Chris Carlisle (Caractacus Potts) has appeared Off-Broadway “With Glee”, Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles “The Post Office”, VST “Little Shop of Horrors” Television credits include Into The Dark (Hulu/Blumhouse), Mr. Mercedes (Paramount), Eleventh Hour (CBS), National commercials for Wii, Twix, Wheel of Fortune and Chevrolet and most recently he could be found performing from Alaska to New Zealand as a principal vocalist aboard Princess Cruises. He is thrilled to be back on stage in Birmingham and so thankful for the warm reception from this incredible community. Zoe Wirt (Truly Scrumptious), in her VST debut, has performed, music directed, and choreographed around Birmingham for the last 6 years. Some favorite moments on stage include My Fair Lady (RMT), Bunnicula, The Hundred Dresses, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins (BCT), Steve Martin’s The Underpants (Homewood Theatre), and TOUCH (workshop singer/cover for world premiere with Opera Birmingham). Lacey Sage Thomas (Jemima Potts) is honored to be part of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Virginia Samford Theater. Some of her previous shows include Mary Poppins Jr. (Jane Banks), A Fairytale Christmas Carol (Gretel), Elf the Musical (Santa’s elves), and The Price and the Pauper (Bet). She is a rising 6th grader. She would love to thank her musical theater and dance teachers at Tapestry Story Arts for helping her find her love of Theater and Dance and reminding her why she was created to create. Her love of Ballet has led her to join Briarwood Ballet this summer. She also enjoys working in her garden and playing with her cats. Alexander Wesley (Jeremy Potts) is thrilled to be spending the summer at VST in his second mainstage performance. The 11-year-old from Morris, fell in love the moment he stepped on the stage. He began VST STARS program in 2022. In his short tenure, he has been in 6 productions at VST. Among his favorites are a Lost Boy in Peter Pan, Zero in School House Rock the Musical, and ensemble performances. Alexander has also performed as a soloist in his school’s performing ensemble and participated in The Jefferson County Elementary Music Festival for outstanding choral students. In his free time, Alexander plays tennis, enjoys running, playing a variety of musical instruments, and traveling. Alexander would like to thank his family for helping him along this journey.
Chuck Duck (Grandpa Potts) is thrilled to be back at VST and so excited to be a part of this classic show. Other shows at VST include Tartuffe, Taming of the Shrew, and The Producers. Chuck is also a cat daddy and would like to thank Mr. Tumnus, Starkitty and Miss Vanjie for letting him be away so much. lol. Hope you enjoy the show!
W. Scott Stewart (Baron) Scottie last appeared at VST in SPAMALOT (King Arthur) but has been on stage here singing the low notes and playing upright bass with The Dill Pickers! He lives on a second century family farm in Triune, TN with dog RC (#RIPRufus). Each Christmas season, Scottie travels with the National Tour of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Musical! playing the dog, Old Max. His credits also include a national tour of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Sam the Snowman) and Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventure in Pigeon Forge. Past roles in Birmingham include: Bright Star (Daddy Cane); Til Beth Do Us Part (Gibby); Smoke on the Mountain (Rev. Courtney Cook (Baroness/Miss Phillips) is thrilled to return to the VST stage after getting her start here back in the Town & Gown Theatre days. A native of Birmingham, she just returned after a couple of decades living in NYC and Los Angeles. She was recently in “‘Til Beth Do Us Part” at Homewood Theatre. Favorite regional theatre: “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris,” “Bad Dates,” “The Secret Garden,” “Tough Guys Don’t Shoot Blanks,” “Vice Girl Confidential.” TV: “Parks & Recreation,” “American Crime Story: The People v. David Strickland (Boris) has not been onstage in five years, so please bear with him. (2019: Mr. Wormwood in Red Mountain Theatre’s Matilda and Alvin in Terrific New Theatre’s Story of My Life.) Once upon a time, he acted in over a dozen VST productions, most under the direction of his friend and mentor, the late Jack Mann. David mostly directs now. He considers TNT his artistic home (Fun Home, The Big Meal, “The Nora Plays”), and he has also directed at Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Theatre Downtown, and RMT. He has assistant directed at theatres around the country, including the Alliance, Goodspeed Musicals, Rep. Theatre of St. Louis, and Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company. Jeff DeGarmo (Goran) is a systems analyst at UAB Medicine during the day and does his best to use his evenings and weekends to sing and act. He has too many degrees, but his favorite one is his music degree from Montevallo, where he studied voice with Bennie Middaugh. He is a staff singer at Trinity UMC, and most recently performed in On Golden Pond at Homewood Theatre, 12 Angry Jurors at Encore Theatre and Gallery, Red Mountain Theatre’s Kinky Boots, and in VST’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company. All my love to West and Jake! Jake prefers to receive love in the form of Milk Bones and French fries.
