Here it is, September the holy month of fashion! Whatever happens this month, we study carefully as it draws and determines the whole vibe of next year. While we are celebrating the arrival of fall, promising us a much merciful cooler days, we are experimenting new exciting things most importantly being there in #NYFW for the first time and looking forward to fresh new turns. As you can see we are back in English after giving The *It a test drive in Arabic language. Unfortunately we didn’t feel that it represented The *It as much as we wanted. Watch out for our mentor and The *It’s God mother Mme. It, She will be peeking on your screens from time to time and she’s a feisty one we tell you! So make sure you don’t be stepping on her toes. Remember to keep in touch with us through our social networks accounts and enjoy the issue.

One of our favorite colors of the season is the Powdery Pink that always associated with pastel and bonbons. Its soft, feminine and flatters every skin tone. Channel your inner romantic and get inspired by these items selected by us.

We’re used to seeing leather skirts in mini or pencil cut. This season many designers and brands represented a new generation of leather skirts, in a new flowy girly way.

Update your wardrobe with this edgy powerful piece that you can dress up and down as you wear it day to night. If you miss your 90’s denim overalls, its time now you upgrade them to fall’s favorite mini statement trend.

One of the major trends for the Fall/Winter season is the military chic. We picked up these pieces for you with an elegant touch to avoid being borderline costumy!

Haim’s sister, the blogger Leandra Medina, modeling pieces from the Khai Khai collection.

With exposure to jewelry at a young age, it didn’t take long for Haim Medine to join the family jewelry business. He launched Khai Khai ‐ a childhood nickname ‐‐ and in doing so single handedly dragged the traditional and conservative jewelry industry into a 21st century world of wit, whimsy and character. With the art of man‐repelling in his gene pool, Haim Medine’s collection shares a similarly strong point of view. Khai Khai jewelry defies conventional jewelry design by transforming commonplace symbols such as the simple exclamation mark into highly coveted jewels. The edgy collection has a sense of humor not for the fainthearted. “I always knew I wanted to do something creative because of the way I was brought up,” Medine says. Born to prominent jeweler Mois Medine (founder of Mark Henry Alexandrite Jewelry

Collection — a company specializing in the ultra–rare and expensive Alexandrite stone) and his fashionable wife Laura, Haim grew up immersed in the family medium. Medine’s line Khai Khai, his younger pet name, launched in February. Modest in size and simple in construction, the biggest–sellers are statement–makers nonetheless. He lets the jewelry elaborate: “!” “#” “@” “?” They speak to a generation as prone to using hash tags as periods. “The youthful feeling of my jewelry is supposed to make the wearer feel young as well,” he explains. Despite his lifelong education in the trade, Medine likens his design process to a first–grader scribbling on a piece of paper. Irreverent yet sentimental, it’s easy to see why he named the line after a childhood nickname. His designs bespeak the same playful juvenilia, wisely informed by tradition.

The Rodebjer Fall Winter | 2013 collection grows out of a childhood in the harsh and wondrous nature of the Swedish island of Gotland. We have viewed awe-inspiring nature from root perspective, got ensnared in untamed, organic structures, found beauty in the handmade and imperfect and been enchanted by wonderful fairytale worlds.

Suits, sets and dresses – easily combined outfits - are important. The silhouette is loose and layered, or body-hugging, but with hard edges and fine details sprinkled throughout the collection. In places silk organza bursts out in sculptural flounces, creating a fairytale look. Black and grey serve as a ground for the collection’s palette, followed by earthy tones such as Mud, Hazelnut and Raw Umber and accented by fairytale hues, Phthalo Blue, Sheer Pink and White.

Materials are rich and full of chaotic, organic structures and textures. Hand knitted, super- fluffy and chunky knits, as well as garments in sheepskin from a small farm close to Carin Rodebjer’s childhood home on Gotland, pay homage to the handmade, small-scale and human. Combining countryside and city, childhood and womanhood, fiction and fact the result is earthy glamour for the modern woman.

