ILLU MANN ATIONS

A NOTE FROM NANCY MANN, CEO OF MANN’S JEWELERS

As summer softens into fall, I always look forward to the rituals that mark the season—the traditional holidays, of course, but also the little gatherings that make everyday life feel festive. Watching a football game with friends, or even a fondue night after a day of skiing—each one is made a little more memorable when the table feels intentional and inviting.

I’m a big fan of setting a table with a multi-layered approach, using a fusion of high and low, old and new. Since childhood, I’ve scoured antique fairs and bid at auctions, collecting knew I would enjoy using for tablescapes. I love silver holloware and teak plates equally. A salad plate can go a long way in changing the vibe of the table and is an easy way to add personality. Cutlery with bamboo handles is in constant use at my house, as is flatware that was my mother’s. I’m constantly adding new pieces to my collection from the range of fine brands we represent at Mann’s Jewelers. It’s a labor of love.

L’Objet always has something new and exciting to share, truly unusual pieces, full of personality.

Michael Aram, a true artist, is a continual source of delight. His organic sensibility is clearly reflected in all his designs.

Jay Strongwater continues to frame those you love in detailed works of art, surrounded by Swarovski crystals and enhanced with enamel.

To me, a well curated table is a gesture of love. It shows your guests that you’re glad they’re there. It doesn’t require a significant investment—a patterned napkin swapped for a solid, an interesting placemat or napkin rings with a bit of sparkle or a touch of whimsy can add some interest.

Even takeout can feel special when the presentation is right. Recently I went to a birthday dinner-turned-game-night where the menu was cheeseburgers and french fries served on vintage china, with linen napkins and festive glassware. The contrast elevated the celebration—the juxtaposition of the unexpected has always fascinated me.

As much as jewelry trade shows are a part of my annual calendar, I also try not to miss any exhibitions at the tabletop showrooms. I never tire of seeing what’s new and work hard to find unusual collections to bring back to Rochester. Baccarat, the finest crystal in the world is showcased at Mann’s Jewelers. Both decorative objects and classic bar and stemware is always a perfect gift. Everyone loves opening the Baccarat red box!

That sense of mixing and elevating carries into my love of jewelry as well. At Mann’s Jewelers we often make reference to the “Texas denim on the bottom – and how so effortlessly with that look. of diamonds with workout Always chic. Just like the table, about balance, playfulness and finding beauty in contrast.

than anything, we believe in the ordinary extraordinary. often, and with intention. As we move into this season of gratitude, I speak for everyone at Mann’s Jewelers when I say how thankful we are for the community that surrounds us and supports us. Without you, none of this would shine quite as brightly.

FABULOUS IN ROCHESTER

Courtney Winslow, Rochester native and co-founder of Moon & Stone, shares some thoughts on personal style and current fashion trends.

ell, people. THIS IS FIFTY. Although I feel more like someone of a body snatchers movie seriously where did my waist go? Is Spongebob Square Pants looking for his body? Does he have my curves and perky butt? If found, please return to Mann’s Jewelers. Thanks.

In evolving this article over the past 14 years, I’ve shown up as a new mom struggling to get out the door without vomit on my dress, to a mom of toddlers with Cheerios stuck to the back of my jeans trying to keep my mascara from running down my face during a full-on mutual tantrum session—to a Fashionista in the school pick-up line, then back to a new mom (oops), moving on to endless days at the Strong Museum, straight to birthday parties at Altitude. Now, it’s Hockey Mom jackets, college tour “sensible” shoes and graduation party dresses that won’t embarrass any of my offspring.

my tight skin, natural curls, and chubby babies. I’d even settle for my old metabolism.

All time travel aside, here I am, and I’m gonna be here for it. So if I need to blast Avril Lavigne and pull out my Courtney Love red lipstick, I will. And I’ll embrace these teenage years like they are my own. Yikes! Also...sorry Mom. Damn was I a handful! Stealing all your amazing Body Glove outfits, your fur coats and the tanning lamp was the least of it.

soft fabrics, bold details and confidence that shows lived a little.

Headmaster Chic

Hey! Let’s take a little trip back to the ’90s… this season’s favorites have arrived back on the streets during NYFW.

Feminine Energy

What the actual f*** has happened? Did Father Time hijack my fabulous little life? If so and you’re reading this please return

Feminine energy is coming on strong down the runway. Priestess vibes were the main focus for Chloe this season; pairing low slung belts over layers of chiffon just adds to the bohemian glam of the layered jewelry. Long chains that hang down to your belly adorned with gold medallions, finishing your look to give that slightly mystical, slightly rock-n-roll appeal that makes you feel like you’re floating instead of walking. Think: goddess energy with a city edge

Hey, the Headmaster called and you’re in dress code violation again! Your teen may be able to pull off the micro plaid mini, but gurl if you try this…mark my words… you’re going to see those Spanx holding all your parts in place. Instead, let’s get sexy by highlighting what we DO have: hips. Pencil skirts accentuate them while holding things tightly in place (gosh, why is that so hard these days), and I love it with a banker’s button down and a mini cardigan tossed over the top.

Sensible shoes for your ever-growing feet are going to look sexy with shiny burgundy loafers. Pair it all with a worn leather tophandle buckle purse. Who needs to be the teacher’s pet when you could be the one with the pet? This is grown-up prep school style smart, flattering and a little subversive.

ETHO MARIA NECKLACE WITH WHITE CERAMIC AND 11.58 TW OF YELLOW DIAMONDS IN 18K YELLOW GOLD. $47,600
MJ ON TREND CURB LINK BRACELET WITH 7.47 TW OF PAVÉ DIAMONDS IN 14K YELLOW GOLD. $15,995

Barn Girl

Rubber boots and tweed, minis and barn coats, silk scarves and Fair Isle knits. This isn’t a costume it’s country-chic, reimagined. Picture sipping champagne while leaning against a stable door, your silk scarf catching the breeze. Rugged meets refined, and it works because you wear it with confidence.

Color Wars

Mix in bold brights to make your style all your own. A red splash of color with blush and camel, or even a lime green and cobalt blue can be a great BAM when you walk into the board room. Take that, boring Brooks Brothers guys! At this stage in life, color isn’t scary it’s powerful. It announces your presence and your personality before you can even speak.

feel like an extension of who we’ve become layered, interesting, bold and just a little unpredictable.

When you reach into your closet this season whether it’s for sequins, slip dresses or a leather jacket remember you’re not dressing to impress anyone else. You’re dressing to delight yourself. You’re creating a mood, a memory, a moment. And that, more than anything, is the real power of style at this stage of life.

So crank up your playlist, swipe on the red lipstick and walk into every room like it’s your runway. After all, fifty isn’t an ending. It’s the best kind of beginning one where you already know who you are and what looks good on you, and you’re brave enough to wear it anyway.

How did Mirbeau get its start 25 years ago?

Over 25 years ago, our founders Linda and Gary Dower recognized two seismic shifts redefining travel. First, they found late-1990s American hospitality to be uninspired, functioning as a convenient stop to lay your head, while the few destination spa resorts available were tucked away in major cities, far from home. But in Europe, the Dowers discovered a different tradition: inns and hotels as the social center of communities, where hospitality was an art and a service.

They also saw how the rise of the internet and cell phones was accelerating life’s pace. People were constantly “on” with few places to switch off. The Dowers envisioned a new kind of destination, one close enough for a weekend or even a single day, where guests could find balance and return renewed.

On May 11, 2000, they opened Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Skaneateles, NY: a romantic, French-inspired retreat where gracious hospitality, inspiring design and restorative spa are within reach. What began in the Finger Lakes has grown

into a collection of resorts in Plymouth, MA; Rhinebeck, NY; Albany, NY; and Beacon, NY (opening 2026)—each offering the enduring elegance and genuine care of the original.

What makes the Skaneateles location special?