Kyle is a graduate of The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and was a member of their 100th year Academy Company. He has been performing on the VST stage for over 40 years! Past roles include Captian Hook in our production of Peter Pan, J.D. in Escape to Margaritaville, The Captian in Sound of Music, Sam Phillips in Million Dollar Quartet, and Harold Hill in The Music Man. You may also recognize him from a Red Mountian Theatre production as Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady or as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. Kyle is a full time Voice Actor and was the voice of the opening ceremonies for the 2022 World Games. His clients include: Honda, Zaxby’s, Garmin, Norwegian Cruise Line, and BadBoy Mowers. Andrew Duxbury (Coggins) is celebrating, with this production, his 21st appearance on the VST mainstage. Other recent VST roles include Cinderella’s Father in Into the Woods, Mr. Tinsworthy in 9 to 5, and Herr Schultz in Cabaret. On other stages he has appeared as Red in Seven Santas and Comet in The Reindeer Monologues (Birmingham Festival Theater), Bobby Dwayne in The Hallelujah Girls, Will Dearth in Dear Brutus and Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol (Belltower Players), The Bailiff in Twelve Angry Jurors (Encore Theater), Mr. Pendleton in Choir Boy (Birmingham Black Repertory Theater), and the Ansager in the long running Politically Incorrect Cabaret. He is also the author of the award winning The Accidental Plague Diaries. Off stage, he is a professor of clinical geriatrics at UAB.
Patrick May (Toymaker) couldn’t be more excited to be back on stage at the VST where he started with MCAT(magic city actors theatre).Since then Patrick has appeared in numerous main stage shows where he last played (Ken) in “Ain’t misbehavin” and also the ensemble of “Jesus Christ Superstars” all directed by the greats “Carl Dean” and Michael King. He would like to take the opportunity to thank all his friends and family for all the support and love they always show and most importantly his parents for always believing in him even when he didn’t believe in himself.
Virginia Barr (Ensemble) is excited to perform again at the VST! Some of her favorite roles include Rapunzel in Into the Woods, Jenny in Company, Chanteuse in Cabaret, and Dyanne in Million Dollar Quartet (VST); Ellie in Girls’ Weekend (Homewood Theatre); singer/dancer in A Not So Silent Night (CAT); Constance in The Three Musketeers (BCT); Prudie Cupp in Pump Boys and Dinettes (TNT); Mrs. Scratchitt in A Bluegrass Christmas Carol (Norton Dill Productions); Babe in Crimes of the Heart (BFT); Ensemble in Spamalot and A Christmas Story, the Musical (VST); Catherine in Pomme d’Api (FAVA Opera in France); and Velma in West Side Story (CLOC). Virginia teaches Music at Clanton Elementary School. She wants to thank Henry Scott for this opportunity and her friends and family for their love and support.
Ryder Dean (Ensemble) is a Sophomore at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and is ecstatic to be making his mainstage Virginia Samford debut! He has appeared once on the main stage at VST as Sandy in The Man Who Came to Dinner. Some of his other roles include Edward Bloom in Big Fish the Musical with BCT, Ed in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Javert in Les Miserables, and Doc O’Conner and others in The Laramie Project, all of which were at JCATD. He wants to thank his VST family for the endless support! Also a special thanks to his father Carl, and his sister Caroline!
Brennen Foy (Ensemble) is ecstatic to be back on the VST stage in this iconic show! Past VST credits include: Friedrich Von trapp in The Sound of Music and Ensemble in Peter Pan. He is an recent alumni of both the Performing Ensembles and The Conservatory at Red Mountain Theatre. Brennen is so excited to be attending The University of Alabama at Birmingham this fall to pursue his BFA in Musical Theatre. @brennen.foy
Shelby Grace Justice (Ensemble/Dance Captain) is thrilled to be returning to the Virginia Samford Theatre in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! She was previously seen at the VST in Peter Pan The Musical as Liza/ Tiger Lily. Some of her other favorite credits include Mr. Burns: A PostElectric Play (Colleen, Itchy), A Christmas Carol (Grace Smythe, dance captain), and Arkansas Bear (Mime). In addition to performing, Shelby Grace is a first-year graduate student at Samford University where she is studying to become a speech-language pathologist. She would like to thank the entire cast for

Benjamin Kitchens (Ensemble) is delighted to return to the stage after 4 years away from his home here in the Magic City! He previously appeared here at VST in A Bluegrass Christmas Carol (2017) and Spring Awakening (2019). You may also recognize him from The Book of Merman (2018) and Pump Boys & Dinettes (2018) at Terrific New Theatre, The Three Little Kittens (2019) at Birmingham Children’s Theatre, A Not So Silent Night (2018) at Central Alabama Theatre, or Godspell (2018) and Music Man (2017) at South City Theatre. By day, Benjamin works as a talent acquisition manager; by night, he enjoys a cappella music, board games, and points/ miles travel-hacking. He holds a degree in theatre from Vanderbilt University.
