How To Establish A Diverse Team That Performs Better?

While DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) in the workplace has been shown to have been widely adopted since the past decade, it has been around for quite a long time now. To be precise, DEI has been around since more than five decades now, when workplace diversity training first emerged in the mid1960s! These training sessions brought about a change in the traditional racial discrimination policies, and helped employees of different races and cultures work together, adjusting to working in more integrated offices. Yet, these DEI training programs struggled to yield substantial improvement, until recently in the past decade, when gender, race, religion, culture, and region began to become “not-so-important” while recruiting.

What is diversity in the workplace? Diversity in the workplace is still perceived differently by different companies. So, when it is said to find candidates considering a diverse team, one needs to confirm as to what exactly is meant by “diversity”. Is the diverse team a mix of males and females? Is the diverse team a mix of different castes? Is the diverse team a mix of different religions and cultures? Diversity for a team could mean anything.
