Walthamstow Hall BOOM - Issue 4 2021-2022

Page 1

Welcome to this fourth edition of Boom.

It seems appropriate to be writing this introduction just as England’s World Cup-winning Lionesses are named BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year 2022. I recall our very own lionesses (and hyenas, meerkats and elephants amongst others) from the summer’s glorious production of The Lion King.

As one parent put it: “We loved everyone’s performances, from Reception, who stole our collective hearts, to the courageous Year 6s who delivered their lines and songs perfectly with great emotion.”

A veritable triumph, which sums up the collaboration, teamwork and sheer delight of the Junior School’s academic year 2021- 2022.

I very much hope you will enjoy recollecting many happy occasions as you read through the highlights.

Pupils learnt about the significance of dragons in ancient Chinese culture. This was a starting point for some descriptive writing:

– THE –SHANG DYNASTY

“The Chinese Dragon is as colourful as an astonishing rainbow. It has a long body and normally has no legs, but if it does, they are quite stubby. The spikes on its back aren’t meant to harm anyone but they are there to scare its enemies if it has a battle.” MARIA

“The Chinese Dragon represents peace and kindness. It’s very wise and does have a long multi-coloured beard. The Chinese Dragon is as tough as an elephant and as gentle as a seed from an old dandelion touching your cheek.” COCO
