ginning at 10.30am and running through to 5pm. The event is free for spectators and is a great opportunity to see some of the rising stars of New Zealand motorsport in action against some of the karting heavyweights. Heats are divided into age and skill levels, with many promising drivers in each division. Fresh from Cadets is Jarod Fisher, now racing in Junior Restricted with Hannah Ross, a fresh face on the karting scene. In Juniors, Clark McFadzien is the Nelsonian to cheer on. Senior Yamaha includes drivers Jamie Smith, Kane and Aaron Adcock as well as Matt Butchard, who will also race in the open division. The Rotax Light will be thrilling with Brendon Gridley, David Hope, Kevin Barker and Jarred Brown of Nelson vying for first place. The best drivers from all over the South Island will converge in our region for the event, coming all the way from Christchurch and Invercargill. There will be action for all age groups with drivers as young as six through to their 60s getting behind the wheel. The Sunbelt Series is a great way for those interested in karting to find out what’s involved. It’s a fast paced and skilled sport that can be taken as a hobby, a skill, or a gateway to other disciplines, with Nelson’s very own V8 Supercars superstar Jason Richards beginning as a KartSport driver.
