Women's History Month started as Women's History Week in 1982. Congress passed a law in 1987 designating the month of March as Women's History Month. Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of proclamations about the monthly celebration in order to recognize the contributions women have made to U.S. history.

Since it was instituted, we have seen both leaps forward and steps backward as we have forged careers and fought for equal pay and adequate representation in leadership. While we still have a way to go, we have a lot to be proud of!

The theme for Women's History Month 2025 is Moving Forward Together, which brings to mind the force of us moving together AS WOMEN, not women in a man’s world. In our bid for equality, we have lost a sense of our sacred femininity as mothers, healers, stewards of the earth, and spiritual guides. We have forgotten how powerful those qualities are in shaping the world around us, and whether we are conscious of it or not, we are longing to reclaim our birthright as women.

The reinstitution of the Sacred Feminine isn’t a weird “out there” concept but, instead, a necessity in re-establishing women as equals. Not only regarding equal pay, but also to be respected for the very qualities that make us women. It’s part of finding our voice, owning our power, and understanding our purpose.

This month offers us a moment to reflect on the incredible strides women have made throughout history and to acknowledge the challenges that still lie ahead. Together we can build a future that honors our past while creating new pathways for generations to come. We don't want to be women in a man's world; we want to be seen for what we have to offer as women!

It probably wasn't intentional, but March is a symbolically appropriate month to celebrate women. As the spring equinox approaches—a time when the days and nights are the same length—we are inspired to reclaim the balance in our lives, and by extension, the balance in our communities.

Currently, many women feel the threat of having rights and privileges we have fought hard for removed. It can be discouraging. However, we challenge you to spend some time this month not only remembering the inspiring women in your life, but considering what being a woman means to you! Perhaps take time to journal your thoughts, and explore how you can strengthen your connection to the sacred feminine.
