Shannon’s Classic Walk 2008 Labour weekend March 2008 saw a number of classic air cooled VW’s from the Volkswagen Club Victoria join the growing contingent of Victorian Car clubs at the Shannon’s Walk, support for the Philip Island Classic Car Racing. The Shannon’s Walk supports the classic racing by providing a colourful back drop to these activities and the VWCV was on display bigger and better for the second year. The 2007 display was relatively small with 4 VW’s on display and 2008 saw a
much larger and better positioned club site, sitting track side, right in the middle of things. We had an excellent selection of classic air cooled VW’s on rotation display over the 2 main days (Saturday and Sunday), including Beetles from 1953 thru to 1978, 2 Karmann Beetles, a 23 Window Kombi, 2 13 Window Kombi’s and 2 Type 3 Ghia’s. Our colourful VW event banners and our new club “VW Dome” were all put to good use, visible from the open grandstands on the opposite side of
Greetings one and all.
President’s Report Michael Cronin, VWCV President
Some good news, we have finally reached agreement with the RACV Club for a meeting room (at no cost), so a big thankyou to John Stevens for his time and effort in achieving this. Therefore the next meeting at the RACV Club will be May. In April we are going to Revolution Race Gear (bring your wallets) with a BBQ starting at 6.30pm and meeting starting at 7.30pm, please bring a chair. Stories from those who attended the Sydney Bug-In over Easter, seems like a good time was had by all. If you have a couple of hours ask Andrew, I am sure he will be more than happy to give you an update on the event.
the race track. The general feedback from all visitors to our club site over the weekend was positive and this positive feedback was confirmed with the VW Club site winning the Shannon’s best Presented Car Club trophy for the 2008 Shannon’s Walk. Great result for our second year in. Big thank you to the following club members, Vince Zito, Bernie Morrison, Bob Jamieson, Colin Hyett, Joe & Lee Moran, Andrew Menggel, Andrew Ermel, Norm Morrison, Cheryl Ermel,
our team has already done looks like it will be more than good in fact it should be fantastic, start planning to attend now. A special thanks to Cheryl for her efforts in getting the City of Bendigo on side to support the event. I was quite a surprise to see the number of VWs that turned up at the Jamboree and the interest from the general public. It is suppressing how many people out there used to own a VW or their parents had one when they were growing up. It was good to see Peter and Patricia CurranIts form Tassie drop in on their way home, hope to see them again soon. If you get a chance have a look at the beautiful cabinetry that Peter has done in his camper.
Stuart Ermel, Dean Holden, John Farlow and John and Jan Stevens for providing their VW’s for display over the weekend. Extra special thanks go to John and Lorraine Farlow, for their massive effort to ensure the success of the weekend. VWCV will be back on display in 2009, so if want your classic air-cooled VW to be part of the action next year, stay tuned for details. Dean Holden VWCV Vice President
It’s also good to see some interest in the club from later Volkswagen owners. If you know anyone please encourage them to come along to the club events and join in the Volkswagen fun. The Club stand with the banners and new dome shelter is starting to look good thanks to all those that helped. By now Jan should have got over receiving an encouragement award for her splitty. See you at the general meeting or the Mystery Cruise.
VWCV will be hosting the 2009 Bug-In and the event is looking good, the work
