Letter from the Editor

Hello All,

And a very warm welcome to the May edition of the WAC on Track. I say warm because I am hoping for some warmer weather, although my husband seems to have somehow missed the memo about the ski season being over (it seems the solution is simply to travel further and higher!), I, on the other hand, have signed up to take part in Kellie’s Tomatopalooza at the WAC and am feeling optimistic for some suitably tomato nurturing temperatures…. Fingers crossed

Many thanks to all who have contributed to this issue, your work is always appreciated :)

Happy May Everyone!

Note from the Board

Dear WAC Members,

“Spring is in the air!” is what I thought after the bad skiing season when the days become longer and sunnier. So I thought..

Since then March has passed and April is nearing its end. The days are indeed longer. It is during these days that I fall back to the Dutch tradition of complaining about the weather! In a strange way this annual ritual of mine makes me feel at home. Last year, Spring was sunny. However, it was far too warm for the time of the year! Having improved my German and Swiss-German language skills through the Learning Tree School courses, which I am highly recommending to all my friends, I feel more comfortable to complain also in the local language. It is great to share and I noted that the Swiss are more Dutch than they may like to admit: “Das Wetter ist nicht gut!”.

But undoubtedly one of the best things for me last Spring (2022) was starting to work as the Secretary to the WAC Board. I never expected that this gave me the opportunity to get to know this many energetic and enthusiastic people. It was great doing something else besides taking care of the family.

It is very rewarding to help organize, support and participate in the numerous successful WAC events. I love the energy of the volunteers (and dare I say the delicious food from the different events!). But the weather was still too warm (in 2022)!

Since April, the roles of the WAC Board President and the WAC Board member for Marketing are still vacant and I can only blame the cold Spring till date for this. If you also want to have the opportunity to get to know and work with energetic and enthusiastic people, please do let us know and we can give you additional information around these roles. I promise, I will not complain about the cold weather too much!

Wishing you all a happy and healthy (and dear I say “warmer”) May!

Best Wishes,

Library News

An update from the WAC library. My name is Giedre and I'm the new Library chair for the next term. For those who are not very familiar with me, a short introduction. I'm from Lithuania, a small but proud country by the Baltic sea with rich history, almost 3 million basketball experts and unpronounceable names. I moved to Switzerland in 2017 as a trailing wife after spending 5 years previously living and working in London (UK) as a market research manager for pharmaceutical industry.

I'm part of the WAC family since 2018, when I started coming to playgroups, a year or so later I discovered the library. Now both my girls enjoy coming to preschool or explorer classes, and together with me like to browse in the library looking for new stories to read.

In the coming weeks the busy library team will continue working on relabeling our books and scanning them into the digital database which soon becomes available to browse and reserve online. We will keep expanding our selection of children books, comics, DVDs and potentially introducing a section of periodicals and English speaking tonies. We greatly appreciate all the donations coming our way and are sending a heartfelt THANK YOU. If you think you can contribute to the library (with your time or in-kind), do speak with one of the team or send an email to library.wacuster@gmail.com and we can discuss all the possibilities. We hope to send
