I am proud to announce the very first, inaugural VU Alumni Spotlight E-Book for our Sunway VU Programme! Heartiest congratulations to the respective lecturers and students (acknowledged at the end of the page), who have contributed to the E Book.
In early 2020, Ms Teh Ya Yee, was appointed as the VU Programme's Alumni Affairs and Internship Coordinator. She has come up with the VU Alumni Spotlight series, whereby bi weekly, 2 alumni were featured in our VU Facebook page.
Despite the slowdown during the MCO and Covid-19 pandemic, she successfully featured 38 alumni members during the academic years of 2020 2021. The Alumni Spotlight series had enabled the VU@Sunway Alumni community to push ahead and pursue their goal to build more fruitful connections at a time when there was a shutdown on social functions nationwide.
Since featuring the VU Alumni Spotlight Series, VU@Sunway Facebook page have gotten many "likes", positive comments and more important for us, an increase in reunions and reconnections and better networking amongst our past VU@Sunway students.
The idea of having an Alumni E Book was proposed at the end of 2021, and after several months, the VU Alumni Spotlight EBook is “born”!
The “E-ness” or digital version not only reinforces Sunway’s sustainability beliefs and practice, but through its electronic means, it has also made it easier to share to many more alumni across the globe. Thus we hope this will further increase alumni connectivity and expand our VU Alumni network.
Therefore, I encourage each of you to help spread, and share the VU Alumni Spotlight E Book, to all alumni in your cohorts or whom you know. And have them reconnect with our Sunway VU Facebook page.
Lastly, I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and sincere thank you to all our VU Alumni members, current VU students who provided the editorial layout and lecturers whose behind-the-scenes support and editorial efforts created the VU Alumni Spotlight E-Bo Best wishes and best

My first job after finishing my VU studies was as a Facebook Advertisement Consultant for the Korean market at Concentrix. The job was challenging as I dealt with clients who had more experience in online ads than I. However, I was excited to explore FB ad tools and I volunteered to manage more client cases. My hard work was appreciated when I was given the Best Agent Award 2019 and Best Agent Award for 2020 (first quarter).
In 2020, my manager recommended me to BP to work as an Order Manager. In BP, I was able to fully utilize my language skills (Chinese, Korean, English and Malay) to communicate with teams from different countries. Good communication and multi-language skills allowed me to communicate effectively with internal and external parties and ensure customer requested orders (oils) are delivered to the promised destination on time.
During my undergraduate studies at Sunway, I was an active member in the Sunway CPA Student Club (SCSC). I also volunteered to do internship in Pavilion Event Marketing Dep. I believe exposure beyond classroom is as important as academic achievement because it helps to build social skills, intellectual skills, moral skills and communication skills which are essential for career development.

My name is Tabassum and I am from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Being an International student, I realised that home isn’t necessary where you have a house or family but a place that welcomes you and gives you a sense of belonging. That is precisely what VU sunway offered me.
After completing my Bachelors at VU Sunway, I worked for 2 years before pursuing my Master’s degree at Coventry University, UK. I successfully completed my course with a 1st class and an overall best achievement receiving the Course Tutors Award in my Course. Thereafter, I worked as a Corporate Analyst at NIC Bank (T) Ltd (now known as NCBA) for 2 years.
I was overwhelmed when I got the opportunity to work at Imaan Finance (T) Ltd an Islamic Banking Platform. Islamic finance is one of the fastest growing sectors and as such I aspire to enhance my skills and experience in this field.

Sabrina graduated from VU in 2003, and worked for 2 years before continuing her studies to earn a Master’s degree from Queensland Australia. I studied at VU Sunway for 2 years and completed my final year at VU Melbourne. I knew going out of my comfort zone would push my boundaries. I was glad to have part time jobs whilst studying in Melbourne and being the President of VU Malaysia Alumni during my term. Such steps led me in discovering my passion and eventually start my own business with my partner. It is a digital agency that specializes in digital marketing for SMEs, named More Than Two.
Not long after, the side passion that my partner and I both pursued grew into a brand called Inked Cup. It was based on coffee training as we were passionate about Melbourne’s Coffee culture. About half a year ago, we expanded the brand into a physical café, located in Doncaster East, Melbourne.
I am glad that I can apply the knowledge and experience learned both inside and outside of my university life. I learned to be innovative and for the extra mile without hesitation. I believe we might be pursuing a different path from our studies, but it doesn’t mean that the knowledge and experience can’t be utilized. It is and it can be used in our future path sooner or later.

As an international student, I wanted to accumulate a mixed bag of experiences from my student life in Malaysia as I viewed this step as a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is this mindset that drove me to go beyond my studies and join SCSC and VUBC clubs. I participated in various activities like organising and emceeing at the VU Night, managing the SCSC’s blog, and raising funds by setting up booths at the campus cafeteria.
I enjoyed having daily busy schedules: attending lectures and tutorials, organising club meetings and events, studying in the freezing cold library or in the foyer until late at night, and even preparing for exams with my peers. Another highlight of my university days is the friendships that I made with people from all over the world, including my best friends Nuha and Tanya.
While working with HSBC Mauritius, I attended a networking dinner event that I spoke up and mentioned that I would be interested to join one of the regional Financial Crime Compliance sub-teams based in Hong Kong. It was barely a five minutes conversation. I was asked for coffee on the next day and few months later, I boarded a plane to Hong Kong with my husband. This has been no doubt an amazing twist in my career. The moral of the story that I wish to share with graduates and young professionals is to NEVER BE AFRAID TO SPEAK UP. IF YOU DON’T ASK, YOU ARE DEFINITELY MISSING ON OPPORTUNITIES that could lead you to an entirely different, exciting and empowering professional life!

I have been in the financial services sector for the last 20 years, in some of the best professional firms, large local banks, regional banks and a global bank. Looking for more excitement and further build my experience and knowledge, I transitioned into Investment Banking, an area where I found my passion and am continuing to enjoy my journey to today. VU@Sunway certainly honed
me and got me ready with a solid knowledge base, positive attitude and character, going into the “real world” and to where I am today.
