The Committee of Management visited our Ford Road dairy support unit in both September and December 2019 and inspected the new pastures and were briefed by Manager Alastair De Thierry on progress and future plans. We were so impressed with progress, we just had to take some photos for the Mailer. Here is our story of the development on Ford Road. It was decided over 10 years ago that more of the Ropiha dairy support unit should be converted to dairy. Also, the strategy was that WMI should be more self-sufficient in managing its dairy replacements, wintering of cows and production of grass silage. This was also good management for biosecurity of the farming enterprise. The Ford and Consul Road land was chosen for its flat-to-rolling contour allowing it to be cropped and harvested. The land had been logged and by the 31st of December 2008 had been cleared of any remaining young forest and the 2007 and 2008 logging slash had been raked into large heaps. During the first half of 2009 the property was fenced and water

reticulation was installed. The land was sown in pasture and some paddocks were cropped. The manager’s house was built and Alastair De Thierry moved in. Alastair has managed the farm since then. Part of Alastair’s role has been the management of the ongoing development. In October 2010 our shareholders visited the newly developed land for the first time. They were suitably impressed with the way that the development had happened and how the grass was growing. Our shareholders visited again in October 2016 and undertook tree planting. From the
