Global Safety Conference

For the first time since 2018, we were able to hold our Global Safety Conference in Shanghai this October.

Pre-covid, these conferences were held annually since 2010 and are a great opportunity for our 50+ Safety businesses around the world to network, share best practice and collaborate.

This year, we had over 100 Safety attendees and we were pleased to welcome 10 VIP guests from our PLC Board and Executive Committee. Also attending were the 19

members of our current SLDP programme. This gave us the opportunity to showcase all that Global Supply Chain Solutions and Shanghai could offer.

10/10/10 Project

For the last year, we’ve been working with Safety businesses around the world to benchmark pricing on their existing Asian Bunzl own brand business.

We benchmarked just over US$100M of existing business and, using our preferred suppliers across Asia, we were able to

offer on average a 15% cost reduction opportunity as well as diversifying our supply base right across Asia. Many operating companies have used this information to renegotiate with their existing suppliers. Some Operating companies are also using the opportunity to place first-off orders with the proposed new preferred supplier.

Global Safety Supplier Trade Show

Following our Global Safety Conference, we held a one-day Asian supplier Trade Show with 58 safety product suppliers.

This gave our 100+ Global Safety team visitors, including a number of key purchasing/sourcing employees, an opportunity to meet these key suppliers.

Discussions included benchmarking product pricing, payment terms improvement & new product/range extension. These discussions were with their existing and possibly new Bunzl Own Brand suppliers of gloves, clothing etc.

of China. Most of these suppliers had existing facilities in China, bringing a high level of commercial and technical knowledge to their new expansions in Vietnam, Thailand etc.

Our Global Safety colleagues appreciated being able to meet many suppliers in one location in one day.

Supplier Training in China

During September, we held our latest Supplier Training course for 30 Chinese suppliers.

The Managing Directors and either HR or Quality Manager from each of these suppliers attended.

Speed Dating across Asia

We recently held a Supplier Speed Dating event with Catering Disposable product Asian suppliers.

These events give a large number of Operating companies the opportunity to hear an invited supplier's company overview and understand their product range (including sustainable products) and their capability & suitability.

Each meeting is around 25 minutes long – so it really is a Speed Dating exercise.

Over a 6-hour period, 48 colleagues from Continental Europe, UK & Ireland and Australia met with 12 suppliers from India, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Thailand, covering products such as paper cups, boxes and bags , bagasse containers and wooden cutlery.

These dating exercises really help our Operating companies to understand the potential of some new or just different suppliers. Of course, it also helps to offer opportunities to diversify our supply base further across all of Asia.

Linda Bian

Linda Bian, Operations Clerk for our Shenzhen Operations team, is our latest Employee of the Quarter.

Karina Zhang, Linda’s line manager, says “Linda, a Bunzl North America South China Supply Chain Coordinator, has been working in our Shenzhen Branch for more than 3 years.

She is a very responsible employee who continues to perform above and beyond our expectations.

Her daily support to the China supplier base and the North America supply chain is excellent and a good example for the whole team. This award is well deserved”.
