Yoga: Not Just a Body Thing

very Friday during the month of September students gathered around the pond to do yoga led by Professor Heather Yeoman. Yeoman instructed the students into downward dog, tree and the Waldorf University favorite, the Warrior Pose.

By reducing stress the body can better sleep. For someone who deals with stress induced insomnia yoga can help them in a very real way. There are even benefits for people who struggle with anxiety and depression. By ways of breathing and focusing on breathing it’s easier to let things go and forget, for a while at least, about what’s causing the anxiety and depression.

Yoga has been known to help the body in many ways. It can help increase flexibility, tone and strengthen muscle, as well as improving respiration, energy and vitality. In a lot of ways it can prevent the dreaded freshman 15 and for athletes it can improve athletic performance and will help protect the body from injury.

Yoga helps with a lot more than just Students Practicing the Warrior Pose. improving your body though. Arguably the best benefits from yoga are the various mental benefits. It can help students to manage stress in a better way which is great because stress is known to have awful effects on the body and the mind. A big part of yoga is meditation and breathing. These can create mental clarity and calmness, help relax the body, and even sharpen concentration so students can focus better during classes.

One of the worst things here at Waldorf is when one person gets sick, everyone around them gets sick as well, but yoga can help boost immunity. This is especially 3

Some soon-to-be students can find themselves thinking about what all is needed when that first day of moving onto campus comes. They might find themselves wondering what they need and don’t need to bring or what they can do to help make this day easier and less stressful. Fortunately, through this article will provide ten tips of how to make your move-in day the best it can possibly be.

1. First, the Paperwor It is always best to review your paperwork that the college has sent you. This paperwork can normally give you information on move-in dates and times. Sometimes these things can vary whether you are in sports, theatre, choir or other activities.

Usually the students who are involved in sports or fine arts move in earlier than others so it is important to not show up too early or even too late. It is also important to know whether you are supposed to do more paperwork once you arrive to campus before moving your stuff into your dorm. Going over your paperwork will not only make you more knowledgeable but it will also help reduce the stress of move-in day.

2. How are You Getting to Campus?

Moving to college isn’t always the easiest for some students. Some may live thousands of miles away and some may only live 30 minutes away. For those who live thousands of miles away, they might have to plan accordingly due to the long trip. Packing normally becomes a large issue for these students because they can only bring a limited amount of luggage onto a plane. They can’t bring along a futon or their favorite recliner like some of the students bring who live closer to campus. Claudio Moares da Cruz is a great example because he is from Sao Paulo, Brazil. “I was only able to take two bags of luggage,” Cruz says, “and I had to buy everything else once I got here.” When traveling far, like Cruz did, make sure to pack the essentials. Now, if you do live close enough to make your trip a drive then the amount of luggage depends on what vehicle you decide to take to campus, that is, if you have a vehicle to take.

3. Move-in Day Can be Long Move-in day isn’t always the easiest and can be exhausting for some students. Getting all the paperwork done as well as dealing with parents trying to arrange your room for you because they don’t want to leave you at college yet can make it a tough day but don’t let that first day ruin your excitement for that next step in your life. Don’t be afraid to bring snacks and drinks to keep your body fueled throughout the day. Also keep in mind to wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty because move-in day always seems to get messy somehow when moving your luggage from your home to the dorm. Making back and forth trips that can

not only be dirty but tiring too. Another tip is to not bring your whole family but maybe a couple of them because it can get crowded. Remember you’re not the only one moving in on this day. Hallways can get crowded and having your whole family with you on move-in day can cause more stress than what is wanted. If you are wanting to show your family around campus, wait until later in the semester when you know the campus better and can give them a better tour.