Alexa-Grace Lindley (Ensemble/Dance Captain) is a rising sophomore BFA Theatre major at The University of Alabama with a concentration in Musical Theatre. She is thrilled to be returning for her seventh show with VST! Her favorite past credits include: Oklahoma (Laurey) and Music Man Jr (Eulalie). Olivia Scott (Ensemble) is very excited to make her VST debut in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Olivia is going to be a junior at UAB this upcoming fall earning her BFA in musical theatre. Her recent credits include “Sister Act” (Red Mountain Theatre), and “Everybody”(University of Alabama at Birmingham).
Sawyer Smith (Ensemble) is a Senior in high-school. He loves to spend his time singing and learning the piano, and is very excited to be a part of this production. His favorite shows to have appeared in are “Beauty and the Beast” (Beast), “The Addams Family Jr.” (Lurch), and “Peter Pan” (Slightly). Mary Taylor Spell (Ensemble) is thrilled to be making her Virginia Samford Theatre debut in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! She is from Madison, MS and a rising junior at Samford University, where she is pursuing her BFA in Musical Theatre. Mary Taylor was most recently seen in Samford University’s Lucky Stiff as the French Emcee and Annabel Glick understudy. Some of her other recent credits include Claire (Ordinary Days), Ensemble/Hope Cladwell u/s (Urinetown), and Medda Larkin (Newsies). Mary Taylor is so grateful for the constant support from her family and friends in doing what she loves! She is incredibly thankful to be a part of this wonderful experience and hopes you truly enjoy the show!
Meredith Vaughn (Ensemble) (she/her) is so thrilled to be back at VST this summer after spending her time at Neverland last year in “Peter Pan!” A BFA graduate from the University of Montevallo, her recent credits include: “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (Florika) and “Seussical (TYA)” (Bird Girl) with the Actor’s Charitable Theater, “Some Enchanted Evening” (“A Cockeyed Optimist”), “Mamma Mia!” (Lisa), “Grease” (Frenchy), and “Ragtime” (Little Girl) with Theatre Tuscaloosa. Jackson White (Ensemble) is a soon-to-be senior at The University of Alabama studying both Theatre and Creative Media. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang marks Jackson’s return to the VST stage! He has grown up in the Birmingham community theatre realm, and is excited for everyone to see this fun and exciting show! Favorite credits include Boy (Adam/Samantha), Julius Caesar (Popilius/Lucilius/Pompey),
and The Insanity of Mary Girard (Fury/Mr. Philips). He would like to thank God, the wonderful creative team, and this awesome cast for making this such a great show to be a part of!
Xzavier Whittington (Ensemble) is a 19 year old college student, and is very excited to be doing this show. He enjoys musical and non musical theater. His hobbies include playing piano, playing basketball, and working out, his favorite thing to do however is sing. His main mission in life is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and to leave the world a better place than it was when he arrived. He loves making others happy and making them smile. He hopes this show will be one to remember.
Mae Alexander (STARS) Ensemble)is an 8 year old second grader at Crestline Elementary. Mae started acting at VST when she was 7 and she has thoroughly enjoyed her experiences in Honk, Jr., Addams Family: Young @ Part, and Schoolhouse Rock Live! Mae is very excited to be a part of this production of Chitty! Outside of theater, Mae enjoys playing basketball & softball, baking, reading, and playing with her friends. Mae feels grateful to Daniel for giving her this exciting opportunity. Mae would like to thank her voice coach, Amy Murphy, for always believing in her. Mae is looking forward to a future full of more fun times with musical theater!
Mary Henning Dale (STARS Ensemble) completed the 8th grade with ASFA. She is excited to perform her third Summer with VST. Past performances include Marta, Sound of Music and Jane, Peter Pan as well as several VST STARS shows. She enjoys ballet and performed as Marie, AL Ballet’s Nutcracker the last 2 seasons. In her spare time, she cares for her cat “Eliza Hamilton.”
