VONNE: creating a collective voice
Community Foundation: giving you the power to do good The Community Foundation is an independent charity dedicated to making a difference to people’s lives in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, and across North East England. We are the biggest organisation of our kind in the UK.
Our work is focused on: Giving and philanthropy – helping people and organisations make a difference by starting a fund with us, leaving a legacy or giving with like-minded others. Funding and support – awarding grants to effective voluntary groups and people in need of help by matching their interests to those of our funds. Knowledge and leadership – benefiting communities by shining a light on vital issues and working with others to make change happen.
VONNE is the support body for the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in the North East. We represent and support over 950 member charities, voluntary organisations, community groups, networks and social enterprises with further reach through our many networks. We do this by: Representing the sector within regional and national partnerships and networks. Providing a range of relevant information and opportunities to the sector. Brokering effective engagement and collaboration within the sector and between the sector and stakeholders. Supporting research and incubating and supporting new projects and initiatives. We also run VONNE Jobs, a sector specialist recruitment site which advertises jobs and trustee vacancies.
We rely on our members to shape the work of VONNE and welcome you to join. Core membership is free and available to a range of not-for-profit organisations within the region. Membership+ is an enhanced membership scheme which offers a range of benefits including: Funding information. Exclusive events. Free and discounted job adverts. Show your support to VONNE and allow us to continue our work supporting the sector.

Third Sector Trends The Third Sector Trends study was conceived and originally commissioned by Northern Rock Foundation with research conducted by the Universities of Southampton, Teesside and Durham. The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland was a co-funder of the research and is now responsible for its legacy. The Community Foundation collaborates with partners including St Chad’s College at the University of Durham, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and IPPR North to expand and continue the research. The most recent North East England report was published by the Community Foundation in 2017 with further support through partnerships with the Esmée Fairbairn and Garfield Weston Foundations.