Skaneateles set the blueprint for every Mirbeau to come. It is an immersive escape that feels instantly welcoming, yet completely transports you, as if you’ve been whisked away to France. Renowned for its pristine lake and natural beauty, it embodies our belief that beautiful surroundings have the power to restore us. For the Dowers, who are Skaneateles locals, opening the first Mirbeau Inn & Spa here was natural and deeply meaningful. As a family-owned brand, this decision reflects our core philosophy: transformative escapes don’t have to be far away. Even close to home, you can forget the outside world for a while.

Can you share a bit about the meaning behind the name Mirbeau?

Mirbeau loosely translates to “reflected beauty.” It’s a tribute to French Impressionist art, especially Claude Monet. His use of soft light, warm colors and introspective character inspires every detail of Mirbeau. Just as his paintings invite the viewer into a moment of quiet reflection, our spaces are designed to evoke the same calm and emotional response.

How would you describe the design and overall feel of the properties?

Every Mirbeau Inn & Spa blends classic elegance with contemporary touches to capture the charm of a private estate found in France. To create our hallmark design, timeless

Mirbeau Skaneateles, NY

château-style architecture and gardens patterned after Monet’s Giverny are combined with warm, residential features such as grand fireplaces and clawfoot tubs. Woven throughout the oldworld grandeur are all the modern comforts to ensure today’s traveler feels perfectly at home. Our interiors feature rich textures, curated artwork and custom European furnishings, creating a serene, soulful atmosphere that immediately puts guests at ease. This balance of familiarity and modernity defines the Mirbeau aesthetic. While united by this signature style, each property reflects its setting: Skaneateles channels a Provençal countryside estate; Plymouth recalls a manor outside Paris; Rhinebeck mirrors a 1930s Parisian hotel; and Beacon will debut as a Loire Valley–inspired estate.

How have wellness trends changed since you opened and how has Mirbeau adapted?

Wellness has since shifted from niche to necessity. As work hours lengthen and constant connectivity becomes the norm, people value intentional rest more than ever. Unlike other wellness resorts focused on peak fitness or strict routines in pursuit of an unattainable ideal, Mirbeau embraces intuitive, sustainable balance. We encourage movement, meditation and therapeutic treatments but also our Mirbeau Monet Rosé or signature sundae. To us, wellness isn’t about perfection and these indulgences aren’t contradictions but instead complements to a richer, well-balanced life. Our guests are invited to reconnect with their wellness in a natural, unforced way that honors both body and spirit.

What does a perfect experience look like from check-in to checkout?

Guests can come for the day or overnight, and curate their own perfect experience. Upon entering, all are welcomed by our signature eucalyptus scent and friendly staff.

Day spa guests can ease into relaxation with a quiet moment in our steam room or Resting Area. For those seeking movement, daily fitness classes and a fully equipped gym are available. Afterward, detoxify in the sauna before a revitalizing massage, body treatment or ultra-luxe facial. Post-treatment, soak in the hot whirlpool or socialize on the outdoor Aqua Terrace. Then, savor food and drink at the Aqua Terrace Bar or restaurant, where dining in robes is welcome until 4 p.m.

Hotel guests are greeted with champagne and guided to luxurious rooms with cozy fireplaces, custom mattresses, clawfoot tubs and walk-in showers stocked with Mirbeau’s bath products and plush robes. After settling in, enjoy a fivestar dinner at our restaurant, where indulging in dessert is simply part of the experience. End the evening with a soothing spa treatment or massage for the deepest, most restful night’s sleep. Before departure, revisit the spa one last time or stroll downtown to explore local attractions.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MIRBEAU

The next chapter unfolds in Beacon, NY, as we restore a majestic 64-acre historic estate. In spring 2026, we’ll open Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon our largest resort yet featuring 72 guest rooms and a 25,000-square-foot spa. Established in 1859 by Eliza and Joseph Howland and once a retreat for celebrities of the 20th century, the property has long been a sanctuary for healing and wellness. After 25 years uninhabited, we will reopen the story of this iconic estate and reimagine its legacy to offer the same reflective, restorative experience that has defined Mirbeau for a quarter century.

In what ways has the property’s historic use represented healing and wellness?

Eliza and Joseph Howland created Tioronda, named after the Native American word describing the meeting of the Fishkill Creek and Hudson River, as a countryside escape away from the noise of New York City. Their estate was intentionally and meticulously crafted to highlight its natural beauty and the restorative power of retreat. That spirit of wellness was carried forward in 1915, when Dr. Clarence Slocum founded

the Craig House as a pioneering residential mental health retreat, recognized nationally as one of the leading institutions of its kind. Patients, referred to as “guests,” experienced an environment designed for dignity and renewal, with comfortable rooms, fine dining and activities like tennis, swimming, painting and time in nature. Today, Mirbeau’s arrival is a natural continuation of this tradition of healing and well-being.

What drew Mirbeau to the Beacon property, and what makes this estate so special?

What immediately drew us to Tioronda was its classical beauty. Its rare High Victorian Gothic style resonates deeply with Mirbeau’s tradition of honoring timeless design and European elegance. The mansion itself is an architectural gem, crafted by Frederick Clarke Withers and Richard Morris Hunt, two of America’s most celebrated architects, while the surrounding grounds were envisioned by Henry Winthrop Sargent, one of the nation’s pioneering landscape designers. Restoring such a landmark is both a privilege and a point of pride, and the enthusiasm from the Beacon community only deepens our

Mirbeau Beacon, NY

excitement. Soon, guests will be able to experience this American treasure as Mirbeau Inn & Spa whether joining us for dining, a spa retreat or an overnight stay.

What can guests look forward to at Mirbeau Beacon that will be entirely new or distinctive?

Mirbeau Beacon offers more space to create generous public areas and elevated dining experiences. One of the standout features is the Music Room, designed by Richard Morris Hunt in 1872, which will be entirely new to Mirbeau. The room’s stately 58-pipe Opus Organ built in 1873 will serve as an ornamental centerpiece, adding a sense of history and grandeur to the space. Just beyond, the historic terrace will be reimagined as our outdoor Champagne Terrace, a graceful setting for gathering and savoring culinary delights alongside sweeping views of the estate.

The Spa will also be our most expansive yet, offering a wider variety of amenities than ever before. Guests will enjoy

all the favorites from Skaneateles including a sauna, steam room, Resting Area, Aqua Terrace with outdoor bar and hot spa whirlpool, gym and Motion Studio along with brand-new spaces like a serene Reflection Room for post-treatment decompression and a light-filled Solarium for socializing. This expanded layout allows us to provide a restorative experience that is both luxurious and uniquely Beacon.

In what ways will Beacon reflect Mirbeau’s French-inspired style, and where will it have its own unique personality?

Mirbeau Beacon will celebrate the distinctive character of the existing historic mansion by marrying its Gothic Revival architecture with our Frenchinspired style. Our signature gardens, patterned after Monet’s Giverny, will be a defining feature, creating the sense of tranquility and splendor our guests have come to expect. Beacon’s own personality will shine through in its interiors.

To complement the mansion’s original

dark wood detailing and the rich, layered coloring, we are embracing deep jewel tones that evoke the opulence of the era. By pairing these features with contemporary lighting and comfortable furnishings throughout, we strike a balance between old and new, creating a “home away from home” infused with European sensibilities that reflect both Mirbeau’s signature aesthetic and the original character of the property.

How does this opening represent the future of Mirbeau as a brand?

Mirbeau Beacon represents a bold step forward for the brand. It reflects our continued commitment to creating destinations that honor classical beauty, thoughtful design and restorative experiences, while also embracing new possibilities for scale, innovation and guest amenities. Looking ahead, Beacon sets the stage for future Mirbeau Inn & Spa properties that may carry their own storied legacies, allowing us to bring the Mirbeau experience to even more remarkable estates.

