WORSHIP IN A BOX

Seventh-day Adventist Church Western Australia

WORSHIP IN A BOX WELCOME

Welcome to the Easter Online, interactive and intergenerational worship pack. These worship packs are designed to give you some ideas that you could use in small groups or in your own family worship. They are designed to fit in with the main themes of our online worship experience – Easter Online 2021.

You can pick and alter any of the elements you want to, based on what suits

the people in your setting. They are designed to start and develop conversations around the themes of the life and death of Jesus and what it means to all of us. Feel free to alter this or do something completely different, so long as it helps the people in your group grow closer to our Saviour and share His love with others.

Each of these packs contains enough craft materials for about 4 people, but other materials for up to 15 (a small group). If you would like to reproduce this for your family or for larger groups, here is the list of materials that we have included and where they can be sourced from: Play dough – Red Dot, Kmart, Reject Shop, etc.

Paper plates – Supermarkets Paper fasteners – Officeworks, Spotlight Popsticks – Red Dot, Reject Shop, Craft shops, Officeworks Paper/card, cellophane, contact – Newsagents, Officeworks, Craft shops Printing for craft and activity - Available for download on our website Word Searches - one for each day (for each person who wants to do one) – Available for download on our website We hope you all grow in faith and love this season. WORSHIP IN A BOX

JESUS' DEATH Discussion

1. Think about the disciples when Jesus died, or the characters in the drama - Luke (who was missing Josh), or the others who were missing camp. Have you ever had a time where you lost someone or something you cared about? Share this experience with the group. 2. Read John 12:24. How does this resonate with you? 3. What could you do differently to help someone who is going through loss or grief?

Wanting more interaction? Get everyone to use playdough, lego, blocks, nature (if you are outside) etc. to build something that represents your answer to the question. You can do this for each discussion this weekend!

Activity - Four Corners Game

Objective: To take as many balloons or popsticks from other people, and have the most at the end of the game. Setup: Equipment required: Balloons or popsticks Have four teams/people Each group starts in one corner of the game area. In each corner, place a collection of balloons or popsticks Rules: Each person must run or walk to another corner and take one object at a time. They then bring that balloon or popstick and place it in their corner (and repeat) Repeat (until the time runs out - you pick how long) Safety: Remember no pushing, shoving or hurting other people. Watch out especially for young players. Also make sure the area is clear of any trip hazards. Options: If you want to try a different version of the game you can alter it with these changes: Objective is to give away your objects, not take them from others. The winner is the person or the team who gets rid of all their objects first. Discussion Point: How does it feel to lose something you want? How is that similar to how the disciples must have felt when they lost Jesus?

Doing this by 2pm the next day will put you in the running for the prize. The winner will be announced by 7pm the next day and be contacted directly. The prize for each day is a $30 Westfield gift card (useable in any shop).

DAY ONE - FRIDAY CREATE A CROSS

Materials: A5 piece of cardstock (14.8cm x 21cm) Pre-cut cellophane pieces 2 x contact sheets (17cm x 22.5cm) Scissors Ruler (Optional - can be used to measure out cross shape) Instructions: 1. Draw cross shape onto the piece of cardstock - you can do this freehand or use a ruler to create 5x5cm squares at the two top corners of the card and 5x11cm rectangles at the bottom corners. 2. Cut out the cross shape. Fold the cross in half vertically. Cut out the centre area of the cross, leaving a 1-2cm boundary. To make this easier you can draw a smaller cross within the original cross. 3. Unfold the cross and place in the centre of the contact sheet. Make sure the adhesive side of the sheet is facing upward! 4. Place the cellophane pieces on to the 'open' area of the cross, making sure to cover all the adhesive area within the white border. 5. Place the second contact sheet on top of the cross, so the adhesive side adheres to the other adhesive sheet. 6. Trim the excess contact, flip over and enjoy your new stained glass cross!

JESUS RESTED Discussion

1. Reflect on the disciples or the family in the drama, and their experiences of Sabbath. Do you ever feel as though your Sabbath is not quite what God intends? Share this with the group. 2. Read Matthew 11:28 - 30. What is significant in this story/verse to

you? 3. How could you celebrate the Sabbath to realise more of the blessing?

Activity - Days of Creation Treasure Hunt

Objective: For the people to find the hidden 'days of the week' cards that have been included in your area. Process: Use the 'days of the week' cards included. Hide them around your area (campsite, house, church etc.). Preferably hide the cards before worship time has started. When the time comes, ask any children to go find the cards, and bring them back to the group. When each of the seven cards have been found, get the group to put them in the correct order they were made. Tips: Make sure they are hidden where the finders can find them - for example, don't hide them anywhere too high. Remember where you hid them yourself so you can give them hints if they are struggling. Discussion Point: Out of all the things God has made, what are your favourite? What would be some things your group/family could do together that would make Sabbath a bigger blessing for yourselves and/or others?

WORSHIP IN A BOX JESUS ROSE

Discussion

1. Thinking about how the disciples reacted to Jesus' resurrection and Luke's (the son) excitement of his friend coming for a visit. Share a time when you have been surprised by some wonderful news.

2. Read Matthew 28:5 - 7. How do you understand this verse? 3. What could you do to help others experience the joy of the resurrection of Jesus? Wanting more interaction? Get people to act out how they could apply their learning (perhaps in pairs). You could let the others guess your answer or just tell them.

Activity - Trust Fall

Objective: To have people experience what it is like to trust in something you can't see. Process: Have the person stand with their arms crossed and their eyes shut. Get someone to stand behind them. This person is the 'catcher' and they will be responsible for making sure the other person is not injured. They should get ready to catch them, preferably with on leg behind them as a brace for the added weight. When both people are ready, the 'catcher' lets the other person know that they can fall. The person in front then 'falls' backwards, trying their best to maintain a straight back, and leaving their feet firmly in place. The 'catcher' then supports them and gently pushes them back into an upright position. Safety: Make sure that the person falling only does so when the other person is ready. Make sure that the person catching is able to physically support the falling weight of the person (having a child trying to catch an adult will be dangerous). If necessary, get an extra person to help catch them. Discussion Point: How did it feel having to trust in someone when you couldn't see them? How hard do you think it was for some of the first disciples to trust that Jesus was alive even though they hadn't seen Him yet?

WORSHIP IN A BOX JESUS ROSE

Craft - The Empty Tomb

See today's craft materials bag for instructions.

Key Verse - Matthew 28:5 - 7

"But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead, and behold, He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him. See, I have told you.”

Create an opening for the paper fastener in both the plate and the cut out 'stone' shape. Keep in mind that there needs to be an overlap. 4. Connect the plate and shape together using the paper fastener. 5. Glue the two pieces of the plate together around the top outer edge. 6. Cut away any excess so the plates and the 'stone' will be able to sit level on a surface. 7. Colour in the Jesus cut out and trim around the edges. 8. Glue the cut out to the top of a popstick. 9. Attach the popstick to the back of the two plates so Jesus appears to be behind the empty tomb.
