Q: Starting off, congratulations on an amazing regular season. How does it feel to have been playing football for RBHS and do you plan to take that football path further in your life?
A: It was an honor to play for RB in their football program and it was amazing every time I ran out on that field wearing our uniform. I will try to stick with football as much as I can, but for now, hanging out and playing alongside my friends is the best thing I can ever have.
Q: What is something that you have learned on the team that you’ll always remember?
A: Something I learned on the team is that even if we fail or we struggle, we must always pick ourselves back up and keep fighting; even if others don’t believe in you.
A: Coach McCoy not only is an amazing coach, but he is also a great mentor and role model. He taught us how to be better Broncos and people through life lessons and values. He hopes we carry this on into our daily lives. With this being his last year, players connected with him and looked up to him as more of a family member, like we were all a "band of brothers".
Q: During the start of the football season, what is a goal that you wanted to accomplish before the end?
A: During the start of the season, I made a goal for myself that I would work hard for a spot on the field and improve upon myself to become a better athlete and fight through adversity. With the little experience I have playing football, I wanted to keep building on what I learned last year and working hard to perfect my craft and help the team however best I could.
Q: How did you feel when appointed as the new ASB director?
A: I was so excited. I got approached last year about it and I immediately thought it was a great idea, we never had ASB in the East Coast. It’s totally different and I’m learning on the fly a lot. There were a lot of things I never understood but now I get it because now I’m the ASB advisor. It’s very exciting as I’m learning on the fly. It’s a lot of fun in the process.
Q: What has being a teacher taught you?
A: Oh, so much. Being a teacher, just how to be empathetic and understanding to other people. The reason why I wanted to be a teacher is because I love helping people. Love helping people learn and inspiring people. Now as an ASB advisor I’m learning so many different things like I learned different things about my students. So I would say more so when I was a teacher I would look at students in an aspect of teaching them Spanish or teaching them how to get into college with AVID. As an ASB advisor, I feel like I’m learning about who you are as a person and not like an academic student. So learning about what students like to do in their life
Q: If you could describe the students in ASB in one word, what would that be?
Via @therbhsstable
A: Passionate.
Q: What was your experience helping with the student section at FNL?
A: It was fun, it was a lot of fun. It was so different, very energetic. There’s just a lot of energy and like passion. This team bonding happens at FNL and brings our student body together. We have a gift at our school’s student section that a lot of other high schools don’t have that matched energy.

Winter Formal, in February right around Valentine’s day. Make sure students don’t take their vacations too early, February 11th (Save that date broncos!) The prom is going to be happening again in May. No Broncochella but, some more details are under wraps. We don’t want Broncochella to die so it’s going to be an every-other-year event.
Q: Do you plan to return to teaching Spanish?
A: If the opportunity comes back to me, yes. I do miss teaching Spanish. I love teaching ASB. Spanish is always part of my passion. I get to learn more about myself and especially when studying abroad as a Junior in college in Spain. So that always holds a deep place in my heart. All of our Spanish classes at RB are fun and the experiences we get to share with the students.

Interviews with students who were able to purchase
For this issue we decided to interview various fans who had attempted to purchase tickets for one of her upcoming August shows First spoken to was Viviana Campos, who ultimately did end up walking away that day with four Taylor Swift tickets We spoke to them about their experience. "Did you get Verified Presale?" Viviana was asked They said that although they did get the original Verifed Presale priviledge for 10 am, they were not even able to try for tickets until about 3:30 later that day
Despite the similar situation, many other fans were not as successful Some conversation with Kadence Stevens questions whether or not Ticketmater had handled the situation properly. "I was really stressed and my phone almost died so many times," she claims. "I brought 3 portable chargers with me to school and most of them ended up dying on the way. But it was like, ‘ am I gonna get tickets,’ but I ended up not getting tickets because it was too late. "
When asked if she thought that Ticketmaster had handled the situation well, Kadence agreed that they definetly did not She thought that Ticketmaster is a very beneficial website to the Live Music Industry when done correctly, though "it's really unreliable due to the amount of people, and the website always crashes. So it’s like a flip-flop usually " Sofia Carter thought the same, and said that "it definitely needs to be regulated because Ticketmaster is obviously not the most honest as far as their tickets are going to verified fans." She also goes on to say that, "they also were not very honest with Swifties and other people that wanted to buy tickets " It seems that many fans had similar experiences with this mess, with some differing results
Q: How did you want this event to differ from last year’s and past years' homecomings when planning it?