Q&A WITH PLASTIC SURGEON ASHLEY AMALFI: THE FUTURE OF BREAST ENHANCEMENT HAS ARRIVED

We’re hearing buzz about a revolutionary new breast augmentation technique. What’s all the excitement about?

I am absolutely thrilled to share that we’re introducing what I consider the most significant advancement in breast augmentation technology in over two decades. This preservation-focused approach represents a complete paradigm shift in how we think about breast enhancement. Instead of working through your natural breast tissue like traditional methods, this innovative technique works around it, preserving everything that’s naturally functioning beautifully while achieving your aesthetic goals.

What makes this approach so different from traditional breast augmentation?

The difference is remarkable, and frankly, it’s what I’ve been dreaming of as a surgeon. Traditional breast augmentation requires cutting through breast tissue, muscle, and nerves to create space for the implant. This new preservation technique uses patented technology to gently create the perfect pocket while keeping your natural breast tissue, nipple sensation, and chest muscle strength completely intact. Think of it as enhancement designed around you, not through you. It’s truly a gentler approach that respects what your body has given you while achieving the beautiful results you desire.

Who is the ideal candidate for this preservation technique?

This is perfect for women who want breast enhancement but have been hesitant about traditional surgery because they’re concerned about losing sensation or function. It’s ideal for first-time augmentation patients, women considering both augmentation and a lift, and even those who need revision surgery. This technique is particularly well-suited for women looking for moderate enhancement – think going from an A to a C cup or a B to a D cup – rather than dramatic size increases. Really, any woman who values preserving what she has while gaining what she wants is a great candidate. The key is wanting natural-looking results with faster recovery and long-term stability.

What can patients expect in terms of recovery and results?

The recovery is significantly gentler – and that’s what gets me so excited about this for my patients! Because we’re not disrupting your natural structures, patients experience less pain, need lighter anesthesia, and return to their normal activities much faster. Many patients are out to dinner the same evening with full range of motion, back to their office jobs in just two days, and returning to the gym within one to two weeks! The incisions are smaller, creating more discrete scarring. But what’s really exciting is the long-term stability – clinical data shows these implants maintain perfect positioning over time, with zero shifting after three years. Your results stay exactly where they should be. This sounds almost too good to be true. What’s the science behind it?

I know it sounds almost too good to be true – I felt the same way when I first learned about it! The technology involves specialized instruments that gradually and precisely create space for the implant without cutting through your tissue. We also use advanced implants that actually adapt their shape –they’re round when you’re lying down and teardrop-shaped when you’re standing, mimicking how natural breasts move and look. It’s truly revolutionary engineering that allows us to achieve your goals often with smaller implant sizes than traditional methods would require.

We understand this isn’t widely available yet. How exclusive is this technique?

You’re absolutely right, this is incredibly exclusive. Only 36 surgeons worldwide have been trained in this groundbreaking technique, and I’m proud to be the only one in our region offering it. This represents a major milestone not just for the Quatela Center, but for patients throughout Rochester and beyond who now have access to the most advanced breast enhancement technology available anywhere.

When will this be available to patients?

We’re in the very early stages of offering this revolutionary technique, and availability will be extremely limited initially. We’re encouraging patients who are interested

to join our priority notification list for consultation availability. This ensures they’ll be among the first to know when we can schedule their consultation and procedure. Given the exclusivity and the incredible benefits this technique offers, we expect interest to be tremendous.

What would you tell someone who’s been considering breast augmentation but has been on the fence?

This could be the game-changer you’ve been waiting for! If you’ve been hesitant about traditional breast augmentation because you’re concerned about recovery, sensation, or long-term results, this preservation approach addresses all of those concerns. You truly can have the enhancement you desire while keeping everything that’s naturally yours. I’d encourage anyone interested to reach out and get on our notification list –this represents the future of breast enhancement, and it’s available right here in Rochester!

How can interested patients learn more?

The best first step is to contact our office to join our priority notification list for consultation availability. We’ll keep you updated on when consultations open and provide additional information as we get closer to full availability. You can reach us at (585) 595-2986 or through our website. This is truly an exciting time in plastic surgery, and I can’t wait to share this incredible technology with our patients.

Lauren Sands/LES Collection

I founded LES out of a desire for connection and a passion for narratives. As I embarked on a painting series for my son’s nursery, I documented the creative process on social media. To my surprise, it quickly gained traction, and I found myself enveloped in the warmth of creative friendship and a community that sprouted joy.

I found boundless energy in discovering and sharing the stories of artists who inspired me. From this wellspring of inspiration, the vision for LES Collection emerged to create a sanctuary for the creatives I admire and amplify their eclectic voices. I delight in delving into our artists’ backgrounds, inspirations and processes to discover what makes their work truly unique. This philosophy is woven into the fabric of my creative approach.

For me, collecting transcends a mere acquisition of objects; it is a celebration of community. LES Collection, born from this sacred ethos, stands as a testament to the belief that art is not a solitary endeavor, but a shared expedition into the realms of imagination.

Virtual coaching is reshaping the fitness world—but can a screen replace the human connection?

In the era of on-demand everything, when calendars are packed and wellness is both a status symbol and a survival strategy, fitness has undergone a sleek digital transformation. Virtual coaching apps, once considered a backup plan for frequent travelers or the time-deprived, have moved into the spotlight. With offerings that range from artificial intelligence (AI)-driven platforms like Freeletics to high-touch services like Kate Hudson-endorsed Future and brilliantly buff Chris Hemsworth’s Centr, the marketplace is evolving faster than ever—and we’re all tuning in.

The appeal is easy to understand. These apps offer something most of us crave: the promise of personal attention without the logistical juggling. Whether you’re logging a strength circuit at 6 a.m. in your hotel room or doing a guided yoga flow in your living room after dinner, virtual coaching puts customized fitness at your fingertips. There’s no commute, no scheduling hassle and no need to fit into someone else’s availability. It’s wellness on your terms.

More than just convenient, virtual coaching apps also can be personalized. While traditional personal training can easily top $100 per hour, digital platforms often deliver a tailored experience at a fraction of the cost. Many connect users with real human coaches, who check in regularly and adjust routines based on progress, injuries or even travel schedules. Others rely on algorithms to tweak your workouts in real time, offering flexibility that rivals—and occasionally surpasses—what’s possible in a conventional gym setting.

And then there’s the data. With wearable integration, progress tracking and performance metrics, users can dive into the details of their fitness journeys as never before. There’s a certain satisfaction in seeing your week’s stats laid out in front of you—how many calories burned, how your heart rate trended, how many steps you took between meetings. For those who are motivated by structure and progress, this feedback can be an incentive to keep showing up.

Another point in favor of going digital? Access. A few taps on your phone can connect you to a Pilates specialist in New York City, a mobility expert in London or a marathon coach based in Flagstaff, Arizona. That kind of global reach was once reserved for the elite; now it’s becoming mainstream.

Still, virtual coaching is not without limitations. One of the most critical concerns is the lack of real-time supervision. While video demos and the results-dependent feedback are helpful, they’re no replacement for a trained eye correcting your form mid-movement. No one’s barking at you to keep pushing through a final set—or stopping you if you’re gripping a kettlebell the wrong way. Those are the kinds of interventions that prevent injury and elevate performance, but they rarely come through a screen.

Communication can feel a little one-dimensional as well. Even with regular check-ins via text or video, virtual coaching lacks the spontaneity and nuance of in-person interaction. There’s no reading your body language, no subtle recalibrations based on your mood or energy that day. For some, that absence of human intuition makes the experience feel more transactional than transformational.

There’s also the broader context of screen fatigue. In a culture already saturated with digital demands, some users find that adding yet another app to their daily routine feels less like empowerment than obligation. Fitness, after all, is about more than just reps and metrics. It’s about connection—sometimes to a coach, sometimes to a community and invariably to yourself. A glowing screen, no matter how interactive, can feel like it’s slighting on that promise.

