Folkestone Skabour Festival celebrates its 10th Anniversary on the 13th, 14th, 15th September. It is quite an incredible achievement that Skabour has reached its 10th year and run entirely by our small group of local unpaid volunteers doing it for the love of ska, rocksteady, reggae and the Town.

Take into account that we also manage the financial risk involved then some might think we are quite bonkers… and we probably are… but hey it is still going and delivering a happy time to the many locals and visitors from all over the world. The main venue and Skabour home is again the Grand Burstin Hotel at Folkestone Harbour. Along with the harbour pubs joining in with the festival with their own DJs and bands. There is FREE entry 12 (mid-day) till 5pm on both Friday and the Saturday. This is subject to capacity and by wristband registration available from the festival desk.

For those who wish to experience the evening magnificent main headliners and bands, bookings are available directly from our website: www.skabour.co.uk There is a touch of real roots Jamaican ska style with our headliners and a line up that includes one of the greatest bands to come out of Jamaica The Pioneers are back here in Folkestone and their many hits ie Long Shot, Jackpot, Let Your Yeah Be Yeah,Time Hard etc. Backing band are the Ruff Cuts.

Other headliners include Gaz Mayall & The Trojans, Goldmaster Allstars and the mighty Channel One Sound System.

The Skatonics return along with King Zepha. The Simmertones from the west country debut. Arthur Kay’s Akoustik Jukebox play along with other Kent bands The Skastards, Jimmy & The Riddles and Hey Maggie.

Friday and Saturday sees the “After Party Nite Klub” in the hotel basement from 10pm till late for booking residents and Skabour members subject to capacity. Sunday morning will have a matinee showing of the classic film “The Harder They Come” starring Jimmy Cliff. Many DJs feature sets throughout the long weekend.

Our famous annual Skabour classic scooters and clubs meet at the Grand Burstin Pitstop for our annual “ride out” which has competition trophy prizes at mid-day Saturday. Don’t forget to see and have a selfie with the 2 Tone Ska Dog outside the main entrance of the Grand Burstin Hotel.

The Grand, Folkestone, Old Timer Rally Bank Holiday Monday 26th August Oldtimer’ is the modern Continental English for ‘classic car’. Car rallies have been held at the Grand at least since 1896 (just before the first London-Brighton run); the first one marque car rally ever was held here in 1933, for Rileys (one of the Riley brothers lived locally); in 1964 there were more Rolls-Royces per head of population in Folkestone than any other town in the world, and in the 70s the rally became established as the Rolls-Royce Parade. In the 80s & 90s it became part of the local authority sponsored Airshow.

In the 21st century the main rally has reverted to its roots as the Oldtimer Rally – a good day out for participants and anyone else who wishes to visit and enjoy the atmosphere. Its situation, on The Leas in front of The Grand, is probably one of the finest such spots anywhere in the world, with a backdrop of majestic late Victorian and Edwardian buildings and views across the busy shipping lanes of the English Channel to France on clear days. And clear days they usually are – since the summer heat waves of the mid 70 there has almost invariably been fine weather on the day of the rally save for 2014 & 2015!

2019 sees the inclusion of an Arts & Crafts Vintage Fair with over 65 stalls and Miss Holiday Swing live on stage in addition to the hundreds of superb classic cars from home and abroad.