4. Preparation Preparation is key when move-in day comes around. It can make your day much easier by making everything move smoothly. Make sure to communicate with your roommate ahead of time to see what you are both bringing to your dorm room. Doing this can determine what all you may need to bring and also what you won’t need to bring because your roommate may be willing to bring that same item that he/she is willing to share with you. Also, purchasing

the essentials before-hand, rather than on move-in day, can make things easier for you too. This can tie in with how you are getting to college as well. If you live so far away you need to take a plane then planning ahead buying a plane ticket early can not only save you money but a world of headaches too.

5. Hauling Luggage to Your Room When hauling your luggage from your vehicle to your room, less is normally better but if you do find yourself needing an excessive amount of items, then try your best to organize everything into as few bins as possible. You will realize how helpful this tip is once you reach move-in day and are done after three trips and others are still making trips even though they had gotten there before you. If condensing down your number of bins is unescapable then bringing along a cart to help haul several items at once. Sometimes, opening and closing your dorm door when moving in can be exhausting so bringing a small door stop can be helpful. When hauling all your luggage through doorways and halls, the last thing you want to do again and again is having to open your door when your hands are full.

6. Packing If you are not sure of what to pack then this is where you will find fun tips to make your move-in day experience easier. When packing, it is important to consider how often you will be able to go back home. If it is frequently then there is not a high need to bring all of your clothes in the fall. You can leave your winter clothes at home until temperatures begin to fall to where you need those winter clothes. When that time comes, it is as easy as swapping out your warmer weather wear for your winter wear. Now, if you are not able to go home frequently because you might live too far away, you might want to consider bringing as many clothes as you can. Also, a quick tip when packing your shirts; rather than taking your shirts off the hangers, you 6

can leave them on the hangers and wrap a trash bag around groups of them. This way they are stay clean and once you arrive to college you will be able to hang them up right away. If you’re not sure where to put the rest of your things then the best tip is to find or purchase sturdy bins that will hold several items at once. You can find them almost anywhere whether it is a local Walmart or online with Amazon.

7. Essentials Thinking about what you actually need to bring compared to the things that can be left at home can be difficult to decide if this is your first year of college.

Clothes are obviously important. When electronics come to mind though, the questioning can grow rapidly. Luckily, you have some great tips to read in this section. You will definitely want to consider bringing a power strip because most dorms only have a limited number of outlets.

Alarm clocks normally seem essential but now everyone has smart phones with alarm clocks already installed in them. Now, if you are a heavy sleeper and need something louder than a cell phone, then an actual alarm clock would be the best fit. TVs on the other hand can sometimes seem like they are essential to college life, but most college campuses and even dorms have TVs in the lobbies where you would normally have control of what channels to watch. Occasionally, a TV isn’t enough to keep you occupied during your free time so bringing a journal along could be a substitute essential for you. You will be able to express your thoughts and ideas in these and if you need to reflect on things, a journal is sometimes the best thing to read. Now for some students who decide to go to a larger college which is much larger than others, and if this is you, a bicycle might be the best essential. A bicycle will allow you travel faster from one end of campus to the other and can be fun at the same time. It sure beats walking to class every day and can become extremely handy if you are running late to class and need a quick way to get across campus.

8. What ISN’T Needed when Packing for College You may think that you need to bring everything of yours to college but less can mean better. Items such as yearbooks, collections, throw pillows (which are decorative pillows) and extra decorations such as Christmas trees or Halloween assortments are not necessary. What most students find out when moving into their dorms, is that they find that they brought too much stuff for a little space. When sticking to essentials and not bring the extra unneeded things you will have more room and less stress of constantly having to clean more than you should have to. If you are bringing DVDs however, you can still bring them but there is no need to bring all of those cases with you. A nice substitute to help condense that mountain of DVDs you may have is a CD holder where you can slide your DVD discs into the separate slots. This way you are saving space but still have all of your movies so you can enjoy some of that free time of yours.

