Standridge Curtain Call - John Wasson Susan Meyer Patterson started her musical journey at age 5 with piano lessons. Even at this early age, she couldn’t wait to join band in the 6th grade and play trombone just like her dad. In fact, she started her band career on the same instrument her father played. Upon graduating high school, Mrs. Meyer Patterson attended The University of Texas at Austin where her principal teachers were Paula Crider, Jerry Junkin, Donald Knaub, and Richard Floyd. At UT, she was a member of both the Longhorn Band and the UT Wind Ensemble.

Mrs. Meyer Patterson began her career in Katy ISD in 1990, teaching both junior high and high school band, then moved to Conroe ISD in 2005. In 2007, she became Director of Bands at McCullough Junior High in The Woodlands. Under her direction, the McCullough Wind Ensemble was three times a state finalist in TMEA CCC Honor Band including 4th Runner Up in 2019 and 2nd Runner Up in 2017. Her bands earned consistent UIL Sweepstakes awards, Best in Class at Choice Music Festivals, and was a National Winner for the National Wind Band Honors Mark of Excellence. One of her most honored achievements was the McCullough Band being named Texas Bandmasters Association Exemplary Junior High Band Program for 2020. Since she retired from full-time teaching in 2020, she has been a fulltime band clinician, educational consultant, and adjudicator throughout the state of Texas.

Mrs. Meyer Patterson is grateful for the mentorship, teaching, and guidance of Eddie Green and Merlin Patterson. She served as the MS Band Coordinator for TMEA Region 9 from 2008 to 2014. Her professional memberships include Phi Beta Mu, TMAA, TMEA, and TBA. Mrs. Meyer Patterson lives in The Woodlands, Texas with her husband, composer/arranger Merlin Patterson, and loves being a beagle mom to their sweet boy Rachmaninoff.

Britt has served communities and universities in Oklahoma and Texas as a band director and fine arts administrator for the past 36 years. Currently, Mr. Britt is the Associate Dean of Research for the Weitzenhoffer Family of Fine Arts, Director of Athletic Bands, and holds the Gene Braught Chair in Music at The University of Oklahoma. Mr. Britt is the Director of “The Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band” and conducts the OU Boomer Campus Band.

Under Mr. Britt’s leadership, The “Pride of Oklahoma” Marching Band has appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and has twice appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA. The “Pride” has appeared at 21 bowl games bowl games under his direction, with seven of these appearances occurring in conjunction with BCS National Championship games or the College Football Playoff. In the spring of 2017, the “Pride of Oklahoma” Marching Band was selected as a featured ensemble for the CBDNA Athletic Band Forum in conjunction with the CBDNA National Convention in Kansas City, MO. Mr. Britt is active nationally as a guest conductor, clinician, adjudicator, lecturer, and consultant. He has presented sessions and served on panel discussions at state conventions for OMEA, TMEA, OBA, TBA, the CBDNA National Convention, and the CBDNA National Athletic Band Symposium.

As a conductor, he maintains an active schedule conducting All-Region and All-State bands throughout the southwest and he has appeared as a guest conductor with the OU Wind Symphony at state, regional, and national conferences.

Mr. Britt, earned both his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music (percussion) degrees from the University of Oklahoma. His professional associations include the Oklahoma Music Educators Association, Oklahoma Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu, Pi Kappa Lambda, Kappa Kappa, Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Tau Beta Sigma (honorary), and Kiwanis International.

Sparklefrog - Adam Silverman Spero - Michael Burritt Death Wish - Gemma Peacocke Innerludes I. res(pit) - Dave Hall Dave Hall is Associate Professor of Percussion at the University of North Texas College of Music, where he directs the UNT Percussion Ensemble and teaches applied lessons and courses on percussion literature, history, and pedagogy. Before his appointment at UNT, he was Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Under his direction, the University of Nebraska Percussion Ensemble was selected to perform a showcase concert at PASIC in both 2019 and 2016 as winners of the Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition.

He regularly performs as a keyboard and multi-percussion soloist, collaborative chamber musician (especially in contemporary classical settings), jazz drummer, timpanist, orchestral percussionist, steel pan player, and improviser – favoring an eclectic and omnivorous approach to percussion and the arts. In addition to regular engagements in the contiguous United States, he has performed abroad in Spain, Puerto Rico, Belgium, France, Italy, and at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

Dave is an active composer, published by C. Alan Publications. His works for percussion have been commissioned, performed, and recorded around the world. His music has been called “the aural equivalent of a Dali painting” (New York Concert Review). His compositions are regularly performed at notable venues including the Midwest Clinic, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy, and at major concert halls and performing arts centers in the USA and abroad. He is regularly involved nationally and internationally as an adjudicator and clinician for concert and marching percussion. In the summer of 2019, he joined the staff of the Bluecoats (DCI) as Associate Music Ensemble Coordinator.

Dr. Hall has earned degrees in percussion performance from the University of North Texas (D.M.A), TCU (M.M.), and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (B.M.). He is an endorsing artist for Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets, Pearl/Adams concert percussion, Remo drumheads, Sabian Cymbals, and is a member of the Black Swamp Percussion Educator Network. He is currently co-chair of the PAS Percussion Ensemble Committee and a member of the PAS Board of Advisors. Dave lives in Denton, TX with his wife Elizabeth and their three children.

Smith Let Me Be Frank With You - John Mackey Mike Howard currently serves as Director of Fine Arts, Music and Performing Arts, for the Leander Independent School District. Prior to this, he spent 19 years as a high school band director, most recently in Leander ISD at Vandegrift High School. He was one of the founding directors when Vandegrift High School opened in 2009 and became Director of Bands in 2014.

