Tasman District Council has sold the former Brightwater Bowls Club rooms to the Wanderer’s Community Sports Club for just $100. The clubrooms was gifted to the
council when the bowls club folded and Wanderers have been looking to purchase the building since 2019. Marty Davis, who spearheaded efforts to buy the building, says he was absolutely rapt that the resolution to transfer ownership was passed last Thursday. Marty recently retired as Wan-
derer’s Sports Club director of sports but says he couldn’t be happier. “It is a wonderful gesture from the TDC,” says Marty. “It will be a massive benefit for Brightwater and beyond.” The resolution to transfer ownership of the former bowls club building in Brightwater to Wan-
derers Community Sports Inc (Club) was carried, with the cost to Wanderers Community Sports Club $100 plus GST. As yet, no specific date has been agreed on for the transfer. Appleby School gets behind sustainability Jo Kent Chickens roaming the school yard and students planting more than 300 trees have helped a local school earn the title of Enviroschool. Appleby is the latest Tasman school to become an ‘Enviroschool’, bringing the number in the region to 30. By joining the programme, the school has committed to become more sustainable for future generations. Teacher Talia Ryan says they’ve already introduced many measures to become more environmentally aware. “We’ve planted over 300 trees, including edible fruit trees, outside classrooms which the kids can eat, and we’ve now got three chickens, too.”
