A soon-to-leave student's guide to Habib University
There are sooooo many things I disagree with over here but I have to admit that being a part of this place has had more impact on me as a person than any other educational institution in my life.
I have become a better version of myself; someone who is more informed, sensitive, and receptive to others around myself.
to be a better person
Quantification of learning, measuring success by your letter grade, and aptitude by the amount of publications you have, really calls a lot of things into question.
broken dreams, broken DNAhelix
it's a rat race out there. -h
In those instances, you take a step back, re-evaluate your positionality, then retire to the courts with delicious hot, french fries courtesy of Rahim Bhai as you stare at the sunset deep in thought
If you wish to survive, let go of all inhibitions and conform. But if the liberal core has had even a tiny impact on you, you'd struggle to do so.
Get ready to be shat on in more ways than one
People will always talk over you, take advantage of you, the system will take advantage of you, you won't get your courses because there will be no seats left, you'll have to beg, borrow and steal like it's the Hunger Games and you'll hate doing that with a fiery passion but you'll do it anyway.
Some days you'll have to pull coherent thoughts and ideas out of your butt, but if you ' ve done the readings you'll be fine

If you're CH, YOU'RE A UNICORN
On second thought, maybe camping out in the studio or befriending Owais might potentially bump you up on the endless list of equipment borrowers.
If you're SDP, you're the poster child, along with the CS folks but whatever it's not like we care
You'll wax poetic about Heidegger and Foucault. Feel a strange surge of love for Marx and denounce capitalism with your full chest.
Then you'll start doing fruitless internships at corporate businesses for your resume.
Quiet conversations next to a fountain, the rustling of leaves and the singing of birds interrupted by a gunshot sound every so often as the planes next door get ready to leave, making you wonder where they're going and if they'll be so kind to take you with them.
Sometimes you'll feel like this little mysterious bundle hanging from the ceiling outside Tariq Rafi, to which I'll say, hang in there, you'll be okay.
Breathe. Take a break. You deserve it. Let the world zoom on past you. You have the ability to freeze time. Don't miss out on the little things in search of something greater. Share a melting ice-cream under the scorching sun as you talk about where you used to be, where you are, and where you may or may not be going.
Find a spot that feels like home, treasure it, never let go, until it's your time to leave, of course.
Cherish it so that it becomes someone else's home after you're gone.
'Borrowed Notes' was initially conceived quite differently, with an emotional response that was more 'anger' than the current 'nostalgia.' I then realized that I had more love than anger inside me, and the trajectory changed.
This serves as a raw, more honest account of what I, as a graduating student would want Habib's prospectus to look like, as opposed to the very corporate, sterile document that currently exists. It encapsulates some (of many) moments that are integral to the Habib experience, from a more microscopic point of view; a graduating student.
The days are short, the days are long, the days are shit, the days are barely tolerable. The people are insufferable, the people saved your life. You hate this place, you are deeply in love with it. You can't wait to leave.
If only you could forever stay.
IF YOU HAVE LOVE TO GIVE, LOVE IS WHAT YOU'LL GET.
It doesn't get easier. But it gets better, only if you want it to though. And no matter how angry you might feel at the end of it all, you'll still miss this place (as cheesy as that sounds)