That’s why many people are now embracing a hybrid approach, using virtual coaching as a supplement rather than a substitute. Some combine remote guidance with occasional in-person sessions; others layer on live classes or studio visits to retain that sense of community and immediacy. It’s a model that offers the best of both worlds: digital flexibility with human connection.

Ultimately, virtual coaching is a tool. For those who thrive on autonomy, love data and appreciate efficiency, it may be a perfect fit. For others who draw energy from physical presence and real-time feedback, it could feel like something is missing. As with any element of a well-curated lifestyle, the key is intentionality. Know what you need, understand how you’re motivated, and choose the tools that support, rather than distract from, your goals.

Because at its best, fitness is more than just a habit. It’s a relationship. And as in any good relationship, the medium matters—but the connection is what counts.

SORELLINA

sorel’ina / Italian / f: smaller or younger sister

Sorellina is a fine jewelry collection infused with dynamic energy and a distinct point of view. The brand thrives on contrast, bringing together opposing forces to create something entirely new: where masculine strength meets feminine grace, where accessibility stands alongside aspiration and where vintage artistry informs strikingly modern design. Each piece is a study in duality, a balance of old-world craftsmanship and contemporary edge.

Based in Brooklyn, NY, Sorellina was co-founded by sisters Nicole and Kim Carosella, whose complementary talents breathe life into the brand. Nicole, after earning her degree in fine arts and honing her skills in jewelry design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, became the chief designer, responsible for the collection’s bold and imaginative aesthetic. Kim, with her background in art history and her formative studies in Florence, Italy, brings a keen curatorial sensibility and oversees the operations that ground their shared vision. Together, they chose the name Sorellina—Italian for “little sister”—as both an homage to their heritage and a celebration of their creative bond.

Crafted in 18k gold and adorned with precious and semi-precious gemstones, the collection is distinguished by its specialty stone cutting and masterful use of color. Unexpected, sophisticated combinations lend each

Its distinctive creations have been celebrated in leading publications such as Elle, Forbes, WSJ Magazine and Vogue.com, solidifying its reputation as one of the most innovative voices in fine jewelry today.

Mann’s Jewelers is proud to represent Sorellina, standing among the select group of esteemed retailers entrusted to share this remarkable collection with clients who appreciate jewelry as both adornment and art.

IS TECH A THREAT?

Futuristic technology need not be the despair of artisans and craftspeople, its supporters say. Instead, it offers these creative folk a host of new modalities.

Once seen as a soulless threat to handmade tradition, technology is now emerging as an unexpected ally to artisans and craftspeople. Rather than replacing skill with automation, it’s expanding the boundaries of creativity— offering new tools, platforms and precision techniques that breathe fresh life into age-old crafts. From digital design to global e-commerce, tech is not erasing craftsmanship; it’s empowering a new generation of makers to innovate, connect and thrive like never before.

Reader, did you find that opening paragraph persuasive? Did it make you want to read on? It was composed in one second flat by the OpenAI artificial intelligence program ChatGPT (and this article—we guarantee it—contains the only machine-written text you’ll find in this magazine). Oh, it’s a bit long-winded, perhaps. We could quibble with the phrase “handmade tradition” (as if tradition itself were being hammered at the workbench), and the tired phrase “breathe fresh life” arguably needs its own resuscitation. But on the whole the paragraph is frighteningly serviceable. And let’s face it: No human staffer on this or any other magazine could have produced it in a single second.

What does this mean? If you’re in the arts or the “creative” professions, it means—no lie—that the earth is shaking beneath your feet. But if the Luddites who smashed textile machines in early 19th-century England to protest automation weren’t

entirely wrong, they weren’t entirely right either. And they didn’t prevail—technology marched on.

So if there’s a bright side to the tech revolution for today’s artisan or craftsperson, for heaven’s sake let’s look for it. Who knows? We may find that our Chatty author here, however garrulously inhuman, has a point. Whether or not it’s aided by the brilliance of today’s computers, craftsmanship lives. For example:

THE SOUL OF CERAMICS

In the evolving world of ceramics, three-dimensionalprinter pottery stands at the intersection of tradition and technology. Using clay-extruding 3D printers, artists today can create intricate forms they could never have fashioned by hand, all the while preserving the tactile warmth of handmade work through oldfashioned glazing and finishing techniques. Far from mass-produced, these pieces emerge from small studios and design-driven ateliers that practice traditional craftsmanship—intentional, slow and deeply personal.

Makers like Olivier van Herpt of the Netherlands and New York-based Unfold Creative Studio are pushing boundaries, blending artisanal knowledge with public software and digital design. The results are sculptural objects and functional homewares that feel both futuristic and grounded. As part of the broader return to

atelier culture, 3D pottery redefines what it means to be “handmade” in the 21st century—offering a fusion of innovation, individuality and beauty. It’s not just pottery; it’s a new kind of digital craftsmanship with a deeply human core.

THE DIGITAL NOSE

A new kind of atelier is emerging in the fragrance industry, one where artificial intelligence (AI) teams up with centuries-old craft. AI tools like Givaudan’s Carto or IBM’s Philyra now help perfumers analyze scent combinations and generate innovative formulas, opening the door to unique olfactory experiences. But while algorithms do their thing, it’s still the human nose that refines, balances and completes each blend. The artistry doesn’t stop at the scent; many niche brands continue to bottle their creations using traditional techniques—handblown glass, wax seals and steeping processes that let the fragrance mature like fine wine. This fusion of high-tech precision and a tactile heritage reflects a broader cultural shift toward intentional luxury. In a market saturated with mass-produced perfumes, these ateliers offer something different: fragrances co-created by machine and master, then wrapped in craftsmanship.

WOVEN WITH CODE

Imagine a handwoven jacket that not only looks beautiful but also tracks your posture, adjusts to your body temperature or syncs with your phone. This is the age of smart textiles, when age-old craftsmanship meets next-generation technology. It’s when designers and textile innovators are embedding microsensors into hand-loomed garments, creating fashion that’s fun, functional and full of personal information.

Unlike mass-produced wearables, these garments are often crafted in small ateliers or experimental studios using time-tested tailoring techniques such as natural dyeing or artisanal weaving. Whether it’s a tailored coat that monitors your stress levels or a scarf that reacts to your environment, the clothing is rich in story, responsive to the body and grounded in both tradition and innovation.

DESIGNED BY HAND AND HEART

Though digital renderings and prefab construction dominate much of the industry, a quiet revolution is reshaping architecture and design. Architects and designers are reviving old-school techniques like rammed earth construction, lime plastering, hand-hewn timber framing and intricate wood joinery. These tactile, regionally sourced materials bring warmth and texture that digital fabrication often lacks. Paired with minimalist and modernist aesthetics—clean lines, open spaces and abundant natural light, for instance—these handcrafted elements create a harmonious blend of old and new. In addition, places such as Paris-based studio Ko and Apparatus Studio in New York work as modern ateliers, crafting bespoke interiors and furniture using bronze casting, hand-applied patinas and artisanal leatherwork. This fusion favors deliberate design, quality and locality over speed and mass production. The result: spaces that showcase personality, are rooted in craft and feel fresh and contemporary.

TIMELESS LUXURY

At the heart of the atelier revival lie the world’s most revered makers of jewelry and watches, where centuries-old artisanal techniques meet

contemporary elegance. Brands like Marco Bicego, David Yurman and Roberto Coin continue to celebrate hand engraving, intricate goldwork and bespoke design, crafting jewelry rich in personal narrative and skill. There also are artisans like Marla Aaron in New York City, who blends industrial motifs (locks and chains, for instance) with precise craftsmanship to create wearable art that looks and feels modern yet is rooted in tradition. In watchmaking, icons such as Patek Philippe and Rolex exemplify the pinnacle of handcrafted excellence, with master watchmakers meticulously assembling complex movements and applying exquisite hand finishing. Niche ateliers like Swiss brand Akrivia also are pushing the boundaries of traditional horology with visible mechanical artistry. This return to slow, intentional luxury embraces transparency, ethical sourcing and timeless design, standing in sharp contrast to the fast-paced, disposable world.