10. Best for Last Behind all of the craziness of move-in day there is something to cherish within this one day. This is the first day of that next step in your life. This next step that will take you to places that you never thought you would have ever traveled before. This day is where it all starts so it is important you take a couple of steps back and treasure the moments within this day. This isn’t only a big day for you but an even bigger day for your parents who have been with you every step of the way. This is the day they leave their baby behind where you get to make your own life decisions

without them around. It’s also important to keep in mind to be respectful and nice to them because it isn’t the easiest for them either. Something to help you tell them how much you love them without the flooding tears is writing them a special note they can read on their way back home. This special note can be about anything but make sure to have something in there to tell them how thankful you are to have them along the way and to help raise you to the person you are today.

Chapel

Last year during chapel you’d hear music only every once in a while but now things have changed a lot, for the better!

T

his year chapel worship, which takes place every Wednesday starting at 10:30 am, has been taken over by a group of volunteers from the Waldorf Choir. Austin Lich, Hannah Apolinar, Jon Happel, Tim Davidson and Zach Feldt have worked hard to create a musical atmosphere for chapel every week and will from now on.

Dr. Umar, the new Chair of the Music Department, was the one who reimagined chapel into what it is now. “Chapel has changed into a place where everyone can come and just worship," Austin Lich, a senior drum player for chapel, said, “people really seem to like the changes and the recital hall has been filled every week since the changes have taken place.”

“I grew up in a Christian home and lost my faith a bit when I came to college.

But now, I have found a place to make my faith my own with people that feel the same.”

— Hannah Apolinar "We all come from different backgrounds and are there because we want to be, so it’s definitely going to be a journey and I’m really looking forward to where God takes us!" Senior Hannah Apolinar, one of the lead singers for chapel said.

After all the music is done there is always a short message and prayer. Depending on the week that could be praying over and blessing the hockey team to marching for various causes. Come check it out!

reshman Jacobi Popp was named Warrior of the Week for October 9-17 for being a great friend and helping with an incident in the Johnson and London Hall.

Popp helped a friend through a hard time, and back onto their feet. Freshman Bree Hamblin commented that “it didn’t matter who it was, a friend or a stranger, Popp would step in for anyone and help them.” Freshman Brynlee Gibbs added that “Popp is a genuinely good friend. She is the person people love to have around because she shows she cares about every single one of her friends' life.”

Popp was born in Sidney, Nebraska, a town of 6,800. She was born into a family of two older sisters, who she’s very close with, she also has two nephews and two nieces. At the age of 7, she then moved to Peetz, Colorado, a town of only 250 people for nine years. Popp then finished her junior and senior years of high school in Sidney.

Popp then moved to Takasaki, Japan with a very big different population of 370,884. She moved there as an exchange student for 10 months and lived with 5 host families. She had the opportunity to do this through Rotary International, an international service organization promoting peace and understanding between nations and cultures.

“It was really nice to have a different pace of life. I loved living in the big city. I felt like my host families really took me in as their daughter, and I consider them my family,” Popp said.

In Japan, Popp attended a Japanese high school, Kendai Takasaki, famous for their baseball team who almost always makes it to the national championship. At the school, Popp participated in calligraphy, art, P.E., cooking club, and assisted in teaching English.

“I had to teach myself Japanese, through textbooks and integration, because there wasn’t any classes for me to take. It was super difficult, and took 4 months before I could even have a real conversation. Before that, all I could say and ask for was the basic things, like “where’s the bathroom?” “I’m full, I can’t eat more.”

Even now, I’m only conversational, it takes years for people to become fluent.” Popp explained.

In high school, Popp took college classes and came to college with 23 credits, and is on track to graduate in just three years. Popp is attending Waldorf on the Women Warriors in Leadership (WWiL) scholarship and through that participates in Rotaract.

Rotaract helps out in the community with service projects such as helping out at the pumpkin patch or doing leadership program for high school freshman.

