Look inside for the Wallace State Community College Fine and Performing Arts performance schedule for the 2025-2026 season, meet the students and staff, and learn about the performing arts ensembles.

Dear Friends,
On behalf of our Wallace State faculty, staff and the Fine and Performing Arts programs, I would like to welcome you to our performances this season, showcasing our talented students.
Wallace State is committed to serving as the center for the arts and for arts education in our community and, indeed, the region. We offer outstanding programs in music, theatre, dance and visual arts. College-level, dual enrollment, and continuing education classes are available, as well as workshops for elementary and middle school students.

Additionally, The Evelyn Burrow Museum, a museum of fine and decorative arts, with an exquisite permanent collection and a regular rotation of nationally-renowned visiting exhibitions, welcomes visitors free of charge. Wallace State is also one of a select group of institutions around the world to be designated an All-Steinway School, and a chosen location for Congressional Art Competitions.
Thank you very much for your presence and support of the arts. We wish you a wonderful experience and we look forward to seeing you at future performances.
Warm wishes,
Vicki P. Karolewics, Ed.D. President
Welcome and thank you for your attendance and support of our fine arts programs here at Wallace State Community College. Whether this is your first performance or you are a regular supporter, we know you will enjoy this performance. Our students put tremendous work and time into each performance, and we are proud to give them the opportunity to showcase their talents for you. Unless you have been a performer, you may not realize just how many hours students have put into these performances in class, in rehearsals, and after hours practicing together and on their own. They put significant effort into these shows, and we are delighted when we get to finally share them with audiences.

Our program prepares students to be professionals and to be good and valuable human beings. Whether they take the education, performance skills, teamwork, and work ethic they have learned here to the big stage or to further their education in the performing arts or another field at a university, their experiences at Wallace State will serve them well. Our alumni are working actors, singers, musicians, dancers, teachers, and more, but they are also culturally educated, well-rounded business and industry professionals working in virtually every field. Education in the arts truly is education for life.
We thank you tremendously for all your support and hope that you truly enjoy the show!

A versatile musician with training in both jazz and classical idioms, Ricky Burks earned his B.S. in Music Education from the University of North Alabama in 1990 and his M.A. from the University of North Alabama in 2000. Mr. Burks has utilized his performing skills with a number of ensembles, including groups such as the Edd Jones Orchestra, the Muscle Shoals Area Big Band, the Sammy Kaye Orchestra, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Steel City Sound, the Russ Morgan Orchestra, and Alabama Pipe and Drum. He was also a founding member of the Night Life Saxophone Quartet, which has been featured on National Public Radio. In addition, he has served as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Southeast. Mr. Burks directs the Jazz Band and Saxophone Ensemble at Wallace State, where he has been employed since 1990 as woodwind instructor and director of bands. Currently, Mr. Burks serves as the Chairperson of the Fine and Performing Arts at Wallace State Community College.

Tahauny Cleghorn is the Resident Choreographer at Wallace State, working with the Wallace State Singers, theatre department, and directing the Wallace State Pride Line. Tahauny is a Wallace State Fine Arts alum and after earning her Associates degree, she earned her BFA in musical theatre from the University of Montevallo. While at Montevallo she had the opportunity to perform, choreograph, and assistant direct both department and student led productions, and upon graduation she received the Trumbauer Award for Excellence in Theatre from the UM theatre faculty and staff.
Ms. Cleghorn has since been active in the arts scene all over Alabama as a performer, choreographer, intimacy director, and teacher, working at Red Mountain Theatre, Virginia Samford Theatre, Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Terrific New Theatre, ArtPlay UAB, and Theatre Downtown. However, she has most often been seen on the Next Great Americans tour with the Liberty Learning Foundation, playing Libby Liberty for elementary schoolers all around the southeast. She served for four years as Creative Director of River City Performing Arts, and served as a freelance choreographer for the Wallace State Singers and a guest artist with Wallace State Theatre before coming to work at Wallace State full-time.
Some recent highlights include appearing as Jean Louise in the Virginia Samford Theatre’s production of To Kill A Mockingbird, choreographing Sunday in the Park With George at Terrific New Theatre to open their brand new theatre space, and the premiere of her original dance work “Sixteen Tons: The Women of Sloss Furnace” with Gradient Dance Theatre on location at Sloss Furnace in Birmingham.

Brooke Desnoës is one of the most gifted teaching artists of her generation, with over 20 years of experience at the international level. Her pre-professional training program opens the doors to successful professional careers for her students. Mrs. Desnoës trains her students “from the inside out” and provides them with an educational experience of the highest caliber.
Mrs. Desnoës received her early dance training in her native Alabama and went on to dance with ballet companies across the Southeast and in Europe. She has danced a varied repertoire including leading roles in many classic ballets such as “Sleeping Beauty,” “Cinderella,” “Paquita,” and “Romeo and Juliet,” as well as works by contemporary choreographers. After a period of teaching at The Washington School of Ballet in Washington D.C., under the direction of Mary Day, Mrs. Desnoës founded L’Académie Américaine de Danse de Paris (AADP) which grew to become one of the largest and most reputable ballet schools in Europe under her direction.

Angela Green holds an MFA in Acting from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a BS in Theatre with Speech and Dance minors from Troy University. This year marks her 25th in education.
Before joining the faculty at Wallace, she served as the movement coach, resident choreographer, costumer, and an instructor of theatre at Calhoun Community College. In addition to teaching at Calhoun, she simultaneously taught theatre at Randolph School in Huntsville where she was the head of the middle school theatre program. Ms. Green was a tenured member of the faculty at The University of North Alabama from 2000-2008, where she taught theatre, dance, communication skills, and was the sponsor for the Lion Paws dance team.
Ms. Green has acted professionally with Birmingham Children’s Theatre, North Carolina Theatre for Young People, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, and The Clarence Brown Theatre at The University of Tennessee. She has also appeared in numerous community productions in North Carolina and Alabama. She has choreographed for high school, college, and community theatre productions and middle, high school, and college show choirs. She and her husband Patrick live in Huntsville and have a 14-year-old daughter named Daisy.