So—the glass is half full after all, isn’t it?

Still, just for fun—and fairness—we asked ChatGPT to take a look at the glass-half-empty case about tech-enabled arts and crafts. We found that it was happily willing to warn about itself, and with the same “s” word it had debunked in its bullish intro. Like a high school debater, the machine was prepared to argue either side:

While tech undeniably offers new tools to artisans, its impersonal nature risks diluting the deeply human essence at the core of true craftsmanship. When algorithms begin to dictate aesthetic choices, we edge closer to creative work that may be efficient—but soulless.

Founder of Indigo Tones and currently living in Rochester, NY, Kerry Jones has consulted with thousands of clients who are now radiating in their seasonal tones all over the globe. When she met with the Mann’s Jewelers team, Kerry guided us through the art and science of color analysis, selecting palettes that enhance the full depth of our natural tones to utilize for clothing, metal colors and gemstone selections. indigotones.com

UNDERSTANDING THE SCIENCE

What exactly is personal color analysis, and how does it differ from simply choosing colors you like?

Personal color analysis is the process of determining the most flattering colors to wear using color science theories developed by artists who were also scientists. While some people naturally gravitate toward their best colors, outside influences such as trends, personal style or even a lack of confidence in wearing color can make it difficult to recognize the full range of hues that are truly flattering.

Can you explain how Albert Munsell’s color theory and the Impressionist painters’ approach to seasons inform modern color analysis?

Albert Munsell created a notation system for colors that is still used across art, design and science. It describes every color in three dimensions. He discovered that all colors in nature, including human coloring, share these dimensions. The Impressionist painters connected these dimensions to the seasons of the year as they observed how light and color shifted while painting outdoors.

What role do hue, value and intensity play in determining someone’s best colors?

Hue, value and intensity are the three characteristics every color, season and person possesses. Together, they determine which seasonal tone harmony someone belongs to.

How does color harmony enhance features like skin tone, eye brightness or even the appearance of fine lines?

Like music, when colors are in harmony, they elevate one another. Wearing harmonious colors brightens the eyes, smooths the appearance of skin and softens fine lines, blemishes or scars. The colors themselves also appear more vibrant.

What happens visually when someone wears colors that clash with their natural coloring?

Disharmonious colors can wash a person out, dull their eyes, emphasize redness or sallowness in the skin and draw attention to fine lines, wrinkles or blemishes.

(Bright Spring)

PERSONAL SEASONS

How do you determine someone’s color season?

I use drapes carefully selected for their three characteristics and organized into 12 distinct seasonal tone harmonies. The right drape should enhance the skin, harmonize with natural hair color and brighten the eyes or even mirror their color. Can you describe the defining characteristics of each seasonal family?

I work with a 12-season system rather than just four, but broadly:

Winter: Dark, Cool, Intense

Spring: Light, Warm, Intense

Summer: Cool, Light, Muted

Autumn: Dark, Warm, Muted

How can two people with similar hair and skin tones fall into different seasonal categories?

This happens often. The difference lies in subtle shifts—like a Warm Spring brown being lighter and brighter, while a Warm Autumn brown is darker and more muted.

Do people’s color seasons ever change over time, for example with aging or graying hair?

No, we remain part of our seasonal tone harmony throughout life. Hair graying may change how we wear our colors, but it doesn’t shift us into a different season.

APPLICATION TO JEWELRY

How does someone’s color season influence which metals—gold, silver, platinum—will look most harmonious?

Metals, like people, share the same three color characteristics. Silver is cool, so it flatters Winters and Summers. Platinum tends to be more muted, making it especially suited for muted seasons like Summer. What gemstones best complement a Bright Winter versus a Soft Autumn?

Bright Winters shine in bright, cool silvers and gems with intensity. Soft Autumns glow in rose gold, which shares their slightly warm, slightly muted characteristics.

Are there “universal” gemstones or metals that flatter almost everyone?

No. Harmony depends entirely on the three characteristics. Nothing can be all things at once.

When mixing metals, how can you stay true to your season without clashing?

Focus on the dominant characteristic of your seasonal tone harmony and honor that first. How can jewelry create the same kind of harmony as clothing or makeup?

Gems and metals should be seen as colors. The same principles of harmony applied in fashion, interiors, makeup or art apply to jewelry and accessories.

(Dark Autumn)

JEWEL OF ROCHESTER

We give children a voice by advocating for them with trauma-informed, child-centered services across prevention, intervention and healing.

We create spaces where children can feel supported through adulthood and each step of their journey, while ensuring they do not experience re-traumatization.

One in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. In over 90% of child abuse cases, the child knows or trusts their abuser.

What is The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester (The CAC) and what role do you play in our community?

As the premier child advocacy center in Greater Rochester, we are dedicated to giving children a voice and ending abuse. Our services support children and families through healing, education, and prevention.

What situations might lead a child to come to The CAC?

The CAC serves children who have experienced physical or sexual abuse or have witnessed a violent crime.

How is The CAC different from other child service organizations?

The CAC brings all the professionals a family may need together under one safe, child-friendly roof, including law enforcement, child protective services, medical providers, victim advocates and therapists. This collaboration means a child only has to tell their story once. Our goal is to reduce trauma, lessen stress and ensure children and families feel heard, protected and supported every step of the way.

What kind of professionals work together at The CAC?

The CAC partners with a multidisciplinary team to provide critical services and minimize trauma. Those who work and partner with The CAC include family advocates, mental health professionals and forensic interviewers. The CAC also works closely with local police, the District Attorney’s Office, Child Protective Services and Golisano Children’s Hospital.

What are some warning signs that a child may be experiencing abuse?

Warning signs vary, but may include:

• A child appears distracted or distant at unusual times.

• Sudden changes in sleeping or eating habits.

• Developing new or unusual fears of certain people or places.

• Regression in age-appropriate behavior, such as bed-wetting or soiling accidents unrelated to toilet training.

How can adults create a safe environment where children feel comfortable speaking up?

Having open and honest conversations with the child. Make sure to listen carefully to what the child is telling you and always make sure the child knows that you believe them, and if they disclose something has happened, remind them it is not their fault.

What are the most effective ways parents and caregivers can talk to children about body safety?

When talking to children about body safety, keep the conversation age-appropriate, use proper terms for body parts and emphasize that their bodies belong to them. Teach them about boundaries, safe vs. unsafe touches and that it’s okay to say no to uncomfortable situations, even if they are confused.

What is one step every reader can take to help protect children in their community?

Visit The CAC’s website www.cacgroc.org. The more the Rochester community understands the signs of abuse and how to prevent it, the safer children will be. Take time to learn how to be a safe adult, have difficult but necessary conversations about body safety and relationships, and know the steps to take if you suspect abuse. For additional resources, please visit the Parents & Caregivers section of The CAC’s website. If you have concerns about a child call 585-925-7800.

JEWEL OF ROCHESTER

For more than 150 years, Lollypop Farm has been at the center of compassion in our community. Founded in 1873, it is one of the oldest and most respected humane societies in the nation. Today, our mission remains clear: to build a more just and compassionate world for all animals.

With the support of the community, over 160 staff members and more than 1,000 volunteers care for approximately 10,000 animals every year.

OUR IMPACT IN 2024

• 4,093 animals found second chances in new homes.

• 2,448 animals received care through foster families.

• 9,123 surgeries performed at the Klingenstein Veterinary Clinic.

• 3,585 calls answered by Humane Law Enforcement.

• 71,646 pounds of pet food were distributed through the Pet Pantry.

• Community Veterinary Services: Offering resources such as low-cost vaccination clinics, spay/neuter support and guidance to keep pets healthy.