Coming to Waldorf, Popp has made very close friends with Hamblin and Gibbs. Hamblin and Popp met by having their dorms side by side, and spending late nights in the movie lounge, binge watching the Harry Potter series. “[I] think it’s super cool how we’ve only known each other for such a short amount of time, but we’re basically family already. Popp is very strong on her two feet, and takes care of herself. She inspires me to be independent on my own. She is someone people can look up too, and I trust her with everything,” Hamblin expressed.

Gibbs and Popp met through mutual friends and now work at the Hanson Family Life Center daycare together. “Popp is person you can just immediately click with. She’s easy to have conversation with, and has so much experience in life, her stories are fascinating. She’s lived in such different environments, she makes do with her surrounding and plays it to her advantage. She’s very friendly and I always catch her down in the lobby making new friends.”

Join forces TO PLAN HOMECOMING

CANDIDATE REVIEW STORY BY MADISON BEAUPRE

Waldorf ’s Homecoming “Candidate Review” is a fun-filled annual tradition where the king and queen candidates take the stage in an exciting game-showstyle event. The evening is complete with audience games and prizes, film clips of each candidate and mini-interviews led by emcees. It is an entertaining way for students to learn more about the candidates before voting, then celebrate the coronation of the winners by President Bob Alsop.

Perhaps the best part of the event, however, is the hands-on experience it provides to the five Waldorf Communications (COMM) classes that plan and produce the event from scratch: Public Relations Skills, Visual Theory, Publication Design, Mass Communication and Electronic Field Production. The COMM classes collaborate with the Social Warriors Activities Team (S.W.A.T) to create a campus-wide night of fun.

Students in Prof. Heather Yeoman’s Public Relations Skills class learn the basics of event planning by developing and coordinating the event logistics and theme. The class works as a team and in committees, including: marketing, decorations, sponsors, voting and scriptwriting.

The marketing committee promotes the event on social media and around the school. They created signs, save-the-date reminders, radio promotions, emails and social media posts.

The decorations committee decide on decorations to support the theme. The sponsor committee secures sponsors and gathers prize donations for the drawings at the event.

The voting committee handles how and where the electronic voting should take place. The scriptwriting committee plans what happens on stage and when, focusing on lighting cues, what the emcees say and what games for audience interaction.

Students in Prof. Mark Newcom’s Electronic Field Production (EFP) class plan shots, film and edit the candidate’s interviews, which are revealed as one-minute videos at the event. The main goal of the videos is to give the audience a better feel for who the candidates really are. The interviews include a few important aspects of the candidate's life, and show the candidate “in action,” in the classroom, in their sport or fine arts activities. EFP students spend hours in the Digital Arts Lab editing and putting together the videos, and the final product is always one of the most memorable things about the event.

Prof. Carlos Ruiz’s Visual Theory students develop a visual graphic/logo for the event. They plan their designs around the specific theme — this year’s theme was “Super Warriors.” The winning graphic is voted on by the Public Relations class, the COMM professors and S.W.A.T. Students in Prof. Tiffany Olson’s Publication Design are in charge of designing the main poster to promote Candidate Review. Students are given the theme and the graphic developed in Visual Theory to use in their designs; from there the students have full creative license to create and develop an idea for their final poster. Just like the Visual Theory graphic, the winning poster is selected in a voting process.

Prof. David Damm’s Newspaper Practicum class gets students involved in the event. They learn the basic skills of writing news stories and how to format them by covering the event for The Lobbyist.

Overall, this event is a great opportunity for handson experience in the communications field. Coming together to plan the Waldorf Homecoming Candidate Review is a great way for students to learn new skills, enjoy teamwork and participate in a school event.

Getting this real experience before graduating and stepping into the real world is something Waldorf University takes pride in providing to their students.

“The Odd The Waldorf University Theatre Department has run a variety of shows during the years, each one being unique and different from the rest, making audiences laugh, cry, and sing along. The opening show for this year’s theatre season was no different.

