The growth of Wakefield From a little community in the back and beyond, Wakefield is now a thriving village that continues to grow in the number of residents and businesses. With a vet, pharmacy, bakery, supermarket, service station and garage, that also offer an ATM, a school, hairdressers and a handful of hospitality businesses, you could almost say that Wakefield has it all. Diana Wilkins and her brother John are one of the village’s recent additions, Diana not only purchasing a home in the area, but also establishing a business. “I had already bought a property in Tahuna that I had been working on and was getting ready to move into,” says Diana. “[But then] this house came on the market [in Wakefield] and I thought, I have to

buy it.” After getting to know the area, Diana also decided to establish The Elegant Frog with her brother John. “I have a passion for vintage and my brother is very good at repairing and refurbishing. I felt the need to do something and I felt the need to fill this space because it’s been sitting empty for some time,” says Diana. The shop specialises in pre-loved vintage items which Diana hopes people will enjoy exploring. Diana also wishes to help new home owners with affordable and wellmade furnishings. “To me the old stuff is far better made and if we can recycle it and provide it at a price they can afford, we can make life easier for them.” New home owners are certainly