A: This year’s homecoming, we wanted to emphasize that it was going to be an indoor gym. In years pasts, pre covid, we had indoor dances. Students really liked the effect of having an indoor & outdoor dance so it was really something I wanted to make sure we have the difference in. Just the variety all in all as it changes the atmosphere & ambiance, the experience itself.
Q: For the future homecoming, what would you want to change to make the experience better for the students?
A: I would definitely add some more activities for students in addition to the dance floor. Broncochella had different sorts of ideas, so definitely more visitor friendly to students who are not also just dancing.
Q: How was your homecoming when you were in high school?
A: My homecoming, I actually remember one of them, I grew up in New York. Our homecomings were a little different. I remember in school we had a giant field day. We never had a club rush in my high school but that was probably the closest thing to club rush, so all the clubs got together. We had like a half day of school where the second half of school was all for homecoming so it was a pep rally. Really different. All the clubs met in the cafeteria and my school was indoors, we would all make
Spyliosfood for the school and sell it. Every club was part of a different lunch activity so I was president of the Spanish club where we did tacos in a bag. All of us did it for a huge fundraiser and then we would have a huge football game, I was in marching band. Then we had a big dance in our gym so it was kind of similar in a way.
Dominick Via @therbhsstable Via @therbhsstableQ: How did it feel to gain that extra point against MC? Making RB win.
A: Scoring that extra point was amazing, it gave us a big boost and helped us out tremendously.
Q: With the student section showing up at the games, do you feel like they give you that extra motivation?
A: Student section hypes us up a lot and we feel very proud when we show out in front of them, even if there are only like ten people there.
Q: Did you go to homecoming the next day? If you did, how was your experience? If not, how did you spend the next day after the game?
A: I didn’t go to homecoming the next day, but I went with some of the guys from the team the next night to go out and celebrate the win.
Luc Oujo (Junior, Varsity Football) Via Photos & Media - rbfootball.org Via Photos & Media - rbfootball.org VS. MC MC MCActivism has become more and more relevant in the lives of teenagers and young adults today. Whether it's joining a club at school, being present at a protest, or simply speaking up about social injustices, activism has spread like a wave over our generation. Students and young adults take part in advocating for a variety of causes, from mental health to systemic racism. Within our own generation, a well-known leader is Greta Thunberg, a 19-year-old girl from Sweden. She is well-known for challenging global leaders to address the effects of climate change and global warming. 23-year-old Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer is yet another leader of our generation who passionately advocates for LGBTQ+ rights. Schafer is most known for fighting against transphobia as a trans person herself.
Various young leaders at RBHS have found their niche by taking charge of clubs that address and challenge students to tackle social issues and engage with the world around them. To gain more insight into the motivations of our campus's bright, young activists, we interviewed leaders from NextGen Politics and Fight Against Hunger.
"You are never too small to make a difference."
-Greta Thunberg
We met with the Vice President of NextGen, Yanel Siqueiros. Yanel is a senior, a captain of Advanced Universal Movement, a Bronco Ambassador, and a Peer Counselor. We asked why she thinks it's important that younger generations get involved in leadership roles. Yanel explains that leadership roles allow us to develop skills that could deeply benefit us in the future: “Being a leader teaches us how to effectively communicate, work efficiently with others, and lets us consider how certain decisions affect others rather than just ourselves”. Yanel expresses that her leadership titles have taught her to listen to input from others and how to implement it into goals the group or team is wishing to achieve.