Stories We Tell (2012) This is defiantly not your everyday documentary. This is a very warm hearted collaboration between family members. Stories we tell is a documentary by Sarah Polley on the relationship between her parents and her later discovery of her real biological father. You might think that this is just the story behind this beautiful work, but the truth is it looks deeper into the human nature in collecting memories and putting them in words in stories. Each member of Sarah’s family had his share in telling what he/ she thought about their late mother Diane. Sarah used Super-8 footage shot to make the movie as close as it can be to homemade videos. As a result the viewer will get an unforgettable journey into the small world of Diane and Michael Polley and their friends. You well learn that our worlds may collide and look exactly the same sometimes, it is human nature its memory and storytelling between siblings and families.

Claire of the Sea Light By: Edwidge Danticat

&Sons By: David Gilbert

From the writer of the famous “Breath, Eyes, Memory” comes this lyrical novel about a Haitian village. Critics say if you haven’t read anything for Danticat before you should immediately start here. The publisher describes the book plot here: “Claire Limyè Lanmè—Claire of the Sea Light— is an enchanting child born into love and tragedy in Ville Rose, Haiti. Claire’s mother died in childbirth, and on each of her birthdays Claire is taken by her father, Nozias, to visit her mother’s grave. Nozias wonders if he should give away his young daughter to a local shopkeeper, who lost a child of her own, so that Claire can have a better life. But on the night of Claire’s seventh birthday, when at last he makes the wrenching decision to do so, she disappears. As Nozias and others look for her, painful secrets, haunting memories, and startling truths are unearthed among the community of men and women whose individual stories connect to Claire, to her parents, and to the town itself. “

This new novel by the great David Gilbert is the most talked about lately. Among the reasons this book got the public attention, is the difficulty to find it on the book selling websites. The “&” at the beginning of the title was omitted and misread. You will eventually find it by searching the author’s name or simply adding “And”. According to his publisher David Gilbert establishes himself as one of our most original, entertaining, and insightful authors. & Sons is that rarest of treasures: a startlingly imaginative novel about families and how they define us, and the choices we make when faced with our own mortality.

Mario Buatta An American Un-decorator If you have been collecting clippings for a near future re-decorating, make sure you include the name “Mario Buatta” in your search engine. Who is he? Well just one of the greatest American interior decorators. His legacy goes back for decades and he has been considered the go-to designer for the rich and famous. The list includes Mariah Carey, Henry Ford II, Malcolm Forbes, Barbara Walters. He also worked on the interior of the Blair House –The guest house of the US president- and the list goes on. He studied architecture at Cooper Union NY and later attended Parsons school of design in Europe. Following his studies he completed his apprenticeship in famous companies and department stores until he founded his own company in 1963. Background and influence.. Buatta is called “The Prince of Chintz” and chintz for those who don’t know it are fabrics printed with designs featuring flowers and other patterns in different colors, typically on a light plain background. Since the 19th century the term has also been used for the style of floral decoration. The famous decorator also invented his own term “The Undecorated Look” and although it sounds chaotic and arbitrary it meant mixing contemporary with antique to give the most comfortable and balanced look. Mario started obsessing about English antiques and style from an early age. He remembers his aunt house with its different chintz and Chippendale’s amazing pieces. The rest of his family weren’t interested, his father refused to let him collect antiques in the house due to the germs and dirt that might be attached to it. So did he give up? No, Mario

started collecting his treasures in the garage. His first precious find was a box from the 18th century and it cost him about 12$. Buatta owes his fascination with fabrics and layers and mixtures to his Paris years. During that time his professors encouraged him to visit museums and art galleries to look at paintings and understand it. If he didn’t understand art he would never be a good interior designer. Patterns and surfaces on those paintings changed the way he thought and gave him a thread to follow. He also seeks inspiration in old Hollywood movies. He once said ‘’The MGM movie sets were magical, to see them now makes me realize how they’ve shaped my ideas.’’ For more inspiration, Mario kept a scrapbook of his travels and places that he visited. He arranged those books carefully according to different styles and filled them with photos and sketches.

