HISD hosts Final Centralized Student Registration Events
By Wade Thibodeaux Huntsville ISD will host a final round of New Student Registration opportunities at the end of this month. These student registration dates will be held on Tuesday, July 27 from 10 AM to 7 PM and on Saturday, July 31 from 8 AM to 12 PM* in the Library of Huntsville High School located at 515 FM

HISD Board Approves Administrative Hires for Scott Johnson Elementary & DAEP
The Huntsville ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the recommendations for hire presented by Superintendent Dr. Scott Sheppard during their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, July 15, 2021, which included two internal administrative promotions. Mrs. Jennifer Barnes was approved as the new Principal of Scott Johnson Elementary where she is currently the Assistant Principal. Barnes will fill the vacancy created by Mrs. Shannon Williams who was
recently named Principal of Estella Stewart Elementary. Mr. Chris White was approved as the new Director of the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). White is currently an Assistant Principal at Mance Park Middle School. He will move to the Westmoreland Learning Center to fill the vacancy created by the recent retirement of longtime veteran educator Mr. Robert Bennett. With more than 17 years in education, Mrs. Jennifer Barnes has a
strong desire to help all students reach their full potential. As the school’s Assistant Principal since 2017, she has developed a special bond and passion for the students, staff and parents at Scott Johnson Elementary. She is a calm and confident leader who has built an excellent rapport with the campus staff and families alike. She has valuable experience in curriculum and program development, strategic planning and school improvement as well as student discipline and
positive behavior systems. She has first-hand working knowledge and expertise of the daily campus operations that will be extremely beneficial in her new role. As an established and proven leader at Scott Johnson, her dedication to students’ well-being and academic success makes her the perfect choice to take the reins and continue leading the great work that’s been happening on the campus for many years. Barnes’ professional experience includes several years as a classroom teacher and serving as the district’s lead art teacher before joining administration. Mr. Chris White joined Huntsville ISD in 2019, and has been serving the past two years as an Assistant Principal at Mance Park Middle School.