Another group of students who have made their efforts known these past couple of months is Fight Against Hunger. We met with the President, Elise LaFreniere, to discuss her insight on the importance of leadership. Elise is a Junior and is also Secretary of Key Club along with being President of Fight Against Hunger. She pointed out how leadership roles can feel intimidating to high schoolers,
but she's also learned about the importance of stepping up as a leader: “Gaining experience in leadership roles early on in life genuinely has been an equally great challenge and opportunity for me. Despite the fact that, at times, being a leader and taking on larger responsibilities when you’re still a kid can be daunting, it brings great experiences that make it all worth it." Elise explained that as President, organizing different events such as food drive is not easy, but despite the challenges she faces, making a difference in society is what makes it all worth it.
No matter how many young activists there are, the world will always need more and more. Our youthful spirits drive us to work for and believe in a better future, and the world's up-and-coming leaders for change can take inspiration from today's young activists and their constant fights for what matters to them. For every climate change fighter, there needs to be an advocate for prison reform, mental health, and the countless other issues that the world continues to battle.
No issue is too small or big as long as a passionate spark is there. With even a flicker, you can set the whole world ablaze through patience, determination, and synergy. So get involved! Join a new club, participate in a protest, or simply start the conversation on the issues you care about. Regardless of how young or insignificant you feel, activism begins with a voice, and your voice can change the world.
AFTER MUCH HARD WORK, THE RANCHO BERNARDO ROYAL REGIMENT HAS PULLED THROUGH WITH FIRST PLACE AT THE SCSBOA 6A CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, WITH A SCORE OF 95 20
Q: How did you feel going into the marching season this year?
A: Confident! Coming out of last years win, it felt like motivation. I wanted that feeling again!
Q: How do you feel about the hands that the program is going into next year?
A: The younger members have definitely improved and it's going into amazing hands! I'm so glad this is the group of people it's going into.
Congratulations to the amazing efforts put in by the RBHS Dance Program. We cannot wait until the next concert in Spring! In the meantime competition season is right around the corner. Good luck!! Lets go Broncos!
The 2022 Winter Dance Concert was definitely one for the books and a night to remember. What outstanding performances given by TDF, JV, Universal Movement, JV Hip Hop, Intermediate, BBoys, and of course our beloved MTDF! This night was a very special night as it's the first winter concert for newcomer and dance director, Rachel Banks and a comeback concert for Mich Jacoby who spent last year helping out with ASB. The dance concert took over an hour and let me tell you my twelve dollars did not go to waste at all Out of the three days the concert was held, Friday was the most hyped and best experience yet. Everyone was given glow sticks and the crowd was cheering on every single performance. At the end of the concert majority headed straight to In N Out to celebrate this successful night, which gave an FNL feels with a twist.

As teenagers, the media we consume is crucial to how we view ourselves and others. This is why it's so important to have proper representation of marginalized groups in media
The dictionary definition of 'accurate representation' is, "faithfully representing or describing the truth." However, in today's society, it's often left up to interpretation One person's idea of perfect representation could be an awful depiction in someone else's eyes. So, now the definition is something more like, "how societal aspects such as race, gender, age, nationality, social issues, etc. are represented." Although these things are also up to interpretation, extremely inaccurate or harmful depictions can have serious effects on how marginalized groups are seen So what are are some examples of accurate and inaccurate representation?