The Odd Couple tells the story of Oscar Madison (played by Nick Sanderson), an unorganized and messy individual and Felix Ungar, a neat-freak (played

by Chris Skipper). Madison had just recently divorced his wife three months prior, and as a result he has become a slob and has made his apartment a mess.

The show opens up with a game of poker being played by Madison as well as some of his friends: Murray, Speed, Roy and Vinnie. However, Oscar’s best friend Felix Ungar is unusually late to the game, and it is later determined that Felix and his wife divorced after 12 years of marriage, and Felix’s wife received a telegram from Felix threatening to kill himself. Oscar then suggests that Felix moves in with him. “The show as a whole is the best part, specifically getting laughs and having good chemistry on stage is a really fun thing when it happens,” said sophomore Nick Sanderson.

Tensions starts to build up between Oscar and Felix, until a date night with the Pigeon sisters Cecily and Gwendolyn goes horribly wrong, in which Oscar tells Felix that he is unwilling to change, and that if he so desires the apartment is for sure 12 stories high from the ground below.

The next day another poker game is about to begin when Oscar, still mad over how the previous night ended, demands that Felix move out. Felix returns and says that he’s moving in with the Pigeon sisters upstairs and shakes hands with Oscar, showing that he is indeed capable of changing.

Samuel French’s The Odd Couple is the same as Neil Simon’s play except: it’s the female version.

Olive Madison (played by Alexis Washington) is holding a game of Trivial Pursuit with Renee, Micky, Vera, and Sylvia. They begin to wonder where Florence Ungar (played by Emma Banner) is, and discover that Florence and her husband recently divorced, and not wanting Florence to hurt herself Olive invites her to live with her. After a date night with Jesus and Manolo goes terrible, Olive kicks Florence out, but all is well as Florence moves in with Jesus and Manolo in the end.

“The most challenging thing about rehearsals was having to keep a group of goofy girls on track,” said junior Alexis Washington.

In total there were 25 people involved with The Odd Couple, directed by Robert AuFrance, and Abbie Wells assistant directing. If you happened to miss the performances, the next show on the schedule is Othello and runs through Nov. 15-18. “The biggest reward is being able to get an opportunity to be on stage again. It’s always a joy,” said Washington.

Homecoming turns up the energy on campus each year. Student groups begin building the excitement a week before homecoming by competing in “Warrior Cup” to win money for their cause. Traditional events follow, such as reunions, banquets, the bonfire, the football game, crowning the King and Queen at “Candidate Review” and the Waldorf Wind Symphony and Choir concerts. But there’s a little gem hidden in the list of activities that seems to get overlooked, even though hours of preparation go into it — the Musical Theatre Showcase. usical Theatre Showcase is put on by students involved in the theatre and music departments, but anyone can audition for it. Past themes for Musical Theatre Showcase included “Seize the Day” with musical numbers from Newsies, Hamilton, Spring Awakening and more. This year’s performance didn’t have a theme. “I wanted a bigger range of songs, and it was a little difficult to stick with a theme last year,” said director and participant Abbie Wells, “All of the songs were fun and they fit the performer pretty well.”

For showcase this year, there were more group numbers as opposed to solos, which allowed more people to be involved. In total, 19 students helped put on the annual showcase with songs from West Side Story, Anastasia, Chicago, to name a few. The show ran two nights: October 22 at 2:30 pm and October 23 at 7:30 pm.

A lot of work went into putting on the show, with casting people, choosing songs and choreographing certain musical numbers. “Memorizing some of the pieces, even though some of them were very well-known, was pretty difficult,” said sophomore Zach Feldt. “Working with a lot of the people was fun, and I was able to enjoy myself while learning different songs at the same time. Normally I’m on the fence about performing, I enjoyed it at times but other times I don’t want to go on stage, but it’s the crowd and the people I work with, which is the reason I come back every time.”

ard work has been the new theme for the Waldorf University Men’s Football team. With a new coach at the helm the Warriors looked to start out on the right foot against Briar Cliff University. The stands were packed and the fans were ready to see the new look to the Warriors.