• Pet Pantry: Providing pet food and supplies to families in need twice a month through drive-up distribution.

• Lost & Found Services: Helping reunite lost pets with their families, including through our Lollypop Spotters Facebook group.

• Over 1,000 volunteers shared their time and talents to make this possible.

ANIMALS WE SERVE

Lollypop Farm provides care for more than cats and dogs. With extensive facilities and expertise, we also welcome small animals, reptiles, birds, farm animals and even horses.

FIREFIGHTER’S STORY

If ever a kitten earned the name Firefighter, it’s this brave little gray boy. Found staggering in the parking lot of a fire station, he was clearly very sick and in desperate need of help.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

• Every individual can make a difference:

• Adopt: Give a pet the loving home they deserve.

• Foster: Provide temporary care while animals heal and prepare for adoption.

• Donate: Support medical care, cruelty investigations and community programs.

• Volunteer: From walking dogs to helping with events, your time saves lives.

At just over two months old, Firefighter weighed only a pound. When he arrived at the Klingenstein Veterinary Clinic at Lollypop Farm, the team discovered just how much he had been battling on his own. He was dehydrated, underweight, suffering from conjunctivitis, covered in fleas and unable to eat because of painful ulcers in his mouth. To make matters worse, he even had a cuterebra (a type of parasite) in his neck, which was quickly removed.

Despite everything, this tiny fighter never gave up. With care, love and careful monitoring by our veterinary team, Firefighter began to heal and grow stronger day by day.

He still needs a little more time before he’s ready to be neutered and adopted, but when the time comes, Firefighter will spark joy and light a fire in someone’s heart forever.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

THE FUTURE: KINDNESS FOR ALL KIND

With the dedication of our community, we are building a brighter future where every animal has the chance for safety, compassion and love.

Graffiti Grows Up

In the hands of Berlin-based artist Simon Röhlen—better known as KEF!— a medium born in street scribbling finds a new, elegant stature.

Once dismissed as urban defacement, graffiti has undergone a radical evolution— from rebellious street expression to a celebrated form of contemporary art. Leading this transformation is German artist Simon Röhlen, better known by his tag, KEF!, whose fluid linework has redefined graffiti and secured a place for realm of refined aesthetics and international luxury.

The 36-year-old, Berlin-based artist has been channeling emotions with his art since he was 14. What began as traditional tagging evolved to a more abstract style inspired by nature, spirituality and Buddhist philosophy.

“One thing I wish more people understood is the feeling of harmony and stillness I try to convey,” KEF! says. “My work doesn’t reflect something figurative or material from the physical world—it’s about pure emotions. I want people to take a moment to disconnect from the material world and connect with a different, deeper level of feeling.”

His work has graced a variety of surfaces. It’s been seen in a powerful light display on murals during Berlin’s Festival of Lights in Hong Kong’s Park Lane Hotel and the Commerce Building in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He’s created bespoke interiors for global clothing retailers and a hand-painted Porsche Taycan Turbo S. KEF! envisions art as a universal language, one capable of “bringing people together through harmony and positivity.”

When he was 26, Germany-born graffiti artist KEF! adorned a city wall in London with a stunning lilac mural. The soft purple hue dominates the wall, evoking a sense of tranquility while drawing attention with intricate lines that weave through the space. “I’m inspired by organic shapes like waves, clouds and plants—forms that flow naturally and carry a sense of harmony,” he says.

KEF!—who selected the tag name when he found that in some language it means “scar in your skin”—became interested in art around age 14 as a way to express emotions that couldn’t be put into words. “Over time, my style evolved from tagging to more abstract, flowing forms inspired by nature, spirituality and the energy of street art.” This page: Flowers from a private collection in Germany. Opposite: “Another Dimension #3,” screenprint on paper.

“I always begin intuitively,” KEF! says of his art. “I never sketch or plan in advance—I just start with a line and let it flow. It’s a meditative process where I trust my hand and my inner state to guide the composition. Each piece is a reflection of the moment, created in real time without control or correction.”

MJ Love Stories

Bianca & Lukas

Currently living: Montclair, New Jersey

Date of engagement: August 16th, 2024

Date of wedding: June 28th, 2025

How they met:

Lukas first met Bianca at a New Year’s Eve party just before midnight as 2014 turned to 2015. A friend of Bianca’s made the introduction. At first glance, Lukas was speechless. His heart pounded heavy, and thoughts began to overwhelm him. He remembers saying to himself, “She is so beautiful I could marry her.”

The wedding attire:

About a year before getting engaged, Bianca saw a photo of a Dana Harel stunning Chantilly lace dress online. Once the two were engaged, Bianca found out that the designer was sold at a bridal shop very close to where they live. They were flying home to Rochester that night but thankfully the shop got her in for a last-minute appointment. Bianca rushed over with her mother and mother-in-law on Facetime to try on the dress and knew it was the one as soon as she put it on! Lukas’ wedding attire was all Ralph Lauren Purple Label.

The proposal:

Lukas brought Bianca to Nantucket for what she believed to be a birthday vacation. The morning after her birthday, Lukas, filled with anxiety, woke early and urgently requested they bike to the beach. After a 4-mile bike ride to Cisco Beach, Lukas reached into his pocket for the ring, and asked Bianca to be his wife.

The song that best describes their relationship:

“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli. It has quickly become a favorite of theirs. After taking a few months of dance lessons in preparation for their wedding, they can now do their wedding dance on cue and find themselves frequently singing it in the car.

A tradition they’re excited to create together:

Bianca and Lukas enjoy competing against one another on the golf course. They can be found walking the course in the evening. Games become competitive, there is plenty of banter and household chores are assigned to the loser. They look forward to continuing this tradition as their family grows.

The perfect day together:

Every perfect day begins with coffee in bed. After coffee, it’s a stroll to the farmer’s market for a week’s supply of produce and fish. Once the refrigerator is stocked, they head to the club to socialize at the pool and play a round of golf. The perfect day is concluded with an oversized Italian dinner and dessert.

Her favorite memory together:

After Bianca and Lukas had gotten engaged, they were in a location at the end of the island on Nantucket with no cell phone service. Since it was so early in the morning, they were the only ones on the beach. They watched surfers in the water, laughed, cried and enjoyed such an incredible moment together before calling both of their families.

His favorite memory together:

After nearly 10 years of dating, and five years of living together, there are plenty of memories to choose from. Some of Lukas’ favorite memories include traveling to new cities, trying new restaurants and laughing aimlessly during road trips.

The wedding venue:

The ceremony was at the Greek Orthodox Church on East Avenue followed by the reception at the Genesee Valley Club.

The wedding vibe:

Timeless elegance.

Their future dreams:

Continuing to grow their careers, family and simply enjoy life.

Meaningful details of the day:

Dominic Bozzelli and Alex Amalfi, the older brothers of Bianca and Lukas, appeared as the man of honor and best man at the wedding. This small detail emphasized the love of family Bianca and Lukas both have. And, instead of a corsage, Lukas wore a diamond feather brooch that his mom loaned to him for this meaningful day.

The morning of the wedding, Bianca gave her father an embroidered handkerchief with a special message. Knowing how emotional the day would be, Bianca thought it would be the perfect gift for him to remember the day.

The

rings:

Bianca and Lukas spoke about marriage frequently throughout their relationship. Bianca never missed an opportunity to show Lukas an engagement ring that she admired. Lukas silently observed and reported findings directly to Mann’s. The request: please find Bianca an elongated emerald-cut diamond with a simple platinum band. Mann’s Jewelers took care of the rest. Bianca’s wedding band is platinum with emerald-cut diamonds and Lukas’ ring is a classic band in platinum.