It's no secret that in the early 2000's and earlier televisions companies were less than willing to include minorities in their media However, as time has gone on more and more shows and movies have featured marginalized communities. Two shows we will be comparing are Glee (2009) and Heartbreak High (2022)
Both shows were praised for their inclusion, but did both shows portray accurate and positive representation? Let's start with Glee
Glee was a big hit with young queer people and those interested in the performing arts Glee included high school age characters of ranging ethnicities, religions, gender identities, sexualities, and more So, this hit close to home with students who feel different from their peers. However, while including these differences they tended to often rely on stereotypes and inaccurate assumptions. A couple examples of this include the neurotic and terrified Emma Pillsbury with obsessive compulsive disorder, Kurt Hummel claiming bisexuality doesn't exist, and the two main plot points of Tina Cohen-Chang and Mike Chang being that they are both Asian So, this show is well loved and did great at breaking down the walls leading to inclusive media. But, there is still so much room to grow.
Released this year, Heartbreak High has been a hit on Netflix and has already been renewed for another season. People are fans because of the diverse cast and characters and story line tying into real world events like police violence Heartbreak High covers topics of gender, sexuality, neurodivergency, and more. And portrays them with grace and accuracy. Of course one character will not be an accurate representation for everyone. But many on the internet have shared their happiness in the existence of characters like Quinni, an autistic character, being portrayed not just based on overused stereotypes

New York in the 1980s was the epicenter of many movements, innovations, and liberal protests. In the center of these changing times were artists more famously known for their street art. But what exactly is street art?
The idea of street art became popular throughout
the 1980s due to the social concepts they could convey. Modern artists in the 1980s created to spread awareness about topics such as racism, classism, and homophobia as the AIDS crisis grew. Andy Warhol for example, became very involved in commercial art and built his career around painting figures of Pop Culture as well as images depicting a consumer America. Warhol's clique consisted of many other New York artists, but most often involved artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Basquiat specifically stands as one of the most influential artists of all time, being a large influencer in the AfricanAmerican movement against prejudice as well as beneficially changing the world of modern art.
A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tilllie Cole is a great young adult romance novel, perfect for all of you who enjoy reading romance novels. However, even if that isn't a genre you prefer, I believe this novel is so much more than a story about love. It's about pain, strength, and faith. This novel revolves around a girl named Poppy and a boy named Rune The story starts off when they are both just children, and as it goes on, they transform into young adults. They start of as best friends, but around middle school Rune is forced to move back to Norway, where he is originally from. They promise to keep in touch, but Poppy suddenly stops all communication. As the story unfolds, the reason behind her silence comes to light, and everything starts quickly unraveling. If you choose to read this, get your tissues ready. -
This 2008 novel begins with an epic all-night adventure shared between high school seniors Quentin "Q" Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman. The next day, Q finds that Margo Roth has run away from home. Following Q's whirlwind hunt for Margo Roth, this book gives the reader both a mystifying curiosity and the satisfaction of watching Q realize his feelings for Margo Roth. Not only is this book a romance, but it is a great teenage coming-ofage adventure. With all of the nostagia that comes with early-2000s young adult fiction, this book will appeal to all of you readers that enjoy mysteries, adventure, and romantic comedies.

The dance program took RBHS by storm once again with their winter concert. The theme being “How RBHS Dance stole Christmas!” As usual every dance number was well thought out and performed beautifully. Some of my favorites were “Permanent Plus One” (Addie Fortney), “Bag of Bones” (Ashley Hull), “Feeling Good” (JV), “Lose my Breath” (Varsity Universal Movement), and “Applause” (TDF). Every single dancer danced with elegance, excitement, and passion. However, I do wish I saw more of the other teams. Understandably our school has 6 dance teams and obviously the concert can’t be 3 hours long.
Still, I would enjoy more coverage on other teams. I also think it shouldn’t be labeled on the program that TDF presents the concert, rather than the whole dance program. Since there’s so many teams and we're seeing every team perform, I find it logical to give credit to the other teams. Regardless, the dance program did an excellent job as usual. The program always brings a special kind of magic on the stage every time a dancer walks onto it. I can’t wait to see the next concert come spring. However in the meantime we can wait in anticipation for the next stunning performance to take place.