The Warriors would waste little time starting the first quarter out 14 to 0. A blocked punt return by Jeremiah Jackson and a one yard pass from quarter back Hilton Joseph to Tyron Jones would set the Warriors in front. By the end of the first quarter the crowd was on their feet and it was evident that the Warriors took "We as a team are learning how to play their new hard work theme seriously. In the second quarter the Warriors didn’t together and we are growing, everyone stop applying pressure to Briar Cliff. The is working hard and it is paying off."

In the fourth and final quarter the a one yard touchdown and Samuel Huntley caught a Warriors would kick back in gear as they scored two six yard pass touchdown from Hilton Joseph. Also giving his recollections from the game was tight end Davonte Bell, Bell said, “We as a team are learning how to play together and we are growing, everyone is working hard and it is paying off.”

Setting a Presence

Waldorf University’s football team is undergoing a significant change for the 2017 season. Waldorf University has hired a new head football coach and from there, he has hired a total of six additional coaches-along with two student assistants.

Coaching faculty changes can sometimes be detrimental to the team or even recruiting, but Waldorf University is determined this is the right direction.

On June 19, 2017, Josh Littrell was announced as the new Waldorf University Head Football Coach after former Head Coach, Kent Anderson had taken a job outside of coaching. The Athletic Director, Denny Jerome is extremely happy with what Littrell has to offer and cannot wait to see what he brings to the program.

“I like the optimism they bring with the team,” Jerome said, “I also think the athletes have responded well with the new staff that Littrell has put together.”

He has had a long track record of success within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). When asked what his strategy for the team is, his answer was reassuring. “We want to install that ‘Hard Hat Mentality’ and get players to become better teammates,” Littrell said. Previous to being announced as Waldorf's new head coach of the football program, Littrell had spent four years as an Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. The Tigers were well-known and even ranked in the top 25 of the NAIA poll in each of his four seasons there. Last year, Littrell’s offense was ranked 15th in NAIA with 225.2 rushing yards per game, and 15th in scoring with 35.7 points per game. As if that was not enough, they were ranked 17th in total rushing offense which was 2,477 yards. In the first season at Doane University, the team’s record had gone 5-5 and by the last two years there, the record had improved to 9-2 in both seasons. Needless to say, Coach Littrell was a big part of Doane University’s football success.

Before Littrell had gone to Doane University, he had coached as an Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Coach at Earl Warren High School in San Antonio, Texas. Even then, in 2011, Littrell’s success was strong because his offense had led all of San Antonio schools in scoring as well as winning the 2011 District Championship. They had also reached the quarterfinal round of the Texas

Class 5A Playoffs. Ironically, this team’s mascot was the Warriors with the school color being purple too.

One of Coach Littrell’s first college coaching positions was at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas where he had coached from 2002–05. With beginning his coaching career, Littrell was not timid at all and showed true potential of being a successful football coach. He helped lead the Blue Dragons to play in the 2003 Valley of the Sun Bowl and were the 2004 Heart of Texas Bowl Champions. Littrell had also be a part of numerous camps during his whole coaching career. A couple of the largest were the Tony Gonzalez (All-Star NFL Chiefs Tight end 1997-2008) Football Camp and he was the coordinator of the Darren Sproles (NFL Eagles Running back) Football Camp.

Littrell graduated from Olathe South High School in 1995 and while there, he played both the quarterback and wide-receiver positions. He then attended Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas. Littrell had played as a wide-receiver for those two years. He showed what he had and was then able to play football at NCAA Division 2, Emporia State. If this does not impress you, Littrell had also served in the Marine Corps from 1996 to 2000 and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Education Degree from Doane University.

Littrell is the husband of Renae Littrell, who have three sons.

