANICAL GARDEN Winter could be the unique season for many plants to show their beauty. Not only the bloom but also their ornamental barks or leave. So I want to focus on getting winter color plants together from sunny to shade to create a unique winter park. Moreover, I want to provide a half-open place for visitors to nature in winter. Have a snow fight, built a snowman, or just take a photo among the trees.

This is a garden that has green during the year and shows the different winter.

The winter can engage people to go outside and explore nature.

The site is located in the middle of two residential areas and is an abandoned fire station. It is close to the elementary school, and there is a lack of green space around it. I plan to transform it into an educational winter botanical garden, and change the building into a casual cafe so that the surrounding residents and students can gather together and appreciate the wonderful natural beauty.

Zone 1 mainly focuses on the transition of vegetation from full sun to partial shade. I tried to use a hedge to divide space and block.

Three layers from low to high. People sitting inside the cafe would not be disturbed by the playing area in zone 2. Some evergreen ornamental grass could also build layers.

Most of the plants are evergreen with nice flowers in summer or autumn. Moreover, the color could also be different in winter based on foliage or the structure.

I used plants as hedges along the path and split some of them to build the path. Basically, the functions of hedges here are leading and block the view. Try to lead people from the ‘sunny’ area to the ‘half-shade’ area and to divide the space into two zones.

PLANT CHOOSE FOR WOODLAND ZONE

Another area is the pure woodland ground with lower shrubs and small trees. Although some of them are not evergreen vegetation. They still have the bark interest or structure interest in winter like Prunus serrula. Some plants would open flower in winter which brings soft line and make a contrast with a hard structure.

Visitors can walk through the trees freely and take photos whatever they want.

This is produced from one of the university’s modules, which aims to vibrant the brownfield by creating an entity model. I named this project "Beyond Boundaries". The vision is that this site can become a public space with considerable openness, allowing anyone to circulate in it. It can break the barriers between the different hierarchies of residents and communicate freely with each other. At the same time, The local terrain goes from high to low from north to south, accompanied by waterfront characteristc. The site creates a variety of different experience spaces.