Throughout the week, a multitude of Ivy League schools have announced their decision to lower their acceptance rates quite drastically This left many questioning the integrity of the University application process, policy, and more However, these were all answered by the MLA format, 10-page, on-demand essays that the Presidents of the respective schools wrote and sent out Wednesday night.
With a previous acceptance rate of 5%, most would assume that there wouldn’t be much room for Harvard to go lower. It appears they were mistaken. President of Harvard College, Lawrence Bacow, announced that it would now stand at -2.8%. This means that on an annual basis, the University would expel 2 8% of its students, not including seniors A good portion of the other Ivy League schools, including Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, and Yale, have also dropped to negative percentages. In the explanation essays later written, a general consensus was that in order to stay competitive with others, this is what is necessary President of Princeton, Christopher Eisgruber, says it best, “We want the best of the best of the best of the best This is the best way to do that.”
However, a great number of questions have risen about the taking in of students, now that it appears they have stopped doing that. Thursday morning, another explanation essay, MLA format, was sent out from most of the colleges. They describe the bi-annual process for applications for students that want to go to these Universities Every two years, the respective schools will each hold their own auctions, for a limited number of seats at the metaphoric table. The select number of highest bidders will then be accepted into the college.
Adding on, the essays go to answer the questions about top-level students that might not have that kind of money There will be a 70-30 split, wherein 70% of the accepted students will be selected through the auction process. Using the money accumulated through that system, the remaining 30% of students will be given full-ride scholarships. That 30% is to be picked by sifting through the different minorities and at last choosing the poorest of the best minority students
Unsurprisingly, this new and holistic application process along with the improved acceptance rates has garnered much support from educators, parents, and students. It seems education really, truly, has finally become a top priority here in America
The Supreme Court traditionally has held 9 members to its bench. Many have advocated for the expansion of this number, but since 1869, due to a lack of holiday miracles, it has stayed the same. Late Wednesday night, that almost changed, with Congress deciding to be the elves to the Santa Claus that is President Biden.
Congress passed the Screw the Republican Party Act of 2022. In it, lays an entirely new Supreme Court seating From its previous 9 justices, the Supreme Court will now have 3. A specific part of the text explains it very well: "Due to unforeseen downsizing and budget cuts, we can no longer accommodate 9 justices to the Supreme Court. While everyone was considered for the openings, we have decided to keep justices Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson.” Surprisingly, this act passed through the majority Republican House of Representatives, in what some psychologists deem a self-deprecating move. President Biden signed the act late Wednesday night, reportedly touting the bill as a historically bi-partisan effort, possibly having not yet taken his sleeping medication
Democrats far and wide celebrated this monumental step forward in the de-politicization of the Supreme Court and upholding of political integrity. However, these joyous outbursts were short-lived. Thursday morning, the Supreme Court ruled that the act was unconstitutional, with a 6-3 vote. We are going to assume you can guess which justices are for and against it. This controversial ruling has received both praise and condemnation.
Lyrical genius and outspoken critic of certain religious communities, Kanye West, recorded his reaction to the court decision on Youtube: “Yo this is what I’m talking about, them politicians tryna to take off the only black justice and keep all the women on the court Do you know what religion the majority of women tend to affiliate with? That’s right, JEWISM ” We’d like to take a moment to correct some of the inaccuracies in his statement, but we have neither the time nor the energy to do so
For legal reasons, we will refrain from providing further quotes from celebrities, politicians, and foreign officials regarding the Supreme Court ruling and the Screw the Republican Party Act of 2022. Rather now, we will all have to wait and see if in 6 years the Screw the Democratic Party Act is passed. Let’s hope. But more importantly, let’s vote.
I dream of the ocean. A vast, dark, and open sea that drags me further and further into the struggle of keeping myself afloat. This ocean terrifies me. I don’t want to drown, so I swim and struggle against the waves that pull me under If a ship were to pass by no sound would be heard, by the time I am being searched for… I would have sunk to the bottom already.