Littrell is not the only one in his family with an impressive coaching career, his father was successful too, who just recently was inducted into the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Once head football coach Josh Littrell was announced, he had to then search for additional coaches to join him in this coaching transition. One of the first additional coaches Littrell found was Keith Jordan who has 35-years of coaching experience under his belt. For the past 4-years, he had coached as a linebacker’s coach at the University of Minnesota. He was then named Assistant Head Coach/ Defensive Coordinator and will be leading the defense for the Waldorf Warriors.

“I thought if we came in here and did the right things, we could do great things as a team,” Littrell said.

Next in the coaching line-up, is Shawn Henry, who has 16-years of coaching experience. Littrell saw how he had the ability to coach both offense and defense, in addition to holding wide-ranging knowledge in the breakdown of game plays and films. Henry

is linebacker coach and will play a big part in recruiting.

Kevin Roehrich was someone Littrell had known ever since he began coaching at Doane University. Roehrich was the Assistant Coach at Doane University along with Littrell. Littrell knew Roehrich had a way of his own on the offense side of the ball and would give the Warriors a big advantage in the upcoming seasons.

Roehrich was named the Offensive Line Coach for the Warriors.

Jonathan Black, a well-known name to Waldorf University’s Football program is now the Defensive Line Coach. Black was a former starting defensive tack for the Warriors and graduated in the Spring of 2017. The year, before, Black served the football team as a student assistant and Littrell thought this was a great opportunity for him to be mentored under defensive coordinator, Keith Jordan who has plenty of knowledge to share. “I felt like we had a lot of talent on the team and with the new staff we can really get things turned around,” Black said. Black seemed to be excited for where he is at and willing to go the extra mile for these players. “Players are more enthusiastic and willing to trust the process we are putting out there,” Black continued.

Previously a student teacher and coach at Northside Independent School District was Brandon Freeman. Freeman was also a 4-year starting wide-receiver in NCAA Division I at the University of Texas at San Antonio. With Freeman’s extensive skills and knowledge, he will serve as the Warriors’ Wide-Receiver’s Coach.

Former Flagler High School’s defensive coordinator and linebacker’s coach is John Hickey. More recently, Hickey was a physical education teacher at Arickaree School District in Anton, Colorado but will now be aiding the Warriors’ football team as the Linebacker’s/Safeties Coach.

Serving as student assistants for the 2017 season are Otto Travieso and Jacob Goodrich.

Massacre at Vegas Concert

D

uring a country music festival in Las Vegas, almost 58 people were killed and more than 480 people were injured. The cause of this tragic incident was due to a gunman who went on a massacre. The suspected gunman is 64-year-old, Stephen Paddock.

According to Las Vegas police and Fox News, Paddock checked into the Mandalay Bay Hotel and got a room on the 32nd floor where he stockpiled 23 guns. According to police, the room had handguns and powerful rifles that could pierce through police body armor. On the street below the Mandalay Bay was a country music festival called the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. Paddock looked down upon the crowd at the festival through the hotel window and begin to open fire. A security guard of the hotel found the location of Paddock’s room and tried to break down the door and distract the gunman. Paddock fired shots through the door and injured the security guard in the leg.

According to close friends and family members, Paddock had no apparent reason to commit such a crime. Eric Paddock, Stephen’s younger brother said, “Stephen was ‘just a guy,’ an ‘army of one’ with no known children despite a string of relationships.” A past neighbor of Paddock, Donald Judy said, “He was always normal.”

Many others say that Paddock was a well-traveled gambler who wasn’t particularly rich but, was well off financially to say the least. Paddock had no prior run-ins with the law or records besides a parking ticket.

By the time police broke down the door, Paddock was found dead inside his hotel room as he apparently committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. With more than 480 people injured and 58 people dead, the shooting is considered America’s deadliest mass shooting in modern history. Police are still investigating the incident and any ulterior motives that may have caused Paddock to commit this deadly act.