At Vandegrift High School, Howard’s marching bands have been recognized with several high honors, such as the 2019 Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Champion, 4-time BOA Regional Champion, consistent BOA Super Regional Finalist, BOA Super Regional Class Champion, 6A Texas UIL State Marching Contest Silver and Bronze Medalist, and 5A Texas UIL State Marching Contest Silver Medalist. The Vandegrift Marching Band was also awarded the Sudler Shield by the John Philip Sousa Foundation in 2019.

Under Howard’s direction, the Vandegrift Wind Ensemble was selected as the 2018 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) 6A State Honor Band and was chosen as a featured ensemble at the 2021 Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The Vandegrift Concert Band Program was also the recipient of the 2020 Sudler Flag of Honor by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.

Howard serves music education through state and local leadership roles. He currently serves as Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA) Concert Band Vice-President, TMEA Region 32 Band Division Chair, and TMEA Area E Band Chair. He is also an active clinician around Texas and has served as an adjudicator for Texas UIL, BOA, and Drum Corps International.

Howard’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu, TMEA, TMAA, and the Texas Bandmasters Association. He graduated from Texas State University – San Marcos with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and from Concordia University Texas with a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. Howard lives in Leander, Texas, with his wife Amber, daughter Madison, and son Justin.

III - Frank Ticheli Joyride - Michael Markowski Into the Silent Land - Steve Danyew Dominic Talanca assumed responsibility as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Wilmington Symphonic Winds in 2017. He is also the Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. At UNCW, Dr. Talanca conducts the Symphonic Band & Pep Band, teaches courses in conducting & woodwind techniques, and administers all aspects of the band program. In addition to his responsibilities with the Wilmington Symphonic Winds and UNCW, Dr. Talanca is also the conductor of Southern Harmonie, the Wilmington Symphony Pops Orchestra, the OLLI New Horizons Band, and the Wilmington Chamber Orchestra.

Talanca received the Bachelor of Music Education degree and Master of Music in Wind Conducting degree from the University of North Texas, where he studied conducting with Eugene Migliaro Corporon. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting degree at Northwestern University, where he studied with Mallory Thompson.

Dr. Talanca taught for ten years in the Lewisville Independent School District in the DallasFort Worth metroplex and served as the Associate Director of Bands at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas from 2006–13. During this time, the student musicians were recognized for their performances in concert and marching activities - earning numerous placements in the All-Region and All-State ensembles as well as 4 consecutive biannual Texas 5A State Marching Championship Awards.

Talanca co-authored a beginning band method, Musical Mastery, published by MRNS Music. The text is used in 140+ school districts (over 400 schools) in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and internationally (e.g., Japan and Oman) - impacting an estimated 100,000+ students to date. Several universities have also adopted the book as the primary text for their instrumental methods classes.

Additionally, Dr. Talanca has contributed three chapters to GIA Publication's Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series in addition to published journal articles for the music education journals in North Carolina, Utah, Arkansas, and an upcoming article in the WASBE Journal. He has presented multiple times at The Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago and numerous other music education conferences in North Carolina, Texas, and Utah.

He has recorded over 450 significant works in the wind band repertoire on the Mark Custom, Klavier, Naxos, and GIA recording labels. Talanca has also had the privilege to conduct as well as perform & record with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra.

Dr. Talanca is an active conductor, clinician, and adjudicator. In recent years, he has been invited to guest conduct ensembles throughout North Carolina and across the country, regularly engaging with thousands of secondary school students each year. His professional affiliations include Pi Kappa Lambda (National Music Honor Society), the College Band Directors National Association, North Carolina Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and he is an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Paynter Dr. Sarah McKoin is the Director of Bands and Professor of Conducting at Texas Tech University. Her responsibilities include Conductor and Musical Director of the TTU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, administrating the graduate program in wind conducting, teaching conducting and wind literature, and overseeing all facets of the University band program, which includes 5 concert bands, the 400 member Goin' Band from Raiderland, and other athletic bands.

Under Dr. McKoin's direction, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform for the third time at the 2017 Texas Music Educators Association Conference, and has been featured at the Southwest Regional Conference for the College Band Director's National Association in Las Cruces, NM. Dr. McKoin's ensemble has recorded world premiere recordings of the wind music of Chen Yi on the Naxos label released in 2015, as well as Narong Prangcharoen's work Chakra on his compilation CD entitled “Phenomenon,” released on the Albany label.

Dr. McKoin maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician and has traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Recently, she served as a clinician for a band festival in Thailand, and has worked for the Asian Pacific American School Honor Band in Guangzhou, China comprised of 100 students from Korea, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Kuala Lampur, Shanghai and other Southeast Asian cities. She has guest conducted in Taipei, Taiwan and has traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel to serve as producer for the world premiere recording of Roberto Sierra's Fantasia Correliana with the Castellani-Andriaccio guitar duo.

Prior to her appointment at Texas Tech, Professor McKoin was the Director of Bands at the University of MissouriKansas City Conservatory of Music and held appointments at the State University of New York at Buffalo and SUNY Fredonia. Additionally, McKoin spent nine summers in residence on the conducting faculty at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina as the Director of the Transylvania Wind Ensemble, and has taught at the Interlochen Arts Academy.

Dr. McKoin holds her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin as well as degrees from Wichita State University and Michigan State University. She has served as President of the Southwest Division of the College Band Director's National Association as well as President of the Big 12 Band Director's Association.

She is a member of TMEA, TBA, Phi Beta Mu, Pi Kappa Lambda and holds honorary memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.
