The process and transaction of ownership of something is very easy to understand.

However, over the years there have been new ways of acquiring and using the product without having to pay full price for them. Items such as heavy machinery and equipment usually cost in the hundreds of thousands, or even millions, which may not be the budget for a lot of the people in need. Hence, the concept of leasing came into the view in which one party “rents” the product from another party for a certain amount of time for a specific amount of money. This amount of money is significantly less in price than the full price.There are some terms and conditions set for these transactions:

Terminologies

When looking at lease contracts there will be some jargon that may be unusual to you in sound and written form. You will encounter words like lessor, lessee, market value, etc. There a lot of terms that will be present in the contract which you might need to look up before you visit the lessor. You will have to make sure that the lessor does not include words in the contract that are not actual lease terminology as an attempt to commit any sort of forgery. Be clear about ownership Though in the traditional sense lease is all about exchanging money for a person’s assets for a certain amount of time, what needs to be well-known is who still owns the equipment. When you lease a product you do not get the ownership of the product. This means that until you have completed the leasing deal with them, the lessor is responsible for the continuous maintenance of the asset. You will be responsible for using the product for the purposes that you stated and that you keep it safe, but the continuous maintenance would be the owner’s job. There are some contracts that transfer the responsibility of the maintenance of the equipment to the lessee, as buyout leasing or equipment financing, however, you will need to keep an eye out for those especially if the capability of maintenance of the item may not be within your budget.

Owning or returning the equipment. Since the lease is an agreement that is of a shorter time-span you will have to make the decision of either returning the equipment to the lessor or buying the equipment from them at the end of the lease term.

What You Need to Know About Leasing Equipment Though this is common knowledge, what you may not know is that you will have to make this decision before you sign the lease. This is because there are different kinds of leases, for example, the $1 lease would mean that the actual cost of the entire equipment will be spread across the term of the contract, is like paying for the item in instalments. Depreciation. One thing that you would want to know, but the lessor would not be able to tell you, is the depreciation of the equipment. This will also help you decide whether you wish to own the equipment or return it. It won’t necessarily be easy, but these facts show how incredibly beneficial it is for mothers to finally take that plunge. Let us discuss why. START YOUR OWN BUSINESS

Congratulations. You have finally decided to fulfil your lifelong dream and soon enough you will be on your way to becoming a successful entrepreneur. But first, there are a few things you should keep in mind. The most important step in the process is to have an outline of everything you could possibly need. Start by writing out a plan that includes potential business names, your budget, your vision, and any other key information about your small business. Once you have a plan in place the fun will begin! Remember, these next few steps can be quite tedious so try to make the most out of each step in the process. After endless debates on a business name, pick your favourite one and make sure to apply for an Australian Business Number (ABN). Registering your business name and trade mark will ensure no one will copy your idea. It will also help you look a lot more reliable and trustworthy to future clients. During this process, it is also important you set up social media pages. Whether that be a page on Facebook, a website through WordPress, or a Twitter account, the more activity on social media to promote your company the more likely you are to bring in consumers. The next most important thing is to consider what type of business you are creating. Some businesses need particular licenses to run. If this applies to you, you may want to consider applying for a license as quickly as possible so your journey to entrepreneurship can run a lot smoother. founder of Claudia May Lingerie - Interview This issue, we sat down with Claudia, the founder of Claudia May Lingerie to discuss her business journey, challenges she has faced, potential future plans, and of course what tips she would recommend for those of you who are planning to become entrepreneurs themselves. We loved having a chat with Claudia and we believe through this interview you will find some insightful information to assist you in the development of your own business.

The new social media platform 1. Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself. What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

My name is Claudia and at 19 I founded Claudia May Lingerie, an online luxury lingerie boutique. I decided not to go to university as I wanted to learn about businesses by running one. I watched my Dad run a software business which grew significantly over my teenage years and I knew that one day I wanted to run a business myself. There’s something about seeing other people succeed within their own ventures that makes me excited and I wanted to be a part of that and experience it for myself.

2. Why did you choose the lingerie industry? What have you found to be the most difficult part of competing within the lingerie industry?

There is actually a story around this. When I was 18 I went to a marketing talk in a city called Bristol with my dad. He started asking me questions about what I would set up a business in and I said I didn’t have a clue. He then said, “you must set up a business in something you feel passionately about” and my mum had told me off the night before for buying too much underwear so I jokingly said, “oh underwear” and it went from there. After a lot of research and a short stint working for another lingerie retailer, I ended up setting up the business just over a year later. I decided to go into the luxury market after going to my first trade show when I touched a silk nightdress. The quality was incredible and I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I decided that every woman should own something that beautiful. The lingerie industry is a very competitive market. Claudia May Lingerie is a curated collection of products from luxury brands which means there are other retailers who also sell the same products. Fortunately, being in the luxury market there isn’t a competition on price so Claudia May Lingerie stands out with customer service and a very personalised website and branding.Being an online business it takes a little longer to figure out what works and what doesn’t compare to the lingerie boutiques who can see real time customer feedback. Although the world of analytics is wonderful, you can’t see a customer’s first impression of a product image and that can leave you with guess work about what stock decisions to make in the future.

3. If you could go back in time is there anything you would do differently for the benefit of your business?

I always say that if I did it again I would launch my own line right away to eliminate competition. But I’ve learnt so much through buying and selling other brand’s products and it’s really helping me find a niche in the market. I would also recommend that if you are a small business, build your own website. Be in full control of the part of your business that will drive sales. I outsourced my first website to a development team and I had so many issues which cost the business sales that are incredibly valuable within the first year.

I then rebuilt the website myself on Shopify and it has made such a difference to website traffic and sales and being able to control the main element of the business. I’m not a tech savvy person so if I managed, you can too!

4. Where do you see your business heading in the next five years? What plans do you have in place?

The next five years should see Claudia May Lingerie having a more physical presence with pop up shops. We recently moved to London to see what opportunities would arise from being in the capital so we plan to launch our first pop up shop later this year. This will give us an insight into customers real time feedback. I then want to start the developments for Claudia May Lingerie’s own line. I’m currently debating about whether to start off in nightwear then move into bra and knicker sets. The lingerie market is quite saturated so I want to actually bring out a line of lingerie that has a niche market which could mean inventing a new type of bra.

5. What three tips would you suggest for someone starting out for the first time?

Firstly, never stop learning. You’ll find that you’re constantly learning anyway but always be open to talking to people more intelligent than you and take on board constructive criticism and feedback from others in business and customers. Secondly, always make your customer feel special. Anyone can offer a service or a product but how a customer feels about receiving your service or product will determine how they talk about your business, whether they repurchase or not and how they might even leave a review. Reviews are left for exceptionally good service or anything below satisfied so always be exceptional.And finally, ask for help. If you’re like me and you’re a solo founder and run a business by yourself, you should ask someone if you can rebound ideas off of them. Ask them what steps you think you should take in certain areas. Working alone can make it hard to be productive when you don’t have someone to stimulate your mind 24/7 so surround yourself with people who you can ask things to and attend networking events to find like-minded people.