Jacob & Kailyn

Currently living: Fairport, NY

Date of engagement: March 16th, 2024

Date of wedding: May 25th, 2025

How they met:

They met while working as registered nurses at Rochester General Hospital in the operating room. Kailyn specialized in plastic surgery, while Jacob specialized in orthopedic spine. For two years, they grew to be very close friends. They’d eat lunch together, go for walks on breaks and constantly make each other laugh. At the end of those two years, on St. Patrick’s Day, they made plans with a mutual friend to meet at a brewery to get green beer. Their friend backed out of the plans but they decided to go anyway. Turns out the brewery didn’t have green beer, but what they did have was an unexpected first date.

The proposal:

If you ask Kailyn, she’d tell you she wasn’t surprised in the least that Jacob spent months planning the proposal. He arranged a long weekend in Burlington, Vermont, as a surprise two-year anniversary trip. They spent the weekend visiting local shops, the Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury and taking life slow.

On the second evening of the trip, he brought Kailyn to a secluded shoreline overlooking Lake Champlain, where he laid a blanket and prepared two glasses of champagne. They always joked about how amazing it would be to get married in one of their favorite places the Adirondack mountains. That evening, the sun fell behind a silhouette of the mountains across the lake, and Jacob dropped to one knee.

The rings:

Kailyn’s engagement ring is a solitaire oval-cut diamond, in a yellow gold band. Her wedding band is a diamond channel set band, also in yellow gold. Jacob’s wedding band is a textured, flat gold band. Kailyn’s wedding band is engraved with the

letter “J” on the inside and Jacob’s band is engraved with the letter “K.” Bonnie, at Mann’s Jewelers, was incredibly helpful and attentive from the selection of the engagement ring all the way to the altar!

Her favorite memory together:

A trip they took to Ireland during the summer of 2024. They explored the streets of Dublin, saw Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and traveled from one end of the country to the other. They visited many small towns across the country, had authentic Irish beer and the best Irish beef stew they’ve ever had.

His favorite memory together:

When he introduced Kailyn to his favorite place Lake Placid, NY. They spent the trip walking around the town, visiting breweries, and enjoying the views of fall foliage from the peak of Whiteface Mountain. They saw a wedding ceremony from the balcony of their hotel room on the lawn of the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, and on that day, Jacob knew he wanted to marry Kailyn, but had no idea he would be standing in the same place only a couple of years later.

The dress:

The dress—Pado, designed by NEWHITE—was the first dress Kailyn tried on at Lovely Bride in Victor, NY. It was meant to be.

The perfect day together:

Their perfect day together has happened many times. It looks like a day full of laughing, smiling and uninterrupted time at home with their cats. Sprinkle in a rainy day, a couple books and some delicious snacks and hit repeat the next day!

The wedding venue:

Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in Lake

Placid. Surrounded by the Adirondack mountains.

The wedding vibe:

Their wedding day was romantic, intimate and magical. The ceremony took place overlooking Mirror Lake surrounded by beautiful spring flowers, mountain ranges and their most cherished people.

The song that best describes their relationship:

One of the many things they bonded over was a mutual love for Dave Matthews Band. They’ve attended many of the band’s concerts together, and one day, the song “Here on Out” came on. Kailyn looked at Jacob and shared that if she was ever to get married, this would be her wedding song. This became the song they did their first dance to, and it was meaningful to them because lines like “Is it okay if I call you mine from here on out” and “when I fell into your eyes, I could not get out” describe their relationship so well.

Meaningful details of the day:

One of the most memorable details of their big day happened during the last song at the wedding reception. The DJ played “Love Story” by Taylor Swift, and all of their loved ones circled the dance floor and linked arms. All eyes were on them, and they never felt more love than in that moment. Toward the end of the song, Jacob lifted Kailyn into the air, and they spun in circles staring into each other’s eyes. The moment felt like it happened in slow motion and will forever be one of the most incredible memories they’ll ever share.

Their future dreams:

Their dreams for the future are simple. Grow alongside one another and build a family.

WHERE ELEGANCE LIVES

Interior designer Marshall Watson tells the homeowner’s story in all his creations— including his own Manhattan apartment.

The greatest artists were born to create. Mozart started composing music around 5 years old, roughly the same age when Monet began to draw and Michael Jackson first belted out tunes in public as a singer. That doesn’t mean, however, that artistry can’t be learned. Marshall Watson took the scenic route on his way to becoming one of New York City’s most esteemed interior designers. He dabbled in acting and engineering at Stanford University before “finding my way” to interior design at Fashion Institute of Technology. What did he learn? Through his studies, his inspirations and his experience, Watson today—now in his mid-60s—doesn’t follow a formula when creating his elegant interiors. Instead, every decision he makes is for the specific client.

“As a designer, I always have the same objective: answering the wants, needs, aspirations and fantasies of the people who will inhabit a home,” he says in his newest book, Marshall Watson: DefiningElegance (Rizzoli, $58) which he penned with Marc Kristal. His own home is no exception. When designing his apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Watson matched his skills with the dreams he shared with his husband, Paul. The results are on the pages that follow.

76 Mann’s In decorating his own Manhattan apartment, interior designer Marshall Watson paired the living-room sofa, which was inspired by Billy Baldwin Studio’s St. Thomas design, with acrylic side tables. Behind them are Baldwin’s original étagères for Cole Porter’s library.

This page: Watson and his husband, Paul, use an English rosewood center hall table for dining. The adjacent coffee table, made of nickel and walnut, is an ideal surface on which to rest novels and wine. Opposite: There’s plenty to see outside the apartment’s floor-to-ceiling windows as well as inside, including the lantern—which Watson designed himself—hanging above a walnut Regency desk and the late-18th-century Gustavian gilded mirror.

This page: For the primary bedroom, Watson designed the bedspread, the linens and the bed, with its canopy of 92 pleats. “My grandmother’s late 1600s Persian doors contrast wonderfully with the enveloping and comprehensive blue toile,” he says. Opposite: Wonderful curves relax the eyes on the way to the bathroom. A rounded slab of marble rises from behind the tub and flows into the decorated cabinets. “My grandfather’s violin hangs on the wall just outside the bath, and I find that the gentle curve of the instrument is mirrored in the shape of the marble.”

showtime!

Classic cars, couture and craftsmanship converge in the haute world of Concours d’Elegance.

Beneath the shade of aged oaks and against backdrops of historic estates or sparkling coastlines, the Concours d’Elegance is always more than just a car show. It’s both the most refined celebration of automotive beauty and the confluence of heritage, craftsmanship and connoisseurship. Here each car is not merely a machine, but a meticulously restored work of art. For those

who appreciate the subtleties of coachwork and the quiet prestige of rarity, the Concours offers an experience that transcends time. It’s not about speed or spectacle, but about perfection—and the pursuit of it. What keeps these events captivating, year after year, is the chrome and leather, yes, but also the stories they carry. Here are five of the world’s most prestigious events:

pebble beach concours d’elegance, pebble beach, california, u.s.a.

The grand finale of Monterey Car Week, this showcase has been one of the world’s premier classic car events since it debuted in 1950. Held on the picturesque 18th fairway at the storied Pebble Beach Golf Links course, the show features up to 200 rare, vintage and historically significant automobiles and attracts top collectors, automotive designers and enthusiasts from around the globe. The highly coveted “Best of Show” prize represents the pinnacle of automotive restoration and preservation, as vehicles are judged not only for authenticity and condition but also for historical accuracy and elegance. The Concours is celebrated worldwide for its blend of heritage, luxury and philanthropy, as it raises millions of dollars annually for local charitable causes such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, United Way Monterey County and Natividad Foundation.

concorso d’eleganza villa d’este, cernobbio, italy.

