VISION

VISION

in 1972, salvador dalí was commissioned to create a series of 12 paintings capturing his vision of what menswear might look like in the year 2000. now, 25 years beyond that imagined future, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit these extraordinary works and consider how—if at all—men’s fashion has evolved.

in response, our design team has created a new collection of 12 fabrics, each one inspired by a different dalí painting. drawing on a rich variety of references from the artworks—colours, shapes, motifs, and intricate details—the fabrics reinterpret dalí’s surreal vision through a contemporary lens.

crafted in luxurious cashmere and wool, this is a limited-edition collection launching for autumn/winter 2025.

This painting serves as the centrepiece of the collection, incorporating many elements that reappear throughout the other works. Its accompanying fabric design features a three-colour windowpane check, drawn from the vivid hues of the butterflies. As a subtle detail, the irregular weave echoes the stitching found around the hat, adding another layer of connection between the artwork and the fabric design.

A NETWORK OF SOFT TOGGLES AND CRAVATES

This striking striped design draws inspiration from the way the cravats in the painting are gently interrupted by soft toggles.

Reflecting this, a broken pinstripe in soft blue—lifted from the tie—runs along the length of the fabric, introducing a sense of movement and rhythm. To deepen the connection to the artwork, a second stripe in rich purple mirrors the colour of the collar, creating a bold contrast that is elegantly grounded by the dark grey base.

the stylish footman

Drawing inspiration from the ink illustration of a lion’s head – featured on the shoulder of The Stylish Footman, the designers have developed a microweave fabric featuring a repeating motif derived from the elegant curls of the lion’s mane. This specialist weaving technique not only introduces intricate texture but also imparts a refined sheen, enhancing the depth of the rich dark blue ground. A subtle check pattern woven through the fabric echoes the distinctive red tones of the original painting, creating a harmonious interplay between artwork and textile.

lady godiva

The distinctive design centres on the eye at the heart of Lady Godiva’s cape, as well as its striking outline, both of which are echoed in an asymmetrical herringbone weave. The pattern’s colour mirrors the background of the painting, achieved through a blend of red, orange, and yellow yarns that produce a layered tone rich in warmth and depth. Far from an ordinary widestriped fabric, this piece carries both visual nuance and narrative significance.

the cybernetic gentleman

The design takes its starting point from the placement and shape of the drawers encircling the body of the Cybernetic Gentleman. To echo these forms, an uneven herringbone pattern has been woven into the fabric using a shadow weave technique, which also lends the cloth a rich, lustrous sheen. Colours drawn directly from the painting are used to striking effect, forming soft pinstripes in alternating rows of blue and yellow.

HIGH SCHOOL KIDS

The focus of this design is the black and white stitching that outlines the multiple collars worn by the elegant School Kid in the painting. Set against a muted melange grey ground colour, a white, irregular stitch is woven into one of the fabric’s two stripes, adding a graphic, textural element. Its companion stripe features a structured green weave that echoes the distinctive shape of the four cravats—the focal point of the painting.

the mimetic character

755187

The colours within the pattern reflect those found in both the butterfly and the body of the Mimetic character. The fabric design features a satin weave line that represents the arms and legs of this insect-like figure, while a curved stitch line mirrors the rounded edge that frames the form. Together, these elements introduce a subtle yet expressive detail, creating two distinct depths of stripe across the fabric.

The design team drew inspiration from the intricate details of the shoe, focusing particularly on the spring within the heel. Its distinctive shape is woven into the fabric to create a decorative, non-directional pattern—an unconventional approach in textile design. The colour palette is derived from the hues of the butterfly, lending the cloth a rich and beautiful appearance.

the costume of a chamberlain

The multiple pleats in the Chamberlain’s costume have been carefully replicated in the fabric’s weave, resulting in a highly detailed herringbone design. Additionally, a decorative dotted line mimics the stitching and button detailing found on the outfit, adding further texture and intricacy and replicating the soft pastel pink and blue colours featured in the painting.

This is one of the more intricate designs in the collection. The cross on the Cardinal’s tunic is reinterpreted in a repeating micro-pattern, where four dots form the shape of the cross. A rich brown hue pays homage to the tones found in the butterfly, while a subtle shadow weave traces the butterfly’s outline across the fabric, adding depth and dimension.

The designers kept their focus exclusively to the double brim hat featured in the painting, replicating it in a soft red two-hat motif, scattered randomly across the fabric—in a soft pink that mirrors the colour of the outfit depicted. This pattern is framed by a subtle stitch-like effect, achieved through the use of mouliné yarn woven into the fabric.

The open space within the hat shape is the focal point of this striking shadow weave fabric. One perfect oval and one cropped variation are alternated throughout the design, creating a rhythmic visual pattern across the cloth. The deep blue colour enhances the shadow effect, adding a sense of movement and depth within the ovals.