Short breaths as my mind have a constant haze and dizziness. It’s like the world is spinning around me and my feet have nowhere to ground themselves I have been floating for so long it’s almost hopeless. The constant paddling, fighting the thirst, the hunger, and fighting to not give up. Why haven’t I given up? I have fought already. My whole life I’ve been fighting. No one has come to pull me out of the water… I’m gonna drown.
When I dream of this ocean sometimes I hear creatures A dolphin, seagulls, and orcas coming up for air, but the sound I love the most is when a pod of whales passes by. Their songs calm the waters. Sometimes one will even pass right underneath me, brushing against my feet that struggle to keep me afloat. Beautiful, blue, glowing creatures that pass by sounding their wonderful songs make my heart feel warm At night when the whales pass, it’s almost like they are lighting a path with their beautiful glowing forms. I struggle to follow them.
BY ZALA PEIMBERTThe water pulls me back as if I’m trapped in this loop of struggle, breathe, struggle…
Now there’s an unforgiving storm. Rushing winds, harsh painful waves, booming thunder, and dark mysterious clouds I can’t hold on The waves pull me further and further, I can’t swim up. I’m so tired of fighting. I reach the surface for a moment to cling to the last string of hope in my heart. Trying to recreate that warm feeling I felt hearing the whale’s symphony. A tidal wave the size of a battleship crashes on top of me as I take my last heaving breath That’s it I can’t fight anymore. I’m drowning. I feel the darkness close in and the cold finally overtakes me as my fingers and toes curl.
As my eyes close, I feel a bright beam of light shining against my lids from afar. I feel a warm embrace as the light grabs a hold of me and grows brighter and brighter Suddenly, this symphony of the whale’s song grows more and more powerful as if an orchestra was approaching their big, dramatic climax of sheet music. I opened my eyes to see the pod had returned to me. The beautiful blue monsters approach but they aren’t threatening, I feel safe. The light reminiscing off of their bodies turns soft as their song comes to an end. The whale swims by my floating body and glares at me.
“You are not lost. Wake up.”
i’ve found my forever home tucked away in between your two lungs and your solid rib cage is a construction site, filled with moving boxes and sticky notes ive decided to let myself be selfish and move into your heart, because it feels like you were born just to hold me the way your palms perfectly hold my delicate fingers, the dip in your collarbone that’s molded for the shape of my head, somehow i’ve found comfort in the fault lines of your skin, the familiarity of your eyes reminds me of the perfect partner i’ve always dreamed of i used to close my eyes to fall asleep to romantic fantasies, but now i wake up to them, in the perfectly crafted shape of you
What I was hoping to create with Voices Magazine, and what I hope for it in the future.
If you’re reading this, I want to first of all thank you very much for your interest in our magazine. It has been so amazing to see this project of ours finally come to life, and it definitely
would not have happened without our amazing club members and helpers So for that, I thank you all
I wanted to put a little message in here explaining why I had wanted to create this club in the first place, and why it was so important to me that it come to life Before starting Voices Magazine, I became infatuated by the
concept of perspective and how beneficial yet dangerous different ones can be. I read a book for Humanities, actually, called I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou Not only did that book create my love for Maya Angelou, but it also continued an empathetic feeling in me, deeper than it had been before It amazed me how much of an impact reading about someone else’s life can have on one, as it influences the ways we view prejudice, stereotypes, and judgment. I began to think- if there was a source of media at our school that allowed us to fully dive into someone’s life and personal struggles, we may understand each other a little better. And in my eyes, understanding is the key to acceptance and overcoming prejudice
I think that the stereotyping of others that media influences upon us when we are young is one of the main causes of all prejudice. As we grow up from elementary to adolescence, the media we consume shapes our minds and opinions of others If we change the ideas that these sources of media are
promoting, we have the power to create a better and kinder next generation Sometimes, it’s not even about what the media is promoting It’s about what it isn’t Representation matters and that is one of the main things that drove me to create this club. I hope that you enjoyed this issue of Voices Magazine!
