ET. WOODS - DAY
Dead by Ten
Written
by Emily KalosiehLong shot of a group of five people running in the woods away from zombies.
Quinn, 20's, turns to the rest of the group and yells:
QUINN
Just a little more running guys, there's a barn up ahead!!
Kate, 33, holding Sofia, 10, and running.
Zombie grabs Kate's leg and both of them fall. They fall backwards, Sofia falls out of her arms closer to the zombie and gets knocked out.
ROSE
Kate!!!
Rose, 23, turns back at them and stops Bruce so he can help them.
Bruce, 23, shoots the zombie. Quinn picks up Sofia and helps Kate stand.
QUINN
Can you walk?
Kate nods and they both run to the barn.
Cut to the five of them pushing open the barn door and running inside.
INT. BARN - DAY
Rose pushes a haystack against the door, growling can

Bruce tosses his shotgun and his handgun aside.
QUINN
Is everyone ok??
Kate nods and sees Sofia, still knocked out.
Cut to a close-up of Sofia's face, her forehead bleeding. Sofia!!
! KATE 2.
Kate runs to them and takes Sofia from Quinn, laying her on a pile of hay.
Quinn kneels down, and checks her pulse, he sighs in relief.
QUINN
She's alive..
Kate kneels next to Quinn there are tears in her eyes and her hands are in a praying position up to her mouth. Quinn notices a red stain on Sofia's jacket sleeve.
QUINN
She's bleeding! Rose, get me the First aid kit!!
Rose digs in a worn-down backpack, she gets the first aid kit and tosses it to Quinn.
Quin takes off Sofia's jacket as she's talking.
QUINN
Don't worry Kate it doesn't look like the wound is that...
Close up to Sofia's arm, there is a big, bloody, bite mark on her wrist.
Kate's eyes widen and she screams.
Kate's screams are heard for the rest of the group's reaction.
Quinn's eyes are wide, he is horrified, and his
breathing gets heavier.
Rose covers her mouth and steps back, her eyes filled with tears as she looks to the rest of the group.
Bruce looks down and shakes his head.
Kate picked up Sofia and hugs her, sobbing loudly BRUCE Don't touch it!
Quinn punches Bruce's arm
BRUCE
We have ten minutes before its turns we have to
KATE Don't call my daughter 'it'!!! 3.
QUINN Bruce. Shut up!
BRUCE
We had an agreement if one of us gets bitten, we shoot them!
KATE
You stay the hell away from my daughter!
QUINN
Rose, get Kate upstairs.
Rose nods and helps Kate stand up, they both walk upstairs
BRUCE
What the hell are you doing?? Do you have any idea how dangerous that thing is?!
Quinn punches Bruce
QUINN
What the hell are you talking about?! Sofia is ten!! Do you hear me?! She is a ten-year-old girl- We are not shooting a ten-year-old!!!
Bruce's face is turned from getting hit, he's holding the side of his face as he turns to look at Quinn with dark eyes
BRUCE
You, son of a...
Bruce jumps on top of Quinn, punching him
Cut to Rose, Kate, and Sofia upstairs
KATE
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...
She keeps repeating the phrase, stroking Sofia's hair Rose is sitting close to Kate rubbing her back
ROSE
It's not your fault...
KATE
I dropped her...I can't believe I dropped her...
ROSE
Kate...you fell, you had no control over it..!
Kate shook her head. We hear a loud thud.
ROSE
Oh god- I'll go check...stay here!
Kate nods and we follow Rose as she runs downstairs. Bruce and Quinn are fighting, Bruce has the upper hand.
HeyHEY!! ROSE
Rose runs over to them and kicks Bruce off of Quinn ROSE
Are you two seriously fighting
now?!?!
Quinn sits up, his face is bruised and bleeding slighting
QUINN
I wouldn't have started anything...if that maniac didn't suggest we shoot at a ten-year old...
Rose turned to Bruce walking up to him
ROSE
You...you seriously think we're going to kill Sofia?!
Bruce stands up wiping the small amount of blood from his lip BRUCE
Sofia died the second she got bit, I'm just trying to protect the rest of us!
ROSE
She got bit two minutes ago, We can't just kill her
Bruce cuts her off
BRUCE
So you rather we set her free?? So she can kill other kids??
BRUCE (CONT'D)
We have 8 minutes! Would you rather I shoot her after she's eaten her mother's arm??
Shut up!!!
QUINN ROSE
We're not just killing her!!
Both Quinn and Rose are crying now BRUCE
You're all insane! I'm taking care of this!
Bruce goes to his backpack and takes out a gun
ROSE
No!!
QUINN
Bruce stop it!!
Bruce pushed them to the side, Rose hits a beam and slumps down, a red spot where she hit her head can be seen
QUINN Kate, get out of here!!
Cut to Kate. She looks up and runs to the other side of the room still holding Sofia as Bruce gets upstairs.
KATE
Bruce, please don't do this!!
Kate's crying as she backing up into the window Bruce pumps the shotgun and aims it at Sofia
Kate closes her eyes and holds Sofia tighter Quinn runs up behind Bruce and grabs the gun pulling it up so Bruce fired at the sky, there are tears in his eyes as he yells
QUINN
Run!!!!
Kate opened her eyes and sprinted downstairs and hid behind more haystacks, her eyes darting to Bruce's handgun. 6.
Back upstairs Quinn and Bruce are fighting with the gun.
QUINN Bruce, this is insane!! You have to stop this!!
Bruce yells and pushes Quinn out a window, the window shatters and we cut to an above shot of Quinn falling into a metal feeding tub, a pool of blood leaks from his head.
Cut back to Bruce inside.
BRUCE
And all because of you... Bruce walks downstairs slowly looking around the room
BRUCE
You know that you'll have to kill her Kate if you just let me do it... they'd still be alive
Cut to Rose and Quinn's faces when he says "they'd still be alive".
BRUCE Now...if you just give me it, you won't have to go with her
Cut to a close-up of Kate's hand, holding Bruce's handgun.
BRUCE
It's the only way...
Kate stands up and fires Bruce's gun right in his head.
Bruce falls forward, the camera pans down to see his body, pool of blood forms around his head
Kate leaves behind the haystack. She's breathing heavily, she drops the gun and falls to her knees, she looks around at the room and back down at Sofia, and then closes her eyes.
Zoom in on her closed eyes. We hear growling. Kate's eyes open wide, her pupils dilated.
