“Oasis in Time” Last year’s choice of moving to the US came to influence this exhibit in som unexpected ways. Living in a country characterized by political divisiveness and dramatic news could easily have inspired me to political satire and allegory, but instead I found myself being drawn into a symbolist “Oasis in Time”.

Perhaps it was the rolling, beautiful pastoral nature here, or that I found myself tuning into the collective unconscious of the indigenous natives and shamans that walked the land here many years ago. Or simply that living in a day and age where we are buffeted by a plethora of opinions, volatile emotions and dubious technological advances that can feel like something out of a crazy sci-fi movie, that there is a need to transport ourselves back in time to recapture a tranquility, a sense of quietude for reflection and contemplation and a means to more deeply reconnect with nature.

An oasis or safe space for contemplation, allows us to momentarily slow down in the hectic pace of the modern world and consider - What does it mean to be human? What is progress in today’s world? What sort of future would we like to create for ourselves?

And what do we really value? These are questions that Shamans and mystics have always asked, wether their origins were from Nordic or Celtic paganism, early Christian Mystics or Native Americans who were faced with dramtic changes to their cultures.

These works are an invitation to reawaken to the magic gift of life in the midst of chaos and change. They are a portal into the timelessness of human consciousness, where we simply bear witness to the shaman, the dryad, sages of the orient and the transformative possibilities within us all.
