HISD Bond Election Update Walker County Covid Vaccination Plan Discussed By Wade Thibodeaux   Huntsville ISD Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting tonight on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 6:00 pm. in the Hawkins Administration Building with only one item requiring board action on the agenda. That item is the approval of an order calling for a special election on May 1, 2021. All indications are that the trustees will

approve the item calling for an election and the main discussion will probably be centered around how many different options will be available to the voters. The numbers that have been tossed around are $92 Million and then another $35 Million for the athletic complex that was recently added to the long range plan for the District for a total of $127 Million.

Huntsville High School was placed on lockdown status last Friday afternoon due to a possible intruder and some of the extracurricular activities, including the home basketball game had to be rescheduled. HISD released the following news release pertaining to the issue.  Huntsville High School was temporarily placed on Lockdown status today following afterschool dismissal in response to a student report of a possible male intruder on campus. The campus was immediately placed on “Lockdown” to se-

cure all the students and staff who were still inside the building at the time since there were tutorials and athletic events taking place across the campus. The Huntsville Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies immediately responded and secured the campus. After conducting a thorough search of the entire building, it was discovered that the report was a false alarm. Huntsville ISD appreciates our local law enforcement agencies who responded so quickly and we are thankful for today’s safe outcome. We

applaud the student who alerted administration to help ensure everyone’s safety. Once again we must remind everyone that we ALL play a critical role in helping keep our schools safe environments for all. The safety of our students and staff will always be our highest priority and we will always err on the side of caution. Please continue to report anything concerning or suspicious as soon as possible. We also want to thank everyone impacted by this lockdown for their patience and cooperation as the situation was resolved.

By Wade Thibodeaux  The Walker County Commissioners Court met in regular session last Monday, February 1, 2021 at 9:00 am. in room 104 of the Walker County Courthouse. One of

hub had been developed and submitted, but had not yet been approved. The plan, once approved, would provide for a drive thru vaccination hub located at the (contd on page 9)
