West Africa has been blessed with an abundance of aquatic plants and animals, including different species of fish, sea turtles and mangroves. Unfortunately, many are seriously threatened by human activities such as overfishing, poaching and the cutting down of mangrove forests for firewood and other purposes. Worse, the same coastal resources being depleted are critical for the livelihoods of millions of West Africans, particularly those living along the coast.
“The Curse of the Sacred Mangroves” shows the importance of preserving plan and animal life found in our coastal regions, and how all living things play vital roles directly beneficial to us and our ecosystems.