Ma’Kayla Dial (STARS Ensemble) is delighted to grace the Virginia Samford stage once again, this time as a seasoned performer. She is currently a sophomore at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she is diligently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts alongside a Bachelor of Science. Her recent theatrical endeavors include portraying “Audrey” in Disney’s “Descendants” and participating in the ensemble of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Trial by Jury” within the university’s music department. Bradley Harris (STARS Ensemble) is fourteen years old and is thrilled to be in her first production at VST! Although she has enjoyed acting and singing for several years, she has been especially thrilled to participate in one of her favorite musicals, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Miles Mann (STARS Ensemble) is pleased to be back on the stage at Virginia Samford Theater where he has previously appeared in Schoolhouse Rock, the Addams Family, and Disney’s the Descendants. Miles first took to the stage at eight years old in Seussical Jr at Red Mountain Theater. He has also appeared in Peter Pan Jr at Red Mountain and in his school’s performances of Alice Through the Looking Glass and Midsummer Night Dream. Miles won 3rd place in group acting in the 2023 Theater Competition.
Doc Porter (STARS Ensemble) is thrilled to be making his Virginia Samford Theatre mainstage season debut in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! An active member of the VST STARS program, Doc also enjoys show choir, track, and wrestling. Past performances include Our Town (Wally Webb), Big Fish (Young William Bloom), Honk, Jr. (Ugly), The Music Man, Jr. (Tommy Djilas), Disney’s Descendants (Doug), The Addams
Family, and most recently, On Golden Pond (Billy Ray, Jr.) at Homewood Theatre. Doc is a rising freshman at Homewood High School.
Alyson Ragland (STARS Ensemble) is so thrilled to be a part of a main stage production at VST. Having been a part of VST Stars’ production of Descendants (Maleficent) and Sister Act Jr. (Elle/Nun Ensemble), along with RMT’s production of Mean Girls Jr (Regina George) and Artplay’s production of Addams Family young at part (Morticia Addams) and Legally Blonde Jr. (Store Manager/Delta Nu Ensemble), she is so excited to be performing her first non-Junior production with her VST family!
Spencer Schillaci (STARS Ensemble) is a Junior at Hoover High School and is thrilled to return to the Mainstage. He has performed with the VST STARS program since the age of eight. His favorite roles include Crocodile and Nana in Peter Pan, Marcellus in Music Man Jr, King Jullian in Madagascar Jr, and Drake in Honk! Jr. Spencer would like to thank Henry and Jenna for this opportunity and his family for their support and encouragement. Enjoy the show!
Rachel Smith (STARS Ensemble) is thrilled to be making her VST debut in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Her favorite of seven roles in all with AAC include JoJo in Seussical, Young Elsa in Frozen, Ugly in Honk!, and most recently, Miss Hannigan in Annie. She is an active member of her school’s show choir and tennis team, and for fun, she loves learning the French language. Bon spectacle!
Madeline Whitt (STARS Ensemble) is a 6th grade student at Hewitt Trussville Middle School. She enjoys being in the choir, reading, doing art and playing volleyball and softball. She has been in several plays including playing Marta in “The Sound of Music”, Queen of the High C’s in “Pirates the Musical”, “Frozen”, “A Fairytale Christmas Carole”, “Madagascar” and “New York, NewYork”. She loves being on stage!
Eva Zebot (STARS Ensemble) is thrilled to be a part of the STARS Ensemble for this amazing production! She is 11 years old and a student at Cherokee Bend Elem. She is also a Level 4 competitive dancer at Linda Dobbins Dance. Her previous VST experience was as one of the “River City Kids” in Music Man, Jr., and she will return as an Ensemble performer in the Summer 2024 performance of Legally Blonde, Jr. Eva would like to thank her family (Mom, Dad, siblings Joseph & Caroline & fur-brothers Gus & Louie) for all their love & support!
Henry Scott (Director/Choreographer) is thrilled to direct and choreograph one of his childhood favorites, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, at the historic Virginia Samford Theatre! His past VST productions include Peter Pan, Man of La Mancha, Legally Blonde, Love Linda, The Sound of Music, and The Fantasticks. He extends heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary cast and creative team for their exceptional talents and beautiful hearts. Caleb Stroman (Lighting Designer) is an assistant professor and lighting designer at the University of Montevallo. He has designed over 100 productions, including at Red Mountain Theatre, Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, and Millbrook Playhouse to name a few.