Inaugurated in 1929, this classic event has turned the edge of Lake Como into a celebration of style, history and craftsmanship. Set against the stunning backdrop of the 16th-century Villa d’Este, it showcases between 50 and 75 of the world’s most exceptional classic cars—such as 1930s Bugattis, mid-century Ferraris and avant-garde concept cars that blur the line between design and sculpture. The atmosphere is effortlessly chic: Guests in fine couture wander the manicured gardens, Aperol spritzes in hand, as automotive legends parade past during the Saturday Concours. On the second day, the gates of nearby Villa Erba open, offering a broader glimpse into this rarefied world. With its blend of vintage elegance, Italian charm and serious design pedigree, the Concorso is less about engines and more about aesthetics, lifestyle and living beautifully—where even the cars seem to dress for the occasion.

the amelia concours d’elegance, amelia island, florida, u.s.a.

Set beneath the moss-draped oaks of Florida’s Atlantic Coast, this show blends Southern charm with world-class automotive prestige. Held each March since 1996 at the elegant Ritz-Carlton and Golf Club of Amelia Island, the event attracts an eclectic mix of collectors, enthusiasts and casually curious beachgoers. Amelia has a relaxed, approachable spirit. Attendees chat with car owners, browse elegant sponsor lounges and take in the coastal breeze as around 200 historic vehicles roll across the lawn for judging. But make no mistake—this is serious concours territory. Expect everything from Le Mans-winning race cars to impeccably preserved Duesenbergs, alongside cutting-edge supercars and surprising one-offs. There’s also a full weekend of luxury events: auctions, test drives and panel talks with racing legends. Equal parts elegance and accessibility, Amelia is where high-octane heritage meets laid-back luxury—a celebration of design, detail and the joy of the drive.

greenwich concours d’elegance, greenwich, connecticut, u.s.a.

Just a short drive from Manhattan, this 30-year-old event offers a coastal escape with a distinctly East Coast flair. Held each May in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park—where sailboats drift offshore and the New York skyline feels a world away—it blends relaxed luxury with serious collector credibility. Over three days, the show presents a curated mix: Friday is a driving tour for concours entrants, Saturday is all about American muscle and custom builds and Sunday leans into European classics, elegant coachwork and historic racers. The atmosphere is polished but welcoming—expect perfectly tailored sportcoats and vintage sunglasses as well as kids sampling gelato between gleaming gull wings and immersive “ride and drive” experiences. Whether you’re here for the cars (about 150 of them), the community or the waterfront breeze, Greenwich delivers a boutique concours experience with big-league charm. It’s less about spectacle, more about stories—each car a chapter, each owner a character during a weekend where design, heritage and summer style take the wheel. The concours also supports charitable causes, including the Greenwich Boys & Girls Club and Greenwich Parks and Recreation, reflecting its commitment to community impact.

intoxicating beauty

Crafted with stunning aesthetics, today’s finest liquor containers are mood brighteners even before that first sip. But do taste what they hold.

In the world of fine spirits, artistry isn’t confined to what’s in the bottle—it often begins with the bottle itself. From hand-blown decanters to architecturally inspired vessels, today’s premium liquors are as much objets d’art as they are indulgent pours. Distillers and designers are collaborating as never before, creating limited-edition containers that marry craftsmanship with narrative, form with function. These

bottles command attention, invite conversation and often outlive their contents as collector’s items. Whether adorned with crystal, cloaked in leather or sculpted into surreal silhouettes, each design tells a story as nuanced as the spirit it holds. The curated selection below explores a mashup of aesthetic innovation and liquid luxury in which what you drink is rivaled only by what you’re drinking it from.

Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac

A legendary sip deserves a decanter that’s just as iconic, and the Louis XIII Magnum is unlike any other vessel. Each bottle is individually numbered and handcrafted with distinctive curves, dentelle spikes and a fleur-de-lys motif. The liquor, aged in Limousin oak, is just as memorable, with an aroma resembling honey and plum and a taste of passion fruit and dried roses. Its finish is long and lingering with notes of vanilla and oak.

Patrón En Lalique Serie 2 Tequila

The limited-edition release combines celebrated French crystal craftsmanship with one of the world’s finest tequilas. The bottle exhibits an Art Deco style created using Lalique’s time-honored techniques, representative of Patrón’s handcrafted spirit. Aged for eight years in American and French oak as well as sherry barrels, the tequila features an aroma with vanilla and oak notes, while the tastes of sweet honey and fruit are detected on the palate. The finish is long with hints of oak and agave.

Hardy Noces De Diamant

60-Year-Old Cognac

This six-decades-old cognac is a treat for the senses and a tribute to the place where it’s produced, France’s prestigious Grande Champagne district. To delight the eye, Hardy bottled the exquisite spirit in hand-cut Cristallerie des Vosges crystal decanters. Aged in Limousin oak, the cognac has spicy notes of bitter orange, prune and cinnamon on the nose. A silky texture with hints of orange and ginger caresses the palate, while the finish is smooth and long with traces of cinnamon.

Beluga Epicure Vodka

The Montenegro-based producer teamed up with French crystal house Lalique to design a decanter that symbolizes the two brands’ shared values. Only 1,000 examples of this handblown and polished bottle were released, and each one has an engraved number on its base. The premium vodka has an aroma with hints of grain and a freshness that promises superior taste. On the palate, each sip is smooth with slight citrus notes. Its long-lasting finish invites another sip.

Blanton’s 2020 Special Edition Single Barrel Bourbon Make any day feel like Derby Day when you reach for this elegant bottle. The timeless Kentucky design of this limited-edition release features a classic gold-andgreen palette, glossy gold foil and a gold horse and jockey. Inside is Blanton’s punchy, special-edition bourbon, which at 117 proof is higher than the standard original single barrel. It boasts notes of caramel, dark fruit and vanilla on the nose, with flavors of dried cherries, honey and vanilla on the palate.

exhale and fly easy

Today, even in a single-engine aircraft, thrills need not come at the price of safety.

The spirit of adventure goes hand in hand with real-life danger, and nowhere is that more apparent than with the single-engine personal aircraft. On one hand, the freedom of the skies opens up to you; on the other, this is a hobby that comes with no small measure of risk—and high-profile cautionary tales. But at the crossroads of adventure and danger, innovation is often born, and that’s just what the aviation company Cirrus has delivered with its Generation 7+ SR series.

These are the first ever single-engine piston aircraft to be equipped with a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved autonomous emergency landing system. That means that if there’s ever an emergency in the air, the pilot can engage the Safe Return Emergency autoland system and the plane will take over and land itself at the nearest safe runway.

Elements of autoland technology have been used in aviation for some time now. The Boeing 747, for instance, has sophisticated autoland systems to help its pilots touch down safely in low visibility or adverse weather conditions. Navigation tech company Garmin has been working on emergency autoland systems for more than 20 years, and there’s been success throughout the 2020s in incorporating them into high-end personal jets and turboprops. The system eluded the single-engine, piston-and-propeller plane, however, because of its inherently more analog nature—until now.

The SR Series G7+ weaves together advanced sensors, sophisti-

cated algorithms and automated flight control to land safely—and without further pilot input—at just a button-touch. After it takes control, the emergency autoland communicates with air traffic control, navigates to the nearest suitable airport, executes a landing, comes to a complete stop and shuts down the engine.

More technology? Large, clear screens on the dashboard display 3D images of ground features, water features, obstacles and traffic, regardless of weather conditions or time of day. Cirrus’s Global Connect system ensures that you can always access worldwide text messaging and telephone service. Bluetooth connectivity allows you to sync your mobile device for everything from accessing flight plans to streaming music.

That safety and tech don’t come at the cost of style, or of choices.

The SR Series G7+ offers three models: The SR 20, 22 and 22T. You can pick the engine strength that’s right for you (215, 310 and 315 horsepower, respectively) and cruise at 17,500 feet (though the 22T can get up to 25,000). You can choose between different handcrafted finishes and among dozens of color combinations for the outside and, if none of those suit you, Cirrus also offers custom paint options. Inside, the inviting cabin accommodates the pilot and up to four passengers with accent lighting and USB-C ports for easy charging access.

So don’t choose between safety and adventure. Opt for innovation, and you can have both. SR Series G7+ aircraft begin at $634,900.