Decorate it

The Buattapedia.. According to an interview published recently in the NY Times, Buatta wanted to name his long waited upcoming book “it’s about time”. Indeed, everyone was waiting to hold a guide on his style. An inspirational monograph named “Mario Buatta: Fifty Years of American Interior Decoration” and written by the artist himself along with Emily Evans Eerdmans will be out in hardcover next October. The long waited publication is filled with high quality pictures with detailed information on Buatta’s style and creations. The pictures shown were collected from already published pieces in magazines and other media sources as well as many unpublished photographs from the designer’s own archive. If you are a fan of Buatta’s work and looking for his rules and ideas in detail this book is for you. If you are an art lover and an appreciator of antiques and biography writings you will like it as well.

Elements of Buatta style in his own words: 1.“A room shouldn’t look as if the decorator just left, that everything is perfect.” 2.“If you can’t hide it, decorate it” 3.“I usually start with the biggest pattern first and then add all the other elements based on the colors in the largest pattern chosen” 4.“It’s very important that a room looks as if it has been created overtime.” 5.“It isn’t about matching; everything should not look like it all arrived yesterday.” 6.“You can change the entire look of a room from a simple can of paint.” 7.“There should be minor imperfections in each room.”

‘All Paths Lead Home’ is the debut furniture collection from designer and photographer Pam Weinstock. An arresting series of 3 very different upholstered chairs will be unveiled at London’s leading decorative design show – Decorex, this September. ‘Hibernate’, ‘Joie de Vivre’ and ‘Reawaken’, are bold statement pieces; the collection reveals Pam’s skill in combining 2 and 3 dimensional worlds through the artistic transposition of images from her photographic series, onto each piece; The results are truly unique and very beautiful. At the heart of the narrative underpinning Pam Weinstock’s photographic work, are natural surroundings and backdrops that signify definitive moments in her life. Childhood dreams. Moments of reflection during times of change. Solitude. A marriage proposal... The trees in the series used for ‘All Paths Lead Home’, mirror these cycles of life, each captured in different seasons and at different stages of growth.

‘Reawaken’ is a classic style, deep seated sofa. The contrasting colours of almost pink copper Maple buds and bare branches, against the light blue sky produce a dramatic effect with the branches creeping up from the ground onto the seat and over the back of this stunning piece.

The Ballets Russes—the most innovative dance company of the 20th century— propelled the performing arts to new heights through groundbreaking collaborations between artists, composers, choreographers, dancers, and fashion designers. Founded by Russian impresario Serge Diaghilev (1872–1929) in Paris in 1909, the company combined Russian and Western traditions with a healthy dose of modernism, thrilling and shocking audiences with its powerful fusion of choreography, music, and design. Showcasing more than 130 original costumes, set designs, paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings, photographs, and posters, Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes also incorporates film clips in a theatrical multimedia installation. Adapted from the exhibition conceived by and first shown at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in 2010, the presentation in Washington draws upon that rich survey, including some 80 works from the V&A’s renowned collection of dance artifacts, and adds about 50 objects, generously offered by more than 20 lenders, private and public. Diaghilev’s success depended primarily on his ability to identify and bring together the most creative artists of his day. Recognizing the vitality of contemporary art, he called upon Léon Bakst, Natalia Goncharova, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Giorgio de Chirico, among others, to create dynamic set designs and exquisitely decorated costumes that shared a unified aesthetic. They in turn brought the most important artistic developments of the early 20th century—including futurism, cubism, and surrealism—to the ballet stage. Diaghilev also commissioned ballet scores from innovative composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Prokofiev, and Erik Satie, and featured dancers noted for their technical brio, making the company a breeding ground for musical and choreographic innovation: Mikhail Fokine, Vaslav Nijinsky, Léonide Massine, Bronislava Nijinska, and George Balanchine all dramatically expanded the vocabulary of movement. The troupe’s productions—notably the infamous Rite of Spring, now celebrating its 100th anniversary—instigated a revolution in dance. This exhibition seeks to highlight these and other connections fostered by Diaghilev.

1867, SAINT PETERSBURG. Pavel Kousmichoff founds the P.M Kousmichoff tea company. It was quickly a great success and Kusmi tea rapidly became the Tsars’ tea of choice.
